January 23, 200422 yr Never mentioned which team in chicago. Theres some special Baseball Tonight episode on ESPN now and one of the announcers mentioned Grag Maddux signed in Chicago only thing is he wasnt very clear as to whether it was the Cubs or WSox. Anyone have any details on this?
January 23, 200422 yr Well if Greg Maddux signed with the Cubs, then he has screwed himself. There is no way he gets better than the fourth starter.
January 23, 200422 yr He signed with the Cubs people.... If he signed with the White Sox, i'll jump off a bridge.
January 23, 200422 yr He signed with the Cubs people.... If he signed with the White Sox, i'll jump off a bridge. Is there room for two? Maddux would not do well in the AL methinks.
January 23, 200422 yr Well if Greg Maddux signed with the Cubs, then he has screwed himself. If you consider a potential shiny piece of gold with a hole in it and diamonds on top screwing yourself, I'm sure he's happy doing it.
January 23, 200422 yr The cubs have one of the best rotations in the games. The Oakland As, Red Sox, Yankees, and Cubs (no matter which order) are the top 4 and any of the four if not all can have 3 aces among them (besides boston.) I have never seen so many teams with such stacked rotations with so many teams with the complete opposite!
January 23, 200422 yr There is absolutely nothing on ESPN, Sporting News or any of those sites about a Maddux signing. Cubs fans aren't discussing it on their boards either. Are you sure you heard it right? Could it have been "if" Maddux signs with the Cubs? Last I knew he and Borass rejected their offer.

January 23, 200422 yr Author I kno what i heard. It was mentioned VERY briefly early in the show that maddux has signed w/ chicago. Just never mentioned w/ which chicago team. If i AM indeed wrong im sorry. the worst that could have happened was that i didnt hear correctly cause they were talking over him while he was announcing it.

Except the Cubs won't get there Wild Card, the Stros will stop them before the playoffs even start...
January 23, 200422 yr Wow yet another baseless report from ESPN, they already screwed our major player this offseason. :angry

If it's true, it'd be much bigger news and you wouldn't have to wait for confirmation. It's be everywhere. I'm filing this under "unconfirmed."
January 23, 200422 yr Well if Greg Maddux signed with the Cubs, then he has screwed himself. There is no way he gets better than the fourth starter. Why the hell does it matter if he's 4th starter or 1st starter? Either way he gets the same amount of starts. This isn't football or basketball.

I'm pretty sure you misheard because I saw the same show last night and I think it was Brantely who said that if Chicago end up signing Maddux they probably will have the best pitching staff in the NL and maybe in all of MLB.

January 25, 200422 yr Except the Cubs won't get there Wild Card, the Stros will stop them before the playoffs even start... If were going by Best Off Seasons wouldn't that mean that both The Phillies and Stro's should have been playoff teams last year?

No the Stros will stop them not because of their offseason but because they just will.

Puh-leaze The fact that Wild Card likes the Cubs chances to go deep into the playoffs makes me feel a lot more confident that they aren't going to even make the playoffs.
