December 6, 200322 yr I'm hearing all sorts of different things as to exactly what happened during the conference call. It seems it went from Pudge demanding a raise over the 5 seasons (ESPN.com), to saying he just wants $10 mil a year for 4 years (The Herald) to saying he'd be willing to defer and backload a contract so we make the $60 million payroll (Beradino). Does anyone else find it kind of odd that reports are all over the place like this? Another thing is that it seems negotiations are still going on, at least according to one paper. Confusing, confusing stuff... :confused
December 6, 200322 yr I know exactly how you feel. The media likes to confuse us all. The only people who know exactly what went on in that conference were the people involved in that conference call.
December 6, 200322 yr Just tells me that negotiations are on-going. Options are being thrown out by both sides. That's a good sign. Now whether they can move close enough to finalize a deal by tomorrow....who knows? But it behooves both sides to keep working, and I expect that is what is happening. We'll see, and hopefully get another status report today.
December 6, 200322 yr I really hope Fudge doesnt sign. I could care less, to tell you the truth and I am not angry about him not signing. I just think it would actually be better for us to start Castro and use Fudge's money to strengthen the bullpen. THat is what will determine who wins the NL East.

I agree, but to make things even more confusing i heard on the radio that if the Marlins cant get a deal done with Pudge they will try and sign Mr. Javy Lopez
December 6, 200322 yr Yea, but it's unlikely they will because Javy is serious about going to Baltimore. Baltimore wants the guy bad too. I would love to have Javy, but at least for now, it's not going to happen.

December 7, 200322 yr Lots of things are said by lots of people throughout a conference call like this one. Everything being said probably is true, or true enough, for publication. Pudge probably said he wanted 5/$50 and at the same time said he'd take four years and defer some as has been reported. They're negotiating.
