Would you be...

Would you be somewhat pissed if we got Vlad, a top three major leaguer, for only a year?

I would feel somewhat teased with a player like that for just a year.

What do you all think?

hell no.

Id be happy, and then Id be happier when we resign him or someone else next year

i would be a happy with Vlad, evenb if it is only for one year- but i think that if we sign him, he's really going to like it here, and he'll want to stay here for a long time. And, whatever happens, he wont leave us like pudge did. That would make me REALLY mad.

i wouldn't be pissed. 1 year of vlad is better than no vlad, and having him play in miami for a year will give us serious leverage in future contract negotiations.

me too...that trader

the way i see it is since the stadium issue isnt settled yet, i have no problem having him for one year. we're pretty much going 1 year at a time, hopefully we would be able to resign him if the stadium issue is done

That one year deal will allow him to familiarize himself with the team and give us a better chance of resigning him the following year.

You have to consider that stadium talks won't exist next year.

There will be stadium plans, stadium ground-breaking ceremonies, etc., instead, which means a lot for our FO. Things are only going up from here.

On top of that, Pudge had an average-to-mediocre regular season. Has Guerrero ever had one of those?

If Guerrero plays mediocre like Pudge did, we'd still make the playoffs. If he has a decent year will be in the Series.

And we'll be able to offer Vlad arbitration, and odds are the reason this is probably stalling (considering a 1 year $13 mil offer is on the table) is that either he or the Marlins want a 2nd year guaranteed or a performance based option. Odds are if we sign Vlad, there's a way we get him back for a second year, unlike Pudge.

I agree

hey buddy, can you make a post longer than 6 words? am i asking too much from you?

Shut up WC... You guys are so difficult to please... *shakes head*

Who said the Marlins have the money to offer a multi-year multi-million dollar contract to Vlad, just to please you???

Vlad wants to play here, he is giving the Marlins a HUGE break by even considering a one year deal. But we have no choice due to the Stadium situation.

He is no Pudge, and he will be reasonable at the time of negotiating a multi year contract.

I can see him here for a while.

i think you're just plain greedy. if we were the Yankees, we could think like this. but we're the Marlins - it was a blessing to get Pudge for one year, and it would be a blessing to have Vlad for one year. we are living on borrowed time right now - we were THIS close to losing a team to contraction a few years ago. To say you don't want Vlad unless you could see him for 5 years in teal is ridiculous. if (still a big "if") he comes in for one year, or even one month, we should all fall at the altar of King Beinfest.
