May 24, 201511 yr Well I think the Ozuna has to go part is not so much becuase he sucks, but he would have to be in a package for Hamels. The price for Hamels is well known. One arm thats ready or close to it. One outfielder thats the same. At least one top prospect. The only players that fit the bill is Ozuna (yelich cant be traded, and stanton cant either for various reasons in both cases) and Nicolino (I guess). And the Ryan Howard part....ummm ya. He is having his best month in what 3 years? I'd rather pass if I were a Marlin fan, Marlin front office member, et al (thankfully I'm not any of these). OOHHHH, I understood it as he is terrible and doesn't belong on the team kind of "Has to go". I see now that the comment was that he needed to be included in any deal if it were to go down. Got it lol
May 24, 201511 yr Author I could be wrong about this. Clearly the consensus thinks I am. I'll go back to watching us score 0 runs
May 24, 201511 yr Author Come on man, that's not true. No one bashes the new people, we're all just knowledgeable dudes who expect others to post rational things and or back up seemingly irrational posts with statistics and strong reasoning. I rarely ever post but have been on the board since right when we signed pudge in 03' and signed up in 05' during the Delgado sweepstakes and no one has ever made me feel unwelcome. Then again, I always try my best to not say some outlandish bullshit, or delve into something that I KNOW will cause an uproar (Basically anything about Derek Dietrich or not knowing that the stadium money came from the bed tax lol). I just say it so you don't ever feel targeted on here, and continue to post for a long time. God knows we need to keep it active so one day our kids will be on here fighting with Penguino and Erick lol. With that said, what do you see in Ozuna that makes you think he has to go? I happen to think he is only progressing. He is a high power, high strikeout player. That is who he is, and that is a great weapon to have IMO. Sadly, our team has been put together in a way where almost everyone is essentially a low OBP player, but that's not his fault. He, and mot of our guys this year, seem to be shouldering a lot of the pressure and abandoning their usual approach which is why everyone seems to be in a slump me thinks. In regard to Howard, dude, no way haha. He is terrible bro, and whatever he has accomplished this year is most certainly buoyed by where he plays. Also, as much as I love Ichiro, no way we can handle that huge drop in power from Ozuna to Ichiro. Ozuna's attitude & let's be honest. We all feel better when Ichoro comes to bat.....at least we're going to get an at bat. But like I said. I could be wrong
May 24, 201511 yr Author The answer is we don't have the trade pieces. Kolek is a fine starter, but he can't be a headliner since he's only 19 with limited experience in the minors. Nicolino isn't a top 100 prospect anymore, and Ozuna or Yelich would definitely need to be in it also. Hamels is a sub 3 ERA guy in a huge hitters park. The value you can get from a guy like that from a team with a stacked minor league system is tremendous. Our minor league system is pretty garbage. We really don't have the pieces to go after middle tier trade deadline guys. We're very very VERY far away from having the value to get Hamels (or the financial means to pay him long term). I won't call it a stupid question, but it is one where the answer is very obvious. The team went all in this offseason and gutted some of the important young pieces existing in our minor league system to compete now. The experiment has thus far failed. There really isn't much the team can do moving forward other than watch and see if this team can turn around while looking to trade players who aren't signed with the team through 2019. Agree with everything. It might've been a stupid question. I still think they trade Ozuna

The Phillies will certainly try to include Howard in any deal for Hamels if only to shed the contract
May 24, 201511 yr Why rent Howard for less than one season when Bour is showing he might at least have a shot at being a 'decent enough' everyday player? Our rotation is fine. It's just that 80% of it is on the DL.
May 24, 201511 yr Author Rotation is definitely not fine, regardless if they're on the DL or not. Even when they have pitched Haren is the only one that's done anything. And I doubt Bour is ever anything but a nice bench guy. But like I said, I could be way off....it's really moot tho, like someone said Hamels isn't coming here anyway
May 24, 201511 yr The rotation is hurt but trying to trade for Hamels and Howard doesn't make sense. We would match up better with other teams. First thing is we gotta get closer to .500
May 25, 201511 yr this is why i didn't vote for you Mitt! Maybe if we were right up there near the top of the league and Hamels would put us over the top it would be worth going all in on something like this (like we did when we needed a lights out closer and sent Adrian for Urbina who helped propel us to the title) but as a few folks have pointed out, we're at the bottom of the league and while Hamels would be our #1 pitcher, he doesn't solve any of our offensive problems and neither would Howard. Hell, if everyone just played to their career norms our offensive problems would seemingly right themselves. at this point i'm almost worried that yelich is going to turn into coghlan 2.0 with his bat. Unfortunately, what Loria is going to take away from all of this is "everyone i gave a contract to this offseason has regressed...hmmm. guess i shouldn't sign anyone ever again! now i can finally get that Bob Ross painting!" We've had an issue for awhile too with having a a lot of low obp% guys as it seems the front office doesn't even "delve" into stats that deeply. Offense always seems to be hit or miss. we score 0-2 runs or we score 7-8 runs. and honestly, i don't care what kind of power numbers stanton puts up if he's hitting .220. you need more out of your big gun than a .220 batting average. he's better than that and it's pretty clear he's regressed in his pitch recognition this year. hell, if he were batting even a "robust" .260 this team would probably have at least a couple more wins. i have grown so tired of watching him string together several games of 2-3 k's per game. i had thought last year was the year he finally turned the corner but now i think he's just swinging harder in hopes the ball will go even further when he does actually make contact once a game (or less). and for god's sake, take that metal dong off the side of your helmet!
