Offensive potential

Featured Replies

So this offense has looked pretty good so far this season, but there is a chance that is still hasn't come close to reaching its full potential. Check out these stats:

BA: .276 (4th)

OBP: .335 (7th)

SLG: .425 (9th)

OPS: .759 (8th)

Runs: 135 (21st)

Weird, right? Well, the reason for the lack of runs has a lot to do with our numbers with RISP:

BA: .255 (16th)

OBP: .331 (18th)

SLG: .340 (27th)

OPS: .672 (23rd)

So, what do you guys think? Do you think the numbers with RISP will eventually catch up to the overall performance? Because, judging by the overall numbers, there is very little reason why this team shouldn't be scoring more runs. Yes, I know we don't have much power outside of Stanton, but they still rank ninth in SLG and eighth in OPS, so we should be scoring more runs than this, no?

Honestly didn't specifically read the numbers but yes we have more potential because if you watch the games you'll have seen so many times where games could basically become blowouts and we've let the opponents off the hook. So yes, this offense could be even better.

And this falls right in line with the numbers with RISP. This team has been stranding runners left and right this season. At some point, you have to think it will start to balance out.

I don't believe hitting with RISP is a skill so yes we should see an improvement.

Eh, while it isn't a "skill" per se, there is something to be said for coming through in high-leverage situations. Not only is there a mental aspect to it, but your approach as a hitter also has to be a bit different.

Case in point last night - bases loaded nobody out and we get nada.

under pressure in any sport is a major skill. Some guys are better at it than others. Tie game bottom of the ninth bases loaded l, it's absurd to say that the hitter and pitcher both aren't facing nerves, pressure, adrenaline etc. whether it's MLB or nba every player is different in that scenario.
