According to rotoworld, the Expos would consider trading Livan Hernandez. While he may not be the greatest pitcher around, all those people who seem to think we're in on the Maddux sweepstakes should look at Livan too. He is an absolute work-horse, which is good because it eases the pressure on AJ to return because we know that Livan'll probably stay healthy, and Livan is still a "local hero" with the fans. Bringing him back would only be a 1 year commitment (1 year $6 million), and it would be a nice story for the local media.

Not very likely, but a nice thought to toss around... :mischief2

IMO, Livan > Maddux at this point of their careers

And he probably wouldn't take a lot to get from the Expos. If Minaya is trying to get under payroll there, it wouldn't take more than one or two B-level prospects.

Agreed.

Livan is coming off probably his best year, and he would jump right to the two spot in our rotation IMO.

In addition, Livan would love to play here (and the fan base would love it too)

Remember "I love you Miami"

It would be a bigger PR boost than signing Maddux.

It would be great to have Livan back. Last year he made $3.8M. Anyone know the details of his contract, and how much he is due for this year? Not sure why the Expos would want to trade him as he is worth the $3.8M.

I would still rather have Livan than Maddux.

But with Roger Clemens signing with Houston at 5 million, I believe Maddux must lower his 8 million bucks demands. Thoughts?

He's got one year left at $6 million

He's got one year left at $6 million Does anyone has any idea on what the Expos are looking for in trades? This doesn't make any sense, since they traded Vazquez.

I guess is the scenario of trade now in order to get something in return.

I would rather us go after Damian Moss. He could start until/if Burnett is ready and could then become a lefty in the pen. Maybe even a closer someday? And he is cheaper and sure, a bit of a reclamation project. He has good stuff though.

though a part of me would love to have him back, particularly because he was so good last season, i realize it's probably not worth it for $6M and a prospect. to tell you the truth, i would have rather we had just kept redman.

"what golf clubs?"

Yeah, I agree with the keeping Redman, and the fact that Livan is probably not worth the $6 million, but the intangibles he brings, and the "warm fuzzies" he'll give to a lot of the fans (much like Conine did) is probably worth it. Doubt it'll happen though...

I'd prefer Maddux, mostly because he is consistent, he could teach the pitchers alot, he would make a bigger splash for the team, and (as someone mentioned earlier) he most likely will come cheaper thanks to Roger getting 5 mil.

If not, I'd still prefer Damian Moss.

how sweet would it be for Maddux to win his 300th game in teal vs the Braves?

livan could be a good guy for the bullpen.

you my friend, are smoking some good ass crack

you my friend, are smoking some good ass crack if you get livan to fill in for AJ and then Burnett comes back, which of the two would you choose to put in the bullpen? Livan is clutch and can pitch every night.

Would getting both Livan and Orlando Hernandez be a bigger PR boost?

The Clemens signing does nothing to market value. Teams weren't negotiating with Clemens, it was "if I come back it'll be for the Astros." When Michael Jordan came back with the Wizards, he played for the veteran's minimum, and Mario Lemieux doesn't even make a salary, he returned it to the team so they could pay Marc Andre-Fleury. Circumstances like that don't affect market value. His value may come down because it's essentially a 3 week deadline, and then pitchers and catchers report to camp. Maddux has very little negotiating leverage at this point because sitting out won't create a bidder for him (like it would for Pudge) and he isn't getting any younger...

Im not too big on him. He walks waaay too many batters. Even his one good year in Atlanta, he Ked 111 and walked 90. He might be worth signing and sending to the minors.

you my friend, are smoking some good ass crack LOL!!! HAHAHAHA! :lol
