Marlins @ Dodgers 7/10 10:10 PM
Dan Uggla returns to the lineup tonight in LA, taking the field for the first time since he left with a sprained left ankle June 28. Uggla, who has 23 home runs, is back in the fifth spot in the lineup. Running is the only question, and Uggla said he felt "85" percent when it came to running. "That will be the test,'' he said. Here's the Marlins lineup: Ramirez SS Hermida RF Cantu 3B Willingham LF Uggla 2B Jacobs 1B Ross CF Baker C Johnson P http://miamiherald.typepad.com/fish_bytes/...me-back-da.html

Sexson Cut
Of course we dont want him, but look whos available: Jul 7 OF Reggie Abercrombie was designated for assignment following Sunday's loss and the Astros purchased the contract of RHP Chad Paronto, who will join the team Monday in Pittsburgh. The move became necessary when the Astros' bullpen was depleted in Sunday's 17-inning loss to Atlanta.

Marlins @ Padres 7/8 10:05pm
Lineups, Etc. -- Marlins/Padres (Tuesday)Dan Uggla was out on the field Tuesday, sprinting and taking grounders to test his sprained left ankle. Afterward, he said the ankle felt "strong" and predicted he could be ready to return to second base in a few days. "It's really any day now," he said. "It kind of tells me I've turned the corner on it." With Matt Treanor going on the disabled list with a strained left hip, the Marlins called up catcher John Baker from Triple A Albuquerque. Paul Hoover is behind the plate tonight and manager Fredi Gonzalez said Baker would start on Wednesday. Lineups: Marlins: SS Hanley Ramirez, RF Jeremy Hermida, 1B Jorge Cantu, LF Josh Willingham, 3B Wes Helms, CF Cody Ross, C Paul Hoover, 2B Robert Andino, P Andrew Miller. Padres: CF Scott Hairston, 2B Edgar Gonzalez, 1B Adrian Gonzalez, 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff, LF Chase Headley, RF Chip Ambres (yes, that Chip Ambres, the Marlins' first-round draft pick in 1998); SS Luis Rodriguez, C Nick Hundley, P Randy Wolf. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/fish_bytes/...ups-etc---.html

How did we get Chalmers? For 2 2nd rounders next year and cash. After the draft, Darnell Jackson was traded to Cleveland for a 2nd rounder.

NCAA Baseball Tournament
Too bad college baseball gets no pub, because this is so improbable its amazing, #89 RPI winning the whole thing. Heard a great fact on ESPN-the #89 RPI team in basketball was a #7 seed-in the NIT!

Is it ok to date a third cousin?
Wow. I'm surprised by some of these responses. My cousin has 5 kids...who are all my second cousins. One of those kids is my godson. So dating a third cousin would be like dating my godson's daughter. That's not very many degrees of separation. Just think of your cousins, now think of their kids. You would be dating your cousin's grand daughter. GROSS GROSS GROSS. And I would like to see proof that, genetically, this wouldn't cause problems, Rab Just to be technical, thats not how the numbering thing goes. Your first cousins kids are not your second cousins, they are first cousins, once removed. Second cousins are your parents' first cousins' children, if that makes any sense. I see. So are third cousins your grandparents 1st cousins? Then any of their kids are your 3rd cousins once removed....? 3rd cousins are your grandparents' 1st cousins' grandchildren. If you are not 'removed', that means you are in the same generation. The number just refers to how many generations you go back before you share ancestors (1st cousins share grandparents, 2nd cousins share great-grandparents, ...)

The Orange Bowl being in the picture is a pretty good clue this is not current.

I noticed the other day that Randy Messenger had been released earlier this year by the Giants, then signed a minor league contract. He has a 5.03 ERA in AAA now.

Class Of 2008!
Palm Beach Central High School Class of 2008 I graduated 2 weeks ago yesterday future plans: 2 years of Community, 2 years of FSU--major in Sports Management, minor in business admin As a high school counselor, I was curious how Palm Beach county does graduations so early. Do you take final exams before or after the graduation? What do they do if a student is a potential graduate but doesnt end up graduating, because a lot of our students don't clear for graduation until final grades and final exams are in.

Either stay at a hotel closer to the stadium or rent a car, otherwise youre going to spend a fortune on cabs.

When does it make sense to think about adding a veteran arm?
David Wells' agent called the Marlins, but Florida has shown no interest in any of the veteran free agent starting pitchers (Wells, Jeff Weaver, Byung-Hyun Kim). If the Marlins make a rotation change, they have options: Ex-Rays starter Doug Waechter (who's now in Florida's bullpen), plus several top Double A prospects are pitching well (including Chris Volstad). http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/502707.html

Who's your Opening Day Starter? (Ver. 2)
Initially, manager Fredi Gonzalez said he would announce the Opening Day starter on Tuesday. He also was planning to reveal the entire rotation. However, he had a change of heart. "It's not a good time right now," Gonzalez said. "Every day, we're juggling stuff." http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/news/articl...sp&c_id=fla
