Announced this morning, Marlins will now be on 940 AM - The Sports Animal.....

Miami, Fla. – November 6, 2013 – Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Miami announced today a partnership with the Miami Marlins, making 940 WINZ-AM the official English radio broadcast home of the Marlins, beginning with the 2014 season.

940 WINZ-AM, Miami's Sports Animal, will feature full Miami Marlins coverage with live game broadcasts, pre- and post-game analysis as well as daily game recaps with coaches and players. In addition, The Hot Stove Report, a half hour long show covering Marlins and Major League Baseball news will air each weekend during the off-season. 940 WINZ-AM is also the radio broadcast home of the Miami Dolphins, Florida Gators football and basketball and carries NFL games throughout the season.

"The Miami Marlins are extremely pleased to enter this new partnership with Clear Channel," said Marlins President David Samson. "Our fans throughout South Florida will benefit from Clear Channel's expansive network of stations. The Marlins new long-term home on 940 WINZ will give our fans the ability to follow the Marlins throughout the year."

"Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Miami is thrilled to partner with the Miami Marlins and provide comprehensive game coverage for our listeners," said Lonny Anger, Market President, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Miami. "As two-time World Series Champions, they have proven they have what it takes to succeed, and we look forward to serving their loyal fan base."

Looking at the deal, the biggest negative is the loss of the 104.3 FM and the perch on the most listened to sports station in town.

On the plus side, Clear Channel has plenty of marketing pull and this deal should help the Marlins in that department. The 940 signal is pretty good (definitely comparable to 790) and I'm hoping this deal will enable growth of the Marlins network outside of Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties. Marlins didn't have their games aired in Palm Beach or Southwest Florida for the first time in many years.

We will see how 940 handles conflicts with the Dolphins and Gators.

Overall, not a bad deal that should get the games to as many fans as possible. The loss of the FM signal kinda sucks, but 940 is improving the local programming. This deal is similar to the one the Mets signed with Clear Channel's WOR and the Rays also have a deal with CC.

Time passes, some things don't change. :baseball

I've been kinda busy over the last decade.I kinda took a half decade or so off the boards, established my career, worked my ass off. Got back on regularly about two years ago. Good to see an old familiar name, you should come around more often.
