  1. No idea but I hope it's Marinez. Marinez hasnt been on the active roster for a week now.
  2. It's a good thing the stadium passed before the election.
  3. Hunter Jones Scouting Report: Big, tough lefty who can go a lot of innings out of the pen. Above average command, deceptive delivery. Goes right at hitters. Utilizes a 88-91 mph two-seam fastball and a tough slider, which is rather new to his arsenal. Also has a low 80s slider - almost a slurve-type pitch. He has a low 80s circle change that he's moved in an out of his arsenal. Good composure on the mound, works well with men on base and in pressure situations. Great success against righties, but not all that effective against lefties. Has not been used as a lefty specialist in the past, and due to his reverse split he does not project to be used in that capacity in the future. Good fielder. Missed a lot of time in college with a fractured arm. Had successful surgery, but due to health concerns Jones went undrafted. Jose Alvarez Scouting Report: Small lefty with a 88-91 mph straight fastball. He also throws a 72-76 mph changeup and an average low-70s curveball. His curveball shows sweeping action at times, but also shows 12-6 break on occasion. It's a work in progress, but he already misses bats with it. His changeup is pretty deceptive - it keeps batters off balance. His arm action on his change is indiscernible from his fastball. Decent control, Alvarez pounds the zone, but tends to leave the ball up too often, where he really can get hit around. http://www.soxprospects.com/

  6. I seriously think some sort of senility is quickly settling in with him. He said several things throughout the game and this whole season that just didn't make sense. Like at the end of the game, he said something like "as we turn the calendar to November" referring to the present. Um, wasnt the game on october 3rd?

  9. The interleague scheduling is really odd for next year. It used to be all the teams within a division play the same division in the other league, with a few changes here and there. Next year, the Marlins don't play any of the same AL teams as the Phillies and only have one or two in common with the rest of the NL East. Also, don't like that 11 of the Marlins last 16 games are out of the division. Makes it tough to make up games in a possible pennant race. The Phillies last 24 games are within the division, 18 for the Braves.

  12. Projected to this point at a Cat 3 by the weekend. Though as most of us know hurricanes have a tendency to miss Florida a lot, but certainly something to keep an eye on. Where did you get that from? As it stands now, it not even projected to become a hurricane.
  13. Gotta love how its not even raining at the stadium and it looks like a severe thunderstorm in Coral Gables.
  14. Why is this such a source of confusion everytime it happens? If they cant show the game, it wont be on tv.
  15. Unfortunately, weve come to expect medocrity at best with these guys. And no Denis Potvin
  16. As a college counselor, let me tell you it all depends on where you see yourself going after high school. The main thing colleges look at when evaluating your transcript, ahead of test scores, GPA, extra-curriculars, is the level to which you challenged yourself. If youre looking at highly selective schools, they want to see youve taken the most challenging courses your school offers. For a school that isnt as highly selective, AP classes look good. Regular core classes dont really impress anyone. But youve got to know yourself and what you are capable of, take the most challenging classes that you can do well in. We don't offer IB and I never took them, so I cant really help with that aspect.
  17. Per his contract, Tommy is allowed to take off one series per year, so with this being right after the all-star break, it made sense for him because he gets a whole week off. He will return on Monday in San Diego.
  18. Can we get back to reality?
  19. http://www.miamihera...ry/1121876.html it just cant be easy, can it? Marlins stadium bond sale falls short BY MATTHEW HAGGMANmhaggman@miamiherald.com The long-awaited sale of bonds to pay for a new baseball stadium in Little Havana fell short Tuesday, prompting a scramble at County Hall and a last-minute pledge by the Florida Marlins to cover the difference. Late Tuesday, County Manager George Burgess told commissioners that the effort to raise $306 million by issuing bonds backed by tourist taxes on Monday and Tuesday was off by $6.2 million. The reason for the shortfall, Burgess said, is that a portion of the bonds fetched a higher-than-expected interest rate, thereby reducing the proceeds to the county. ''It's been a long day,'' Burgess said. ``But we are awfully, awfully close.'' To fill the gap, Florida Marlins President David Samson told county commissioners Tuesday evening that the ballclub will pick up the $6.2 million difference. He pledged that the project will not be scaled back at all. ''My proposal is no change . . . other than the county's contribution is going down by $6 million,'' Samson said. But that change triggered questions over whether the revised deal between the county and baseball team required another vote by the city of Miami, the other partner in the stadium deal. The proposed change would also require county commissioners to amend a cap on the interest rate. County leaders previously said the bond interest rate could not be above 7.5 percent. But a portion of the bonds were priced by investors north of 8 percent. ''No one thought we would go above 7.5 percent. Now we are above that,'' said Commissioner Carlos Gimenez, a stadium critic. But the county manager was quick to say the higher interest on some bonds doesn't mean the county pays more for the stadium or changes the payment schedule. Still, uncertainty reigned. ''I am so confused,'' said Commissioner Barbara Jordan after a series of questions. By 9 p.m., the commission had yet to take a vote on the issue. The issue became so confusing -- and anxious -- that by 8:45, County Mayor Carlos Alvarez, one of the project's prime backers, appeared at County Hall -- likely to assauge any last-minute doubts. Construction had been scheduled to start on the stadium Wednesday, with a formal groundbreaking on July 18. It was unclear Tuesday evening if that schedule was still on pace. The stadium, eyed for opening day 2012, would have 37,000 seats and a retractable roof, representing the long-sought permanent home for a franchise that has won two World Series titles yet consistently struggles with among the lowest payrolls and attendance in baseball. The newest debate is the latest in a project that took more than a decade to win approval from the city and county, before those green lights came earlier this year. Advocates say the new facility will ensure the franchise's permanent home in South Florida.
  20. Wow. Saturday's game will be awesome, for many reasons. Don't forget the 25,000 cow bells being given out. I remember being at a Marlins-Yankees game at PPS 10 years ago when it was mouse pad night. A call went against the Yankees and mouse pads starting raining down onto the field.
  21. LOL.... I literally LOL when I saw this.... I don't think you would if you had Hollyberries of your own.
  22. This one deserves a caption Jorge Cantu took the notion of keeping his eye on the ball a little too far.

  24. Coughlin will join the team on Friday.... Tired of watching their offense continue to sputter, the Marlins are reaching down to their minor-league system in hopes of finding a fix. Chris Coghlan, one of the organization's top prospects, is being called up from Triple A New Orleans and will join the Marlins in Denver on Friday. As Bob Fortus of the New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting, Coghlan will take the roster spot belonging to pitcher Anibal Sanchez, who is headed to the disabled list after leaving Thursday's game with shoulder discomfort. Coghlan, 23, is a natural infielder who has split time this season between second and third base. But he started in left field for the Zephyrs on Thursday, a possible indication that the Marlins might tinker a little with him, perhaps as an occasional replacement for one of the team's three slumping outfielders: Cameron Maybin, Jeremy Hermida or Cody Ross. Coghlan could also spell time for either second baseman Dan Uggla or third baseman Emilio Bonifacio, both of whom are also struggling. As Marlins vice president of player personnel Dan Jennings told Fortus: "He's going to play some in the outfield and some at second base. He's one of those kids who has always had the knack to get the barrel to the ball, from high school to Ole Miss all the way through the system.'' Coghlan is swinging a hot bat for the Zephyrs, hitting .348 with three homers and 22 RBI in 92 at bats. Last season, Coghlan hit .298 at Double A Carolina and stole 34 bases. One American League scout told me that Coghlan is one of his favorite players to watch in the minors. 'I absolutely love him," the scout said. "I have a gut feel for him. He's going to hit. Defense is going to be average, but he's better than Uggla. This guy has got the potential to be an above-average second baseman, No. 2 hitter or a quality No. 8 hitter. I love the way he goes about the game. There's no downside to this kid." http://miamiherald.typepad.com/fish_bytes/...to-marlins.html
