  6. With the San Francisco Giants' Barry Bonds two homers behind Hank Aaron's record, ESPN2 adds tonight's Atlanta Braves-San Francisco game. Then TBS, as part of its regularly scheduled Braves coverage, carries games between those teams Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Fox spokesman Dan Bell said Sunday that Fox is in discussions with Major League Baseball about picking up the Giants games Friday night and Saturday. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/h...c-british_N.htm
  7. What a difference a year makes. At last year's draft, the Florida Panthers traded away a franchise goalie in Roberto Luongo. On Friday afternoon, hours before the 2007 draft kicked off, the Panthers have apparently traded for another. The Panthers have reportedly pulled off a blockbuster deal, trading three draft picks to the salary-shedding Nashville Predators for goalie Tomas Vokoun. Florida surrendered next year's first-round pick and two second-round selections for Vokoun. Florida acquired one of those second-rounders in a trade with Tampa Bay for Chris Gratton last week. Vokoun, 30, missed the 2005-06 playoffs because of a blood disorder, a condition that forced him to miss part of this past season as well. Vokoun came on strong, however, and went 27-12 with a GAA of 2.40 and a save percentage of .920. In his eight-year NHL career, Vokoun has appeared in 384 games and is 161-159-35. He has a career GAA of 2.55 and a .913 save percentage. The Panthers would not comment on the trade. Vokoun turns 31 on July 2. http://www.miamiherald.com/416/story/148429.html[/font]
  8. Since being traded, Julio has a 1.59 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and a .182 BAA. I guess a change of scenery can make a difference.
  9. Would that Owens at the top of the Chicago lineup be Eric Owens? I haven't heard of him since he played with the Angels after being with the Marlins in 2002. I really liked that guy. I remember jumping up and down one time that he stole home. Edit: Nevermind, its not him, Jerry Owens is the guy thats playing. I wonder what ever happened to Eric though... Incidentally, Eric Owens is the hitting coach for the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

  11. @ Leg one of their three-city, 10-game road trip ended on a sour note for the Marlins. Swept in three games at Washington, the Marlins head to Pittsburgh for a four-game series beginning on Monday at PNC Park. The Marlins are now five games under .500 for the first time this season. Riding a three-game losing streak, the Marlins turn to ace Dontrelle Willis in the series opener at Pittsburgh. The Pirates are countering with lefty Tom Gorzelanny. Monday marks the first of seven games against the Pirates this season. Historically, Florida has struggled with Pittsburgh, posting a 54-65 record, including a 21-41 mark on the road. The numbers haven't gotten any better the past few seasons, as the Marlins are 4-12 over the past 16 games in the series. All-time at PNC Park, Florida is 6-13. The Marlins' road trip opened in Washington, continues in Pittsburgh and will culminate with three Interleague meetings against Tampa Bay, beginning Friday, at Tropicana Field. Pitching matchup FLA: LHP Dontrelle Willis (5-2, 5.40) Willis lost to the Dodgers on Wednesday, getting off to a slow start and allowing four runs on six hits over seven innings. He walked a season-high five, giving him nine walks in his past two outings. Lifetime against the Pirates, the D-Train is 2-2 with a 2.79 ERA. PIT: LHP Tom Gorzelanny (4-2, 2.72) With quality starts in five of seven appearances this season, Gorzelanny looks to build on his string of fine starts when he faces the Marlins. He's made one career start against Florida, getting a no-decision despite giving up just two runs over six innings. Player to watch Miguel Cabrera is in the midst of an 0-for-11 slump, and his average has dropped to .320. The three-time All-Star entered the Nationals series batting .333, but he went hitless in nine at-bats, although he walked four times. Cabrera hasn't gotten a hit since singling in the fourth inning on Thursday against the Dodgers. On television FSN Florida On radio 560 WQAM, 1140 AM WQBA (Espa?ol)

  14. You've got to be kidding me. Teams all over the league play their last spring game in locations closer to where there first game will be if theyre starting on the road. Last year we played two games in Texas because we opened in Houston. The reason why the Marlins usually dont do this is because we usually open at home. And most of the guys who play in these games are guys who end up in A or AA.

  17. I used to send those same letters and cards to all different types of athletes. I dont remember what percentage got sent back, but I was just looking through some cards and found some autographs: John Smoltz, Dan Majerle, Isaac Austin, Richmond Webb, Jay Bell, Pete Harnisch, John Olerud, Andre Dawson, Greg Colbrunn, Al Leiter, Kevin Seitzer, and Roger McDowell. One funny thing I remember is that Al Leiter kept the card I sent him because he liked it since it was one of the few made showing him as a Yankee, but he did send me two other ones auto'd.
