July 21, 201312 yr Yelich has been destroying the ball ever since the futures game, where he also crushed the ball. We can't hit a bank robber with a shotgun. I don't understand why this is a debate... We've already debated the other side about why it could go wrong right now. If you can't see someone else's point of view then I don't know what to say. Disagreeing is one thing, but if you disagree then you understand and you've said you don't.

I don't understand why this is a debate... this season is doomed regardless. as fans you want to see more, and yelich could (potentially) bring that. but there isn't a REAL need to call him up until september unless there is an injury.

Many of us thought he was ready in the spring. Injuries have certainly hindered him, but he definitely seems to be hitting his stride now. And what a better time for us? This team needs a pick me up, and it's just so obvious to me it's Yelich considering our holes are lead off an LF/CF. Could things go wrong? Yes. Is it an ideal situation to call him up in? No, not even close. But when is the right time for a last place team? When we SET the ML record for consecutive scoreless innings? Two weeks ago I was making the argument why Ruggiano would be traded to a contender, now that he's in the middle of a 0-for like-25 streak and is barely hitting over .200 that no longer looks to be likely. So before I agreed that he should be playing as trade bait, but now it's clear he's probably no longer going anywhere... It's time to throw up our hands, kind of the way we did when Eovaldi and Alvarez went down and called up Fernandez... And just bring him up.
July 22, 201312 yr Ha, Marisnick just hit a 3 run HR (Yelich just walked before him) as I was reading that. Dunno, I found it funny.

It doesn't matter what this team does if it's not the one we field when we're ready to compete - which it won't be. All this does is get us a better slot in the draft next year. I root for out younger guys to play well and our stopgaps to fail miserably. Now is not the time to call these guys up. And I think Toronto got entirely fleeced in the deal we made with them. It's looking more and more like Marisnick is the prospect people thought he was going to be before last season. I hope he keeps this up.
July 22, 201312 yr Off topic, but I don't know why anybody is surprised we raped the Blue Jays. Red coached I think all of the prospects we got back in that deal, and I am certain he helped hand pick who we got. Perfect example. DeSclafani was supposed to be a throw in... Now look at the season he's having.

July 22, 201312 yr He certainly isn't where he is today by being a useless evaluator of baseball talent...
July 22, 201312 yr Author Perception is sometimes stronger than reality. given History and our ownership, selling off a team for prospects always looks bad. then you look at how the players we got rid of have been doing. Josh Johnson-terrible Mark Buerhle- Terrible Jose Reyes- Injured most of the season Emilio Bonifacio- Terrible Buck- Started hot, now terrible (which everyone knew was going to happen)

You're right, though - looking back at it now, so far it's actually been a win for us. Not a BIG win, just a narrow, throwing error by the shortstop allowed two runs to score victory.
July 22, 201312 yr He certainly isn't where he is today by being a useless evaluator of baseball talent... He was a single-A manager a year ago... That's like saying that Solano is a real major league player just because he's on a major league roster. Loria makes mistakes pretty often. Managing, however, isn't that big of a deal so it's not as costly as, oh say, signing a backup catcher to a 3 year $18 million contract.
July 22, 201312 yr Author yeah. i guess the best way to look at it for me is this: we wouldve been an awful team this year regardless. at least now, we have a slightly brighter future.

July 23, 201312 yr Yelich was just pulled from his game after a single... Clark Spencer seems to think maybe he got the call.
July 23, 201312 yr With our luck he is going back on the DL That could be Marisnick. He got pulled from the same game after being hit by a pitch. EDIT: Now Spencer is back tracking, says they could have been pulled because the field is wet...
July 23, 201312 yr Bring the boy up! This roster is devoid of talent as it us. This front office doesn't need to deprive us any longer!
