December 15, 200322 yr If Williamson is eligible for arbitration and the Sox don't want him, why even make a deal? I say we tender all of our starting pitchers and see where things lay in 5 days. Or just trade Redman to the Rangers for Snare. Or dangle Pavano to a couple clubs (Cards?). No point in helping the Red Sox get A-Rod and send Nomar to the Phillies or Dodgers. Pavano shall not be dangled. Pavano shall remain here.
December 15, 200322 yr We could get a lot for Pavano right now. A most impressive performance in the playoffs.
December 15, 200322 yr We could get a lot for Pavano right now. A most impressive performance in the playoffs. Exactly - we will be losing a lot ourselves! I want Vlad as much as anyone, but not at the expense of the remainder of the team. We've all been ready to part with Redman -- rumors about that have been going around since August or so. Any other regular player would be crossing the line, I think.
December 15, 200322 yr The remainder of the team?? Pavs is arguably the 5th or 6th starter. He is also arguably the 3rd starter.
December 16, 200322 yr The remainder of the team?? Pavs is arguably the 5th or 6th starter. He is also arguably the 3rd starter. Um... paradox? contradiction? oxymoron? anyone? If he is arguably the third starter, as you said, why would you want to part with him?!
December 16, 200322 yr I'm not going to sit here and say why Pavano should stay, so I'll just give one reason almost anyone can relate to. If Pavano stays, Alyssa Milano will be going to games.

Sorry about that.

Any other regular player would be crossing the line, I think. That's just it. We'd made it so public that we weren't going to offer Enc arbitration that we got a non-prospect for him. If we're goign to trade someone trade someone with a bit of value. Pavano has a lot. Redman has little because half the Marlisn articles suggest he'll be cut. Who's going to give his a decent prospect or bullpen help for someone they could get for free?
December 16, 200322 yr McKeon likes Williamson alot from his Reds days. He knows what he can do as a starter as well as in the ben. I think he'd be a great 5th starter for us while AJ comes back, then we can use him in the pen. I think he respects McKeon enough as McKeon respects him he will have no problem with that. I think forget about Benitiez unless we don't get Vlad, and i think we have a small chance of resigning Looper for less than arbitration. If not he's gone. Oh well.
December 16, 200322 yr Williamson, who saved 21 games in half a season for Cincinnati last season, is a favorite of manager Jack McKeon, who had the pitcher when he led the Reds. Williamson, who was traded to Boston in July, is the odd man out in a Red Sox bullpen that includes Mike Timlin, Alam Embree and recently acquired closer Keith Foulke, and the team is interested in trading Williamson....The Red Sox reportedly have asked the Marlins for left-hander Mark Redman, a 14-game winner last season who also has drawn trade feelers from Oakland. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...all/7501701.htm
December 16, 200322 yr For a sit which is as sophisticated as this one with so many good posters, I'm surprised Benite gets as much support as he's getting. He is way overpriced for a team that is counting its money carefully. Trade Pavano? Interesting thought. I love the guy-followed him since my buddy raved about him in Trenton and predicted great things for him. I think he's finally reached that level of excellence so many felt he had after his performance in the Series and playoffs, but you never know given his past (injuries, inconsistency, etc) Maybe he has great trade value now. On the other hand, he's still relatively cheap , so it wouldn't make sense to trade him :hat

December 16, 200322 yr I like the idea of trading Redman to the A's for a reliever and either switch-hitting catcher Mike Rose or lefty CA/IF/OF Jason Grabowski. Williamson will eventually become a free agent and there's no reason to trade for him.
December 16, 200322 yr Voted for "both" but if I had to make a choice... Williamson. He has the gritty, tenacious, consistent, character a Closer needs. Much more mature than Benitez.
December 16, 200322 yr Carl should NOT be traded. Red is a different story... and the reason why we arent trashing Benitez (these days) is because he is better than Looper :lol

December 16, 200322 yr Keep Redman, buy Williamson, and wait until Spring Training to see what we have. We have good arms and new arms coming to ST.

December 16, 200322 yr Author Pavano a number 6 starter is crazy. Most teams don't even use a number 6 starter and it would NOT be Pavano. If he was with a team that was so stacked that he couldn't start, he would come out the bullpen without question. Pavano has been up and down in his first years in the MLB but he, Beckett, and Penny all matured and I'm pretty sure we can get a lot for any of them. (Not that I want to trade any) I'd take that Redman for Williamson offer because we'd get another starter if AJ isn't ready.
