What about Tim Worrell as a closer?

Featured Replies

He wasn't offered arbitration by San Francisco. He seemed to do pretty good this year when Nen went down. I don't know what his asking price might be, but do you think he'd be worth a look?

At this point, whoever fits into our price range. I'd have no problem with him, or how about Armando Benitez? Neither are spectacular but if we were going to spend big on a closer, we should have just kept Urbina...

Benitez?! Didn't you see how we and just about the whole league 0wned him last year? He's getting old and isn't reliable. He has a bad rep too. Especially when he dissed JP, fool.

He's overrated.

38 saves with a 2.84 ERA giving up only 5 homeruns in 76 games is overrated? If you ask me, I think he may be a bit underrated.

Tim Worrell is 36. I dont think you can realistically expect him to pitch more than 2 more seasons, tops. So 2 years @ $5M could get it done. He made $2M last season. Solid pitcher, could be a closer or set up. Either way, you are going to get some solid value for the guy.

Benitez for '04.

I'm telling you guys, listen to me for once (I was right about Lowell, Castillo, and Fudge)!

Benitez will have barely any pressure here, and he would love the spacious field of the Pro.

Not to mention he's latin...

ur crazy

You were right about Castillo, Lowell, and Fudge? What are you talking about?

And by the way, who do you think came up with this 'Fudge' idea - so you arent the only one who was right about him, if you mean leaving via FA. In fact, I would say a lot of us figured he wouldnt be back.

Now, Benitez - no thanks. I too think this guy could turn it around. He has a live fastball and was once a dominant closer - when it didnt matter. He melts under pressure. Could he be more successful with us? Sure. He also could be affordable. But I think there are better targets out there at this point. That said, Benitez is not as much of a stretch as you would like to think.

I was virtually the lone person who believe the FO would not trade Lowell during June.

I was also the virtual loner in believing that Castillo was a top-priority over Fudge, and saying that he was more valuable to our lineup than one Ivan Rodriguez.

Umm...no. I know we werent trading Lowell in season. I think very few actually thought that was happening too - they may have been hoping it wouldnt happen, but no one that I have seen actually called out that Lowell was going to be dealt.

Uh, the paper mentioned Castillo as a top priority. So if even the Herald knew that, what makes you so special for noticing the obvious? Again, everyone here knew that Castillo was a priority - I myself wasnt thrilled about it. I think Castillo may be a slight risk, but even I knew that the Marlins were trying to re-sign him and he was a priority.

And Fudge? Why do you think he signed that deal with us with a no arbitration clause in it? Anyone who didnt see Fudge leaving was just being blind. Again, obvious.

Since you want cred for the obvious, I will start calling you Captain Obvious. Hey Admin, could you make that a filter too? Wild Card = Captain Obvious...
