March 25, 20197 yr I understand why people are upset by the move but it doesn’t make sense. They want the young guys to log innings. As for depth they have guys in the minors they can bring up as well. I’m not saying it’s a good move, but I can see where their head is at. But while saying they want the young guys to get innings and experience they're also saying they need to monitor their innings and don't want to rush the guys in the minors right? So Straily had that role locked down. He should have been kept at least for the first half of the season.
March 25, 20197 yr More than good. Remember when he said he was glad Stanton and Yelich were gone because if they didn't wanna be here it was better with them gone? Maybe you're on to something. Could it be that the rotation was set and Straily was on his way to a bullpen role, which then made him "not want to be here", to which he took his own advice and requested this? Not saying I think that happened....just tossing out ideas.

March 25, 20197 yr How we got absolutely nothing for Witgren, Merandy Gonzalez and Straily is criminal mismanagement. I get that these guys didn’t have a future with the team but you just don’t give up players with value. You extract everything you could from them.
March 25, 20197 yr This is a pretty stupid move. Especially when they are talking about the need to limit innings. Chen has become an actual curse. They couldn't find a single acceptable trade? For a solid #4 guy on a $5 million salary? And to think we gave up Luis Castillo for him.
March 25, 20197 yr Mike Hill's words on this just make it sound like they thought they were gonna need him (which is why he was tendered) but with the young guys exceeding expectations in spring training they just decided Straily wasn't needed anymore so they're moving forward with the future. I disagree with doing this now but for those wondering that's the logic they're going with.

March 25, 20197 yr Author They saved 3.8 million. That’s why they did it. Again though they could've just non tendered him if they wanted to save money. It ended up costing them 1.2 million instead of the option of being cheap and getting him gone free.
