1. There is plenty of time, but the Marlins can't keep losing to teams like the Expos. I really think these moves will help. They need to start playing like a playoff caliber team now though... Good things are coming... 488174 keyword: Now theres no time for the new players to get used being marlins they have to perform now
2. Marlins03 replied to Craig's topic in Miami Marlins
don't pigeonhole it into schuerholz vs. moneyball no matter how much stock you put in a stat like RBI, choi is a better offensive talent than juan encarnacion, hands down. a guy who sees .270 / .388 / .498 / 15 HR / 40 rbi (choi) versus .235 / .289 / .411 / 13 HR / 43 rbi (enc) and thinks choi is better offensively doesn't necessarily fall into the "moneyball" group. by the way, another peter gammons quote on the dodgers (yeah, it's worth jack, but its fun anyway): "they've replaced encarnacion with choi. upgraded seriously there." 488155 Encarnacion=overrated ever since he started putting good numbers in cincy, and he became really overrated after last year
3. CJ sucks though. its arguable whether or not they would of done well in teh playoffs. they only have the what 3rd best record in baseball? 488079 yeah but CJ was the best replacement he thought he could get for Lo Duca although I fail to see how a guy who struggles at coors can do much better at Dodger stadium, and Randy would have done wonders for the rotation, but I think LA's GM(cant spell his name) is overated he was supposed to be a genius and so far hes being far from that.
4. When does valdez start? 488043 I think it'll be tuesday
5. i dont like the trade still. but when the emotion wears off. i think i'll like it in the long run. 488004 Same here, I really miss Penny and I was really liking Choi, but Hopefully it will all work out.
6. the dodgers are stupid. i have yet to truly figure out what they have just done and/or why they essentially blew that team up. 487993 I think it was because they felt they would not win with that team in the playoffs but it all totally blew up in the faces when they could not land the big unit and CJ
7. yea the braves cant go on much longer, they have been lucky, with chipper and andruw jones sucking they got no talent, just some rooks, giles is injury bound, hampton has been a cagar, they will fall apart soon, but we have to play better wit them and other teams like the expos for one 488006 what the hell? :plain 488011 is true, everything just going right for them right now I hope that ends soon if not beinfest didnt do too little, but he did it too late I hope that that dosent become the case
8. now that everything is over with the trades and the new guys are here we will start to role tomorrow. hopefully the mets can actually win a game. JP Castillo Lo Duca------ :thumbup Lowell Cabrera Conine Encarnacion Gonzo Pavano We will Win!!!!!! Tomorrow 488002 I like it, but I would switch Sea Bass and Encarnacion
9. Anyone else notice this.. Bagwell, Kent, Biggio, all not in the Astros lineup? And Pettitte got scratched and DO got the spot start. I know it says Pettitte wasn't "ready" to start, but looks really weird. 486920 Fire Sell????
10. Dodgers were stuck with him and in first place... 486903 They have a better offense than us. 486906 we now have five guys hitting over .300 and alex and niner have being heating up
11. Dodgers were stuck with him and in first place... 486903 thats a very good point
12. I hope we get Walker, I dont want to be stuck with Encarnacion
13. The waiver deadline is still in the future, we can still make moves this month 486866 I agree I doubt anyone in their right mind would pickup Walker in waivers, maybe Boston will, but I doubt it.
14. Hes likle a righty specialist almost. Rightys cant touch him (.189 ERA against righties in last 3 years) 486731 good thing theres alot of rightys then. :thumbup
15. Interesting to note - Nunez was rumored to be included in that Walker deal.? But recent reports have re-surfaced that the Walker deal is back on...I wonder what is going on.? Something is happening. 486643 Maybe the marlins will ship Encarnacion Seanez and a minor leaguer for Walker 486662 i doubt it seanez is worthless to the rockies, he is old you could be on to something if you said nate bump or ben howard though 486672 Maybe is Nate Bump, he Would be PERFECT for the rockies their looking for all the skinkerballers they can get their hands on
16. on another note is good to see our bullpen is now one of the best because now that we lost penny they will become tha very important and the pen cant keep blowing leads for the 4 guys that remain
17. Interesting to note - Nunez was rumored to be included in that Walker deal. But recent reports have re-surfaced that the Walker deal is back on...I wonder what is going on. Something is happening. 486643 Maybe the marlins will ship Encarnacion Seanez and a minor leaguer for Walker
18. Lo Duca is a Fudge Rodriguez type of hitter. He has some pop and an ability to make contact and drive the ball the other way. Plus, he has some base speed. I think he is going to fare very well for the Marlins - but I think we gave up an awful lot. 486295 I agree I think Beinfest should have given up Stokes instead of Choi or should have kept Murphy
19. If the marlins are looking at Valdez they might as well try and get Estes from Colorado
20. He'll be back!! 485710 that picture is that reason why im going to miss him he was such a competitor(sp) and late in 03 and into the playoffs that man step into the mound determined to win and he carry that over to this season, I hope he comes back to us when he becomes a Free Agent in 05.
21. Mota without a doubt. With him and Benitez at the end every game is a done deal when he a lead heading to the eight, now we dont only have the one of the best if not the best close in baseball this year but also the best setup man thats awsome. And next year when armando walks we'll still have a great pen with Mota and Spooney and who knows maybe koch will come back and sign for about 800,000 or something like that.
22. He was bad defensively you must be kidding this guy is was just as good as making picks as d.lee, yeah he had limited range but thats why most 1b play 1b in the first place, becuause their slow, but Choi played awsome defense
23. Well, I finally have something to smile about today. Tankersley went 3 innings giving up 0 hits 0 walks and 5 K's. 485596 Impressive :thumbup Good to know we still have talent in the farm system even if it is at the rookie level, this kid could be at the AA level as soon as next year.
24. well, al im just wondering if the FO plans to resign any of these pick ups...becuase if they dont this is a watse almost. 485581 not if they win the World Series. What diffrence does it make if you win now or in the future as long as you win? Im sure the FO would rather repeat because of the Stadium deal so this trade could help our future because it pretty much secures the stadium deal.
25. IS that deal going to go down?? I heard it tonight and would love to see it happen, even if we did lose Stokes. 485330 IMO a better trade would be Walker for Encarnacion, Nunez and Castro. 485423 That could happen because remember that those three guys would be playing in Coors and that will make them that much better, and if you add a prospect we could probably get Colorado to pay a large amount of the contract.
