I finally got around to updating the chart for attendance. Here's where we're at so far:

Opening Day this year was vs. the Rockies instead of the Pirates, and fell on a Friday instead of a Thursday. Attendance of that game was 32,459 vs. 31,590, an increase of 869.

Currently on pace for a slight decrease, though I think that'll drop, as last year has another sellout Yankees series that won't happen this year. We do host the Red Sox, but I don't know if they draw quite the same as the Yankees.

Through 26 home games:

Upcoming homestand from 5/18-5/24 against the Braves for 4 games and Mets for 3 games.

That’s for the vista level which is like sitting in the Goodyear blimp lol Tickets worth buying are minimum $40-$50 each so you’re talking $200+ for a family of four plus it’s $20 parking then another $50-$100 for food and drinks. The culture here is very check to check and these 9-5 moms aren’t gonna get out of work and rush to get everyone down the 836 traffic to get there on time and drop $300-$400 for a game. They should have built the damn stadium in broward so the palm beach people with actual quality of life can go.

Yeah, home run porch tickets are like $10 I think.....to be fair, the place is so empty, you could get those tickets and then move somewhere better without much issue, but I agree with your overall point.

Yeah I went to a game recently on a Tuesday or Wednesday and dealing with Miami traffic was a nightmare.....I did it daily for 4 years so I'm used to it and know the traffic patterns, but still it's a chore to get down there for Broward fans.....Palm Beach fans likely don't even bother on weekdays.

Alright, so a comment in the other thread made me realize I hadn't updated this chart/thread in a few months....

Here's the update prior to tonight's game.

Though 63 games vs last year both overall and average per game.

And vs. the last 4 years:

Numbers are up slightly, which honestly is pretty impressive because last year's figures through this point included the sold out Yankees series (33.8k average in that series), which usually skews numbers on the season (see 2023, the last season before that that we played NYY). So that means that attendance has been higher more evenly throughout the season, and not just an overall boost from a Yankees spike.

We start a 6-game homestand against the Nationals and Red Sox tonight. Then a homestand against the Cubs, Mets, and Dodgers, and close out the home season against the Braves.

These teams bode well for an overall increase in attendance vs. last year.

Ok, so final season attendance tallies are in......

Good year attendance wise vs the last few years......overall was 1,231,018.

They had another 74,384 jump in attendance over last year, 6.43% increase, or 918 increase per game.

They've added 143k increase over the last 2 seasons.

It's the strongest attendance in the last 5 years that I started keeping track.

I looked up attendance of years prior, and it's the strongest attendance since 2017. The last few years of Loria were in the 1.5-1.7M/year range, BUT we know they were reporting inflated numbers. So this is the highest attendance during the Sherman era.

We'll see if the trend continues.

All that said across MLB overall, we only outdrew the Athletics, who played in a minor league park.

The Rays were about 200k ahead of us.

Note: ESPN's figure is exactly 10k off (low) for us.

The article talks about how overall MLB attendance went up, and went through various large increase and drops. TB having a 628k increase (going back to the Trop), others went up a lot, several went down a lot, and several down 100-200k.

Then literally the last line is there just to take a shot at the Marlins.

Here's a snippet showing it:

That's where the article ends....nothing after that....no context. While it's true, the Marlins did slide below the Rays to go from 28th to 29th.......they also had a 74k increase, not a decrease as it implies. But they don't mention that, just mention the placement drop just to make a dig.

MLB recovered from the Covid attendance dip by 2023. Since then, league wide attendance has risen 1.42%. The Marlins despite making the playoffs in 2023 and following with 100 losses in 2024 and below .500 the next 2 (despite some signs of talent growth), have seen a 5.82% growth in attendance.

Overall, attendance has grown 91.56% since 2021 when it bottomed out due to the pandemic. League wide attendance grew 58.38% in that span.

All of this is based on data from Baseball Reference.

Obviously, a still the lowest in the Majors for teams playing in an MLB ballpark. Marlins do have the most room to grow, so it is not surprising to see that we have grown faster than most teams. Encouraging start, need to see more. They did see a big spike the last time the team made the playoffs, but some of that was just post pandemic bounce back.

Yeah.....winning consistently (and ownership proving they'll do what it takes) will cause people to show up....look at the Panthers.

Attendance increases are a positive sign for sure, but they have to keep the on-field momentum to continue that.
