I think when you over slide a base, it should still count as a steal. For instance, if you try to turn a double into a triple and get thrown out you still get a double.

I've never seen an umpire ask for help so many times without the catcher requesting it.

It's a shift of responsibility, imo.  Doesn't want to be on the hook for a controversial call.
