Marlins after free-agent closer Benitez

And if Chris HAMMONDS :D is so good, why are you trying to move him? (and by you, I dont necessarily mean YOU). I think we here are pretty familiar with him though, and I wouldnt mind seeing him in our bullpen.

Watch the foul language, I didn't call you any protruding organ. As Schwarzenegger would put it, "I'm smart, unlike someone we know."

Cashman is an idiot and wants to make room for gabe white. sigh.

$1.5 is probably going to be his price, and I wouldn't mind giving him that over 2 years.

The reward outweighs the risk.

Definitely, I would do that deal in a second.

Guys, I'm Hammond's mom, I'm a little protective. Yankee fans give me crap for this too.

Gabe White? Cant the Yankees buy someone better? Geez...

I dont think Cashman is bad, really. Got Vazquez, and looks to get Colon. Of course, he has the resources to do whatever he wants, but the Yanks are a damn good franchise - look at their farm system. Cashman is responsible for that too.

As for Wild Card, to respond, not everyone has consistency - and there are players who have just as good a curve as Tejera. And there are those, like Tejera, cant get it over consistently. So until they do...

Colon is signed by the Angels, and we have Brown now.

However...

Boone trade was horrible.

Weaver trade was horrible.

Roger Clemens trade was horrible.

Denny Neagle trade was Horrible.

Mike Lowell trade was horrible.

it goes on and on

We got Sierra for Marcus Thames...wow, a good one in 6 years...

Benitez is another Looper but better.

But Still Benitez would be a good addition. I think looper wont close no more, the marlins are going after so many closers. I think Benitez will close and Fox Set up.

Thank you Beinfest for finally looking deep into our Pen!

nice thought, but as Juanky said we would need alot of his salary paid for meaning we would have to give up some stellar prospects......

Troy Percival RHP ANA Signed Feb 2002 - 2 years/$16M

2003: $7.5M (+$1.0M signing bonus)

2004: $7.5M

-No-trade clause to four teams NYY, NYM, TOR and MON

No trade clause to the Yankees? That's odd....unless he knows if he gets traded, he won't be the closer.

The Mets are there as well.

I'm pretty sure that has more to do with the city as a whole than the Yanks specifically.

Tejera's curveball is definitly sick that thing can bite the dust and make the hitter swing looking for it. But that only happends once a blue moon so I expect Rosenthal to do some major work with him over the winter into spring training.

One suggestion to Tejera: pitch from the first base side of the mound. Any amount of movement on the curve would confuse the batter more than the long look they get when he throws from the third base side.

P.S. I like the Benitez deal at somewhere between $2-3 million.

Anything more than $2 Million and I say screw Benitez.

Anything at or below it, and I welcome him with open arms.

That is better...but I doubt Benitez is going to settle for $2M under. If we want him, we may have to bite the bullet...you know the Red Sox are going to screw it all up by overpricing Foulke and jilting the rest of the pay scale. Looks like they are learning from the Yankees after all...

What was the story I read today? 3 years, $24 million for Foulke? Either in the Sun-Sentinel or Palm Beach Post...

Either in the Sun-Sentinel or Palm Beach Post... yeah, i read that too...and people wonder why the Yankees (ahem, Sorianofan...) have done more damage to baseball than good. Here is a perfect example, only the Red Sux are being copycats...

Benitez is not worth anything more than the league minimum. If you really think where he pitches will make him less nervous, then you're crazier than he is. He's pitched in Baltimore, NY(M),NY(Y), and Seattle. If you can't handle the pressure of Seattle, well then he's pretty much good for pitching against teams like Milwaukee, Montreal or Tampa Bay. Save the money and give it to Javy/Vlad/God/A-rod/whoever!

He was awesome in his time in Baltimore as well.

man if hs price range is between 1 and 1.5 mil..... i want em i want em locked up for 3-4 years!!!!!!!

I doubt his Value has Decreased that much thou

Looks like it's 3.

Meanwhile, the Marlins were preparing an offer for free-agent closer Armando Benitez. The offer could be for one year in the $3 million range.

- Berardino

- Berardino That seems about right.

I think 3 mil is a lil much, but whatever.

The Montreal Gazette and an MLB Radio interview with an Expos guy (same guy who said he thought Vlad would end up with us) said that the Expos are also after Benitez. He said that Benitez is excited about the possibility of pitching for the Expos and their diverse club as well as his relations with Frank Robinson.

So we'll have to wait and see who comes out as the frontrunner.

Like I said before anything over 1.5 is a waste on Benitez.

He's been pitching at The MLB level for 10 years, he has showed clear signs of decline and is not worth any serious money when the next Chad Fox could be anywhere for a Minor League Contract.

I have always thought that a good relief pitcher can be found anywhere at a cheap price and if you sign those guys to ML deals, then that's a no risk opportunity. Not giving Benitez a million or so.

Good point - I agree :thumbup

Does that go for Looper as well?

I'm starting to think Yes.

I really like Looper but you can buy a couple possible good relief pitchers for 3 mil but of course if The Fish did go into the season with no clear cut closer(Looper, Benitez e.g.) the media would bash them most likely.
