Well, we could always try for Palmeiro AND have some left over for the pen. The Yanks are basically giving away Chris Hammonds according to our resident Yankee fan and Rotoworld, and there are other teams that will trade their relievers. Lets see what happens.

I think, if they really can't pull the rabbit out of the hat right now, that this was a bad call by the F.O. in just negotiating with Vlad for the OF spot and no one else. I mean, they pretty much sat pat the whole weekend without actually doing much, were they talking to Vlad the whole weekend? Hopefully they can make one last run at him, Hail Marys work sometimes (and especially if a little guy is involved, cue David Samson). But if the Hail Mary doesn't work, then it is going to be tough because alot of the more valuable OF guys have been gobbled up.

OK two things:

 

1. It's like a funeral around here, supposedly our "insider info" has now put us at 90/10, but really it only means were still underdogs and we always have been. Guerrero has said he doesn't want to sign with Baltimore, and nothing has changed in the past 24 hours to make me think otherwise. A good agent looking at market conditions now would actually have to consider a 2-3 year offer, hoping for an economic boom and hitting the open market when salaries escalate to 2001 type-proportions. It's bound to happen eventually, that's why you don't see long term deals from teams, or players demanding long term deals; the market is too uncertain right now.

 

2. I don't think we were ever really after an additional outfielder, because if we were, I'd rather have kept Encarnacion; we knew what he was capable of (a poor man's Guerrero, "power", speed, good arm...). That said, I think Choi will not be our starting first baseman next year, it will be Conine. I think that we'll see who gets non-tendered, or we'll give Abraham Nunez a chance.

We, and all the other teams, will know more after the 20th. I've read that there could be quite a few players non-tendered.

Yeah, I'm actually in the same boat on this one. I'm not attacking him, but who exactly does he "know."

Well, I admitted at the very beginning of the thread that I don't think its over, and that there is always a chance. But, I can't be 100% optomistic all the time and not see the writing on the wall. Now, does that mean I expect Vlad to be an Oriole tomorrow? No. Does that mean I no longer see Vlad in teal and black? No. I still do, and still do stronger than the Orange and Black. Just the the Orange is creeping up on the Teal is all, this might have been a temporary setback.

He's been wrong before, but IMO since I've been here he's the most reliable insider source there is on this board.

 

He didnt say it was all over he put a "?" but it seems as though Vlad will be in an O's uni. next season, although theres been a lot of surprising turns of events this offseason and I wont be surprised if it happens again.
