March 25, 20197 yr Author They must've really disliked his Opening Day ticket offer on IG. He has since deleted this post on IG, all but confirming Mish's report. In all seriousness, I don't get it. Odd move unless there's something going on we don't know about.

March 25, 20197 yr Author What post? He had a post up yesterday saying to reply and tag 2 followers on IG to possibly win tickets to Opening Day. I was kidding that they were mad about it.
March 25, 20197 yr Author What this does mean is that the decision was made sometime late yesterday or early today. Hours after they supposedly told the players their status. So he expected to be on the team following that meeting and now isn't.
March 25, 20197 yr Oh. Well I can only assume that they tried to trade him but couldn't but still didnt have to release him... I think u need a guy like him to eat innings at the least.. our young starters are good but u can't always count only on them for a whole season. Eventually they struggle or get hurt, u need guys like Straily to manage the workload.
March 25, 20197 yr Author Mish has now used the word "released" wrong twice in the past few days. He needs to stop mixing the words up. Issuing a correction afterwards makes him look sloppy.
March 25, 20197 yr Oh it's a DFA? damn Mish you jumped the gun. A DFA and an outright release have very different connotations. Changes it a little bit. Still surprised they would risk losing him but at least now they have a chance for a trade or for him to accept a minor league assignment, which I doubt he would actually.

March 25, 20197 yr Author They've been trying to trade him and have gotten nowhere, now with their backs to the wall it is unlikely that changes. Why would a team take on the salary when he can be had for veteran minimum after release?

Why would a team take on the salary when he can be had for veteran minimum after release? Yea true. If there was a trade to be had it would have been done, this is not the kind of guy that you really can trade after a DFA. So they want him out to give the young guys rotation is the bottom line. Very surprising considering we're not contending yet and there's concern about innings and workload and inexperience even with all the talent coming through.
March 25, 20197 yr Author I guess it is possible they just leave a 40-man spot available rather than add someone to it. From all the roster leaks so far, there doesn't seem to be a need for that spot.
March 25, 20197 yr Author Why tendered him before? Just wasting money. An odd thing for a so-called cheap team to do.

March 25, 20197 yr Author Actually I was surprised Straily was not non-tendered last year. A cheap team that is only focused on money and nothing else, would have non-tendered him.

What a silly thing to do at this point of the season. Anyways I said the other day they usually do some surprising move pre opening day and I thought it would be optioning down Alcantara but this is it.
