SongInTheAir
Henderson Alvarez Mat Latos Jarred Cosart Nathan Eovaldi Dan Haren Also available: Jose Fernandez (automatic #1 when he's back) Tom Koehler Brad Hand Justin Nicolino So...who gets traded for that first baseman we're looking for? Eovaldi is the likely candidate, unless the Marlins want to hang on to their depth until Jose comes back. Remember, Hand is out of options, anyone know about Koehler? SongInTheAir
I think if Disco/Wallach gets Latos then Hand/? can probably get Morneau. Reds were salary dumping though, not sure if the Rockies will be on the same page. Hand in Denver would be an atrocity. Let's hope the Rockies really don't want Morneau. pollythewog
I seriously doubt Haren pitches this year
Hotcorner
Hell I'd just as soon keep Koehler in the rotation over Dan Haren. They can put that 10 mil elsewhere.

SongInTheAir
Latos is arbitration eligible coming off a $7.25 million season. I don't think he gets much of a raise due to his injuries and shortened season. $8 million?

MLBTR's projects him at 8.
CYmarlins
Don't think he can get 20% less than that either. I say 8.5 to 9 million. Who is better Koehler or Haren? If Haren stays then he is in the rotation and Koehler becomes the long man.

We all know how Red and the FO love "veteran presence" and "experience" at the cost of talent.
pollythewog
I wouldn't lump Haren in with those guys. He's still pretty servicable, but yeah should probably be the odd man out with our current bunch. He might even see some significant improvement at marlins park because of his always high HR rate. I just mean that even if he shits his pants and cries himself back to the dugout every time he puts on a Marlins uniform, he'll still get at least 10 starts before Red makes a change. pollythewog
Well this is interesting: Michael Hill (#Marlins Pres. of Baseball Operations) just mentioned Jeff Mathis as a factor that might sway Dan Haren to pitch next season. Yessir
Haren is going to pitch. These dudes always make these grand claims and never act on them. He's got 10 million reasons to pitch next year.
pollythewog
2 of Haren's best years with LAA were with Mathis catching him FWIW

I'm guessing the no state income tax might help too.

SongInTheAir
Mathis: "Hey Danny, if you pitch for us you'll have a chance to actually have a higher batting average than a position player." Haren: *Looks at Mathis' career batting average* "Holy shit." For reference, career slash lines: Jeff Mathis: .196/.256/.307 Dan Haren: .211/.238/.
SilverBullet
I knew we insisted on Mathis in 2012 for a reason.
Erick
I still think that we're trading Eovaldi. Alvarez, Latos, Cosart, Haren, Koehler is what I think they're going to go with.

I wonder if waiting on him to make a decision is causing them to hold off on an Eovaldi for 1b deal...
