  1. I like the move because of the precedent they set by not waiting for McGehee to regress. I thought they would be too dense to try to upgrade there. Domingo had potential but overall, I think I like the deal. P.S Prado should hit first or second and Dee should hit 6th or 7th *Runs away* Apparently, the Marlins might flip Prado to another team. CASEY MCGEHEE 4EVR If they do that the offseason gets a negative grade. Maybe. Good thing is for now nobody is reporting one way or another, just speculating.
  2. One thing I'd like to see is moving McGehee for a prospect or two. The farm is incredibly stripped after all this trading and it wasn't a great minor league system in the first place. Also, it's not a stretch to think Dietrich can produce similar to McGehee as a backup bat.

  4. Yea, probably a good idea to move him now.
  5. Couldn't agree more. And I like Brian Anderson more than both, although the Marlins are devaluing him a bit by moving him to third.
  6. I believe Bohn will make the top 20 prospect list before the season He also had a good sowing in the AFL if I'm not mistaken. It feels like the huge gap between the perception of Avery Romero and Justin Bohn isn't in line with reality.

  8. I read that article, a nice feel good read but its hilarious that he twice brought up Koehler, once brought up Jacob Turner, and not once mentioned Cosart. Somebody missed a memo there. Just a national writer who got assigned the 'Marlins offseason was interesting' story and he didn't bother to look too deep. I also hate the bit about Loria supposedly having foresight. No, he has no patience and foresight. He saved a bunch of cash impulsively and the front office is mostly the same. It worked out in spite of him.
  9. Yeah, he'll end up with better defensive numbers than our other second baseman would have (especially Dietrich) but he seems to suffer from the same disease that Hech does. Hechofaplay and DeeliciousDeefense will make the twitter rounds and webgems, but they'll both have trouble with routine balls and throws. I like to think that given their age and the general simplicity of their defensive flaw, it can get better? Right? Infield coaches are there for something.
  10. "If you're a baseball fan in South Florida, you're loving life. You have a spectacularly beautiful ballpark. You have one of the five best players in baseball agreeing to be part of a bright and shiny future. You also some of baseball's best young talent, from Jose Fernandez and Christian Yelich to Tom Koehler and Marcell Ozuna." Richard Justice on MLB.com. http://m.marlins.mlb.com/news/article/104207858/richard-justice-marlins-full-of-intrigue-after-roster-reshaping Always funny when a national guy squeeks in a detail that shows he doesn't really follow the team very closely. Koehler. It's kind of a narrative that Miami has notable young talent outside of the outfield and Jose.
  11. Yeah, we definitely upgraded at the very very least in terms of baserunning. These Steamer projections for 2015 scare me though: Dee Gordon: .261/.313/.341, 83 WRC+ Donovan Solano: .253/.303/.338, 79 WRC+ Derek Dietrich: .243/.302/.402, 96 WRC+ This sucks. Is it realistic to think that Dee also has some defensive upside? He has similar numbers to Hech in terms of messing up the routine plays and making the hard ones. But offensively I fear the regression. Odd thing is he had a .360 OBP in the minors. Let's see the bunt game too.
  12. We've made some smart moves so far, but we've actually hardly spent any money considering the 10 mill we got from LA We're a contender but Loria is being too thrifty for my taste especially after how much money he's saving right now with Stanton. Go get me some extensions with Yelich and Jose, i need to see some more $$$$ This would actually complete the offseason for me. Lock in Yelich first and foremost. I want that dude around for awhile.
  13. Good pickup. Pretty much sets the Marlins up to make a run at second in the division and a WC.
  14. I want Shields. That will make me feel better. Na thanks
  15. So lets discuss the situation that Haren leaves We have Alvarez Latos Cosart Eovaldi Koehler Do we make any moves or do we stick with this? That's it. Resources aren't exactly abound, so you project this, and hope that people like Nicolino and Conley aren't far for depth.
  16. Someone convince me I'm wrong. Our rotation is kinda scary tbh. Latos doesn't recover? Cosart doesn't find the same success in marlins park (peripherals)? eovaldi proves he's really v2 of nolasco? alvarez regresses? big salad regresses? fernandez doesn't recover? Haren retires? I know these could be said about any rotation, but I think we have more of a concern. I don't see a pitcher there we know we can rely on. Should we be worried? It will fall somewhere in the middle. Some things will go wrong, someone may even break out. Overall what you have is probably the 2nd or 3rd best staff in the division, right there with the Mets but clearly behind the Nats.
  17. I just can't see anyone he would replace in the top 10 from this list Maybe not but not making the top 20?
  18. Is it just me or is Justin Bohn a little underrated? He didn't even make the Marlins top 20 on MLB.com. Seems weird for a supposed plus defender, plus runner whose only question was his bat, and who hit pretty well in his first full season at shortstop.
  19. Our core of young talent is very good. Compare to the rest of baseball and you'll see that not many teams can match it. You can say it's just the OF and Fernandez, but how many teams have that? There is no team in the big leagues with a roster full of core players. Even the best teams build around, at most, a handful of players with everyone else being rather replaceable. The problem the past couple of years is that we haven't surrounded this young talent with the right veterans. I'll take it.
  20. Funny thing is I'm not trying to bash the team. I think they will be better and be over .500 next year and have a good core. Just adding perspective.
  21. Alvarez, Eovaldi, Cosart, and Latos are not exactly 4-5 starters. Thise four alone are better than most teams 1-3 starters. Pretty predictable response from you. You watch the Marlins closely than most so you like to think they are better than what they are. If you weren't a Marlins fan you might think of Cosart as an inconsistent pitcher who has had control issues his entire career before finishing with a good ERA in 10 starts last season. Small sample size. Latos is a one year rental and I think it was a good pickup, but I didn't exactly factor it into the 'young, controllable talent' discussion. Eovaldi is a hard thrower who got hit around last season and I don't think most teams would factor him in as a top three starter. Henderson fits well in Marlins Park and I actually believe he is a solid, No.3 type. But he's not enviable young talent. It's something that gets overstated, is all I'm saying. I love the young outfield. Stanton and Fernandez and maybe Yelich give you three superstar types. It's very top loaded though. Infield is hot trash, minors is hot trash, and starting pitching is Jose, a no.3 and backend guys we call 'depth' to be nice.
  22. We definitely have a lot more "talented" pieces than quite a few ballclubs. I can picture quite a few fan bases that would kill to have the players we have. Yes, people would love our outfield and Jose Fernandez. My point is it's very loaded to the outfield and one particular special pitcher. All that pitching 'depth;' is another word for a bunch of No. 4-5 starters.
  23. German and Anderson have the most upside on that list outside of Kolek. They are key. Rosa did show some flashes though I wonder he didn't rise a little more. And I'm glad Jarlin Garcia didn't get scooped up in Rule V.
  24. Great deal for depth. Sizemore > Ed Lucas A healthy Sizemore but actually be better than Jones too.
  25. The team is very talented. Whether or not they put it together is a different story. Hechavarria is talented, so is Gordon. Our whole rotation top to bottom is extremely talented. Then again, Jeremy Hermida and Kyle Skipworth were once talented players. I don't think it's an unfair assessment I don't know, man. Saying Hech and Gordon are talented is technically fair, but pretty disingenuous considering the limitations they have and the objectively average projected production. I wouldn't call all the rotation top to bottom 'extremely talented.' Cosart and Koehler are late rotation options, Eovaldi is an enigma. I do believe Henderson will work out as a long term No.3 pitcher in this park, and Jose is special, but let's not over do this again. Miami is talented and it's extremely outfield weighted, not spread around. There is enough to win though, so I'm not saying the team sucks either, just think it gets a little overstated.
