December 20, 200322 yr from Rotoworld: LATEST NEWS - December 20 - Previous News Athletics non-tendered LHP Mark Redman. Redman was worth at least $3 million last season, but the A's didn't want to pay him that kind of money for 2004. Some team will probably give him $6 million over two years. http://www.rotoworld.com/display1.asp?spor...yers&x=6285&y=0
December 20, 200322 yr Beinfest officially is a pimp. There is no question of it now. No, he is currently at "playa" status. He moves up to "pimp" when he actually re-signs Mark.
December 20, 200322 yr other Non Tenderres: Orioles non-tendered RHP Jason Johnson. Johnson could have earned close to $4 million in arbitration, so the Orioles made the right move here. However, Johnson will be a popular free agent. He should become one of the Rangers' top targets and the Giants could use him as their fourth starter. Orioles non-tendered LHP Damian Moss. There should be several small-market teams interested in taking a chance on Moss. Our guess is that he'll land in Milwaukee. /rotoworld
December 20, 200322 yr Beinfest officially is a pimp. There is no question of it now. No, he is currently at "playa" status. He moves up to "pimp" when he actually re-signs Mark. And when he signs Vlad he'll just be immortal.
December 20, 200322 yr Author the best part would be, we could use the A's own money to sign him if we take the option for cash instead of PTBNL....hahahaha, that would be awesome.
December 20, 200322 yr Author is it our choice? interesting...i suppose i assumed it was, but you're correct, it could be theirs.
December 20, 200322 yr No. If Redman was Non Tendered, The A's would send Cash.. If signed we would get a prospect.
December 20, 200322 yr Author i can't believe the A's didn't offer him arbitration. what's the most he could have gotten? 3.5 mill?
December 20, 200322 yr i'd say 500k. Oddly enough, I'd be extreamely happy with $500K. Admin Beinfest would be a geniusif he pulled this off: He gets a young, talented, and cheap reliever, as well as mark Redman for $2.5 Million instead of the estimated $3 Million (he signs for $3 mill, but because of the money, it's actually less).
December 20, 200322 yr We could get anywhere between 300,000-500,000. I'm sure they agreed upon the total before the actual non-tender deadline.
December 20, 200322 yr I dunno if this would be legal...but what if Beinfest sat down with Redman and said that if he accepted a trade to Oakland and was then nontendered, he could sign with the Marlins for more than he would get in arby? I am not paranoid, it just makes sense to me that this could have happened.
December 20, 200322 yr I wonder how much cash. Not much I'd think. If I were forced to take an educated guess it would be somewhere between half to all of Neu's salary ($150,00-$300,000). Just a guess... :mischief2
