IYO: Who will be better? Beckett or Burnett

Featured Replies

Tommy John Surgery usually increases arm strength. (imagining Burnett) :D

Old AJBurnett: Consistantly-94,95,96 and sometimes 97MPH

Topped out: 101

The new AJ Burnett: Consistantly-96-97-98 MPH

Will top out: 103

:mischief2

I don't see Burnett ever having the control needed to be as good as Beckett, much less better.

What are you talking about?

Burnett puts it down the pipe and the hitters still have trouble with it.

:mischief2 ahhh.I doubt it dude.

Why you doubting it?

He will throw harder, thats for sure. He will be conditioning more than ever.

yeh but 103...seems a little high :confused

Burnett puts it down the pipe and the hitters still have trouble with it. he was incredibly wild before the injury. Do you not remember his no-hitter?

It pains me to watch him sometimes because he walks so many.

Last season, in AJ's 23 IP, he had 18 walks! Thats almost 1 walk an inning.

Josh Beckett: in his career has 0.40 walks per inning.

AJ Burnett: 0.50 per inning.

Josh Beckett has shown much better control, too, year by year. In 2001, he threw .458 walks per inning. In 2002, he threw 0.41 walks per inning. In 2003, he threw .39 walks per inning.

AJ: In 1999, he threw 0.60 walks per inning. In 2000, 0.53. In 2001, 0.48, and of course in his injury-riddled 2003 season, 0.78 walks per inning.

He has shown improvement, but has had longer to do so, and is still nowhere near the level of Beckett.

no doubt beckett has more control, but if both play to their potentials AJ might be just a bit better

And the 103 is a max. Though it probably is a tad high for anyone.

Yea, its amazing he even pitched those 25 innings considering................................... HE ALREADY HAD NO LIGAMENT IN HIS ELBOW!!!!!!!!!

Josh has a lot of confidence now...He pitched great in the playoffs...I say he is better than AJ.

and 1 hit batsmen

speaking of hit batsmen in a no-hit bid, any1 remember kevin browns no-hitter against san fran. the ONLY mistake he made was a hit batter that he had on 2 strikes. the only thin that made the difference between a no-hiter and a perfect game :confused ah meng, what could have been

But in a few years-AJ might be better.

And as for whoever said that they will eat their words when Burnett strikes out #300: Who cares how many strikeouts he has? I care about wins and ERA.
