We play in the NL.

While Loria is cheap- what cheap person wants to invest in something that isn't going to last long?

It's a fair point, but it's not as if Cabrera has been forced into the DH role since the trade. He's played third or first every year since he was traded.

This.

Dude was super durable, even when he was fat, and since the trade to Detroit he's basically never been a DH. It was a stupid, cheap trade then and it's even worse now. It had nothing to do with weight, no matter how much they tried to make that the concern. In fact, the Tigers were able to sign him to an insanely low extension with the "weight problem" as leverage. The Marlins could have easily afforded that extension. Stupid.

Safe to say Detroit and their expectations forced him to stay in somewhat shape?

Didn't he balloon to 60lbs or more overweight here in /006 or 07?

I don't think Miggy gives any fucks about Detroit expectations. Zero fucks given.

I think the weight gain may have had a lot to do with genetics. That's about the age where you keep eating whatever you want and you keep the same work out routine, but your metabolism catches up with you.

For instance, he was probably 6'3, 190LB in 2003 at 20. He was probably 250LB when he left at 24.

I know, speaking from personal experience, at age 20 I was about 6'1, 180LB. With the same diet, and lack of exercise, I went as high as 240LB by the time I turned 24.

It catches up to you quickly, then you have to do something about it to lose and then maintain. I have since gotten down to 215LB and maintained, but I'll never be 180LB again I'm sure, no matter what I do. Miggy will always be a big guy...

Found these two by the way----

From his time in Miami

From Detroit-

Does that change the fact that being fat has had absolutely zero affect on his performance?

We are arguing the merits of offering a phat contract to a fat player...

Don't change the conversation wild turd.

And clearly the extension the Tigers gave him that the Marlins wouldn't was one of the best, most team friendly deals in recent memory.

So, I say weight = who cares if you're awesome?

What's the excuse going to be when we do the same thing with Stanton?

Is he too strong?

His face wasn't strong enough.
