February 7, 20242 yr This is historic. Big news. Keep in mind that Warner Bros-Discovery owns TNT and TBS. Don’t have any details yet on cost or release date. But man. This is pretty insane. I was just thinking the other day that probably one day a lot of the streaming services from different companies (Netflix, Max, Hulu etc) will eventually be combined in one master streaming service. But it looks like they are doing something like that with sports streaming. Post more details people when you have them! Edited February 7, 20242 yr by SirFishFan
February 7, 20242 yr Author Of course this won’t affect local home team games like the Marlins. It’s more for the nationally televised sports games that would appear on ESPN, FS1, TNT etc. but ideal for someone who wants to just pay for one streaming service instead of signing up for cable to get those channels or a sports fanatic that would a great option. February 7, 20242 yr AKA they're recreating cable... Fox Sporst and ESPN are already Disney. Disney sold the Fox Sports regional networks when the gov't forced them to be spun off for anti-trust. So basically this is Disney+WB joining. They're probably seeing sports subscriptions fall so they want to come together.
February 22, 20242 yr https://www.cnbc.com/2024/02/20/fubotv-sues-disney-fox-warner-bros-over-sports-joint-venture.html Sports streaming platform FuboTV is suing Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery over their recently announced joint venture, citing what the company calls “extreme suppression of competition in the U.S. sports-focused streaming market,” according to a copy of the lawsuit obtained by CNBC. The joint venture, announced earlier this month, aims to offer viewers a new way to access marquee live sports. It’s slated to roll out this fall, but several questions remain around its pricing and structure. “These horizontal competitors are colluding to create a JV that will cause substantial harm to competition and consumers,” the complaint says. The lawsuit also names Disney-owned ESPN and Hulu as defendants. “Each of these companies has consistently engaged in anticompetitive practices that aim to monopolize the market, stifle any form of competition, create higher pricing for subscribers and cheat consumers from deserved choice,” FuboTV CEO David Gandler said in a statement. “By joining together to exclusively reserve the rights to distribute a specialized live sports package, we believe these corporations are erecting insurmountable barriers that will effectively block any new competitors from entering the market.”
February 22, 20242 yr This lawsuit will go absolutely no where. I mean its their fucking content they are paying for. They can all do whatever the fuck they want regarding distribution.
