Who's your Opening Day Starter? (Ver. 2)
I just read it somewhere, it might have been Joe Capozzi (PBP) that he was speculating (or hinting, who knows?) the reason why no announcement was "because he's not in camp", suggesting perhaps a trade was coming. Its more likely that this refers to Hendrickson, who flew to Los Angeles this weekend to be inducted into the Pac-10 basketball hall of fame. I read that Fredi delayed the announcement from yesterday because the pitcher wasnt there before they left for Ft. Myers, so he might have returned yesterday. Don't know why it wasnt announced today if it is him, though

Huizenga Sells 50% Share of Dolphins, Dolphin Stadium
Stephen Ross To Become A 50% Partner Of Dolphins, Stadium February 22, 2008 Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga announced today that Stephen M. Ross of New York and Palm Beach has become a 50% partner in the franchise, the stadium and the surrounding developable land. Mr. Ross is Chairman of the Related Companies, an international real estate development company. Mr. Huizenga will remain the Managing General Partner of the franchise, while Mr. Ross will be an active partner and has the opportunity to become the Managing General Partner in the future. Mr. Huizenga commented, "I have always said that I wanted to bring in a partner, and I can't think of anyone more appropriate than Steve. He has unbridled enthusiasm and I couldn't feel better about the future than I do with Steve as my partner and Bill Parcells running football operations." Mr. Ross added, "Having grown up in South Florida, Dolphins football has been a lifetime passion for me. I am energized by this opportunity and look forward to being able to once again watch the Dolphins win a Super Bowl alongside all the other loyal Dolphin fans." The transaction requires the approval of the National Football League. http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/...?contentID=5697

Deal for New Ballpark on Table
If you read the actual agreement (which apparently the Herald didnt take the time to), the county is not on the hook for more money. Its just a shifting a money from the city to the county that was part of the global agreement approved in December.

Deal for New Ballpark on Table
There have been a few changes in the agreement: New details in Marlins stadium deal BY CHARLES RABIN Miami-Dade County commissioners received the finalized version of a baseball stadium agreement for the Florida Marlins late Saturday night, leaving the team the closest it has been in its decade-long search for funding -- and the county on the hook for $98 million more than previously reported. The 94-page document, which was sent to commissioners by courier, still calls for tourist tax dollars to fund the majority of the $525 million plan that would place a ballpark at the site of what is now Little Havana's Orange Bowl. But it increases the county's share to $347 million. The city of Miami, on the other hand, is now only required to pony up $23 million -- $10 million of which would go toward the demolition of the Orange Bowl. The Marlins' share would come to $155 million, with the team required to pay $120 million upfront and the remainder in yearly rent payments of $2.3 million. Miami, though, is also required to spend $94 million on a 6,000-car parking garage. So while the county and city contributions have changed -- one rising, one falling -- the net public contribution remains the same. According to the document constructed by County Manager George Burgess, the team was allowed to lower its out-of-pocket contribution by agreeing to annual payments of $750,000 toward capital improvements -- one of the major sticking points during the two-month negotiations. Another sticking point: the Marlins' wish to have the county pay for office space in the downtown Miami area, wasn't completely ironed out. The contract simply says the county will help identify space. When complete, the natural-grass ballpark would have 37,000 seats, 3,000 club seats, 60 suites and a retractable roof to shield players and fans from South Florida's summer thunderstorms. The team also would agree to not relocate for 35 years, the length of the agreement. The county would own the stadium, and the Marlins would be responsible for construction cost overruns. The plan calls for a limited construction window, with groundbreaking expected in November, and the stadium complete in time for the Marlins to take the field Opening Day in April 2011. The Marlins lease at H. Wayne Huizenga-owned Dolphin Stadium runs out at the end of the 2010 season. ' With the deal finally complete after two-months of intense negotiations, all that remains for the Marlins to finally begin building the stadium team owners have fought for more than a decade is a vote by city of Miami and county commissioners. Both commissions have scheduled meetings Thursday to discuss and possibly vote on the financial package. The ballclub has also agreed to change its name to the Miami Marlins. As of late Saturday, Miami commissioners had not yet received the document. ''I was told they won't be able to deliver it [the stadium financing contract] today, but to be set for a briefing tomorrow [sunday], or Monday,'' said Miami Commissioner Tom?s Regalado. http://www.miamiherald.com/460/story/422379.html

Is That A Tailpipe or is Your Truck Just Happy to See Me?
RICHMOND, Va. - It's one thing to dangle fuzzy dice from a rear view mirror, but decorating a trailer hitch with a large pair of rubber testicles might be a bit much in Virginia. State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue because it could distract other drivers.Under his measure, displaying the ornamentation on a motor vehicle would be a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $250. He said the idea came from a constituent whose young daughter spotted an example of the trail hitch adornment and asked her father to explain it. "'I didn't know what to tell her,'" Spruill said the constituent told him before Spruill vowed to stop such displays. "I said, 'Sir, I'm going to be a laughingstock, but I'm going to do it,'" he said. The Virginia General Assembly has some experience with offbeat bills. Three years ago, it drew widespread attention with an unsuccessful effort to outlaw baggy pants worn so low they expose underwear. Spruill, 61, said the indignity of the "droopy drawers" debate wouldn't deter him. He said he won't hesitate to bring a set of $24.95 trailer testicles with him for a legislative show-and-tell. "I'm going to do it," Spruill told a handful of reporters after Tuesday's House session adjourned. "I'm going to bring them out here and show them to you till they tell me to stop." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080116/ap_on_...e5daGE1mbDtiBIF

Keep Your Hands Inside the Vehicle At All Times
CANBERRA (Reuters) - An Australian man who waved out of a car window at two young women was expected to lose his arm Monday after it was almost severed by another passing vehicle. The 20-year-old was a passenger in a pick-up truck at Bunbury, in Western Australia state, when he waved at two women in a car wash. But as he put his arm out the driver made a right hand turn and the man's limb was struck and almost torn off by an oncoming four-wheel-drive. "His left arm was partially severed and doctors believe the limb may need to be amputated," police said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080114/od_nm/...La_5QfxWOcSH9EA

The 2008 Tennis Thread
I used to have a HUGE crush on Monica Seles She's not your typical hottie but for some reason I thought she reeked sexy. To me she was the first womens power tennis player If you can believe it, this is what she looks like now:

The 2008 Tennis Thread
It's unfortunate tennis doesn't get as much recognition as it should. When I started seeing it in person is when I really started to appreciate it. For some reason, it just doesn't translate well to television. I'm looking forward to the Sony Ericsson Open on Key Biscayne. This will be my tenth year working there. I've even read a rumor that Monica Seles might try to play this year.

Computer Upgrade Questions
Coincidentally, I just bought memory from Crucial-couldnt be happier. Got 2 1GBs for my Dell Dimension and its like I have a new computer. The price at Crucial was a lot cheaper than anywhere else and I ordered it Tuesday, it was shipped from Idaho yesterday, and I got it this afternoon (and that was with the standard free shipping).
