June 21, 201412 yr Can't stop watching the replay. What an arm. I know I have watched it about 100 times already, each time I am more amazed...talk about a perfect throw! Usain Bolt would have had a hard time scoring with that throw. I always knew Ozuna had a rifle for an arm but the accuracy is beyond belief. That throw should be shown on every training video from this moment forward. The technique was textbook and flawless.
June 21, 201412 yr Not sure how Ozuna has the time to adjust his grip on the ball in the split-second before he releases it but okay. Yeah, I agree that it's amazing and slightly incredible. But, if you're a pro ball player and all you do is handle baseballs all day long, year in and year out, it doesn't take more than a split-second to get the grip you want across whatever seams you want. A skill that can be worth some serious money as an OFer. Nothing like an incentive to get someone to be good at it.

Actually, much more so for an infielder, who has to get the ball to the respective base much faster than said outfielder has to get the ball in. Remember, during the time where an outfielder is going through his crow hop to leverage his body with the throw, he can adjust his grip. An infielder, however, only has the extremely small time between his transition, much more difficult...

June 22, 201412 yr Author Anyways, ... is correct - I obviously never made the professional ranks, but when I played, I always found myself subconsciously changing the ball to a four seam grip immediately when I went to grab it. Just force of habit after a while.
June 22, 201412 yr ... and a much shorter throw. This whole post negated by a sentence fragment. That part is irrelevant. The distance of the throw has zero to do with the amount of time to adjust grip. You either have the arm strength to throw said distance or you don't. You could take an hour to adjust the ball in your hand, if you can't make the throw, it doesn't matter.

Just force of habit after a while. That's exactly correct. And the grip really just happens naturally.
June 23, 201412 yr I believed they covered this in the Sandlot. See Scotty Small's first throw. lolololololol
