August 1, 201610 yr http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/07/cubs-to-acquire-dan-haren.html I'd like to remind you of a recent trade. Last year, an NL wild card team, desperate for starting pitching, gave up a very modest return for a rental of Dan Haren. Haren had a significantly better start to the 2015 season than Cashner's start to the 2016 season, and the Cubs did not have to give up their #2 prospect and a stud (if injured) RP. What am I missing here?

What am I missing here? To be fair, it was a very strong sellers market this year especially for pitchers. Guys that pitch only one inning were being traded for 3 or 4 prospects. That plus the lack of quality prospects is why we struggled so much to make a trade and had to seemingly over pay for Cashner and Rodney. At least they added. Cashner and Rodney are both quality arms that have had big league success in the past.

What am I missing here? It's THEIR #2 prospect and not the #2 prospect. And the stud is only a stud when it is proven. TJ works 80% of the time which means 20% of the time it DOESN'T.
August 1, 201610 yr The Cubs have acquired righty Dan Haren from the Marlins for shortstop Elliot Soto and righty Ivan Pineyro plus Marlins paid $500K. This is the trade you quoted above so I looked it up. Dan Haren no longer in baseball. Pineyro has been released this year. Soto has an .241 career average as a short stop. We are keeping him in the farm season because he is so good?
