What's up guys
Many here do not know me, but I'm the old school JP75sbs. From the original Flamarlins.com boards. Yes, when there were only 5 of us back in the day. Ramp, efac, Keys, Wild Card when he was 12 years old, and I don't even remember who else. Wow, that was a while ago. So yes, do not think I am a newbie! I know a thing or two. It's great to be back and hopefully we can have some great topics made. Some info about me for all that don't know already I'm an Architecture student finishing up at the UNIVERSITY OF FLO-RIDA (National Champs Football 96/06, Basketball 06 & 07), I hope to design the Marlins Stadium, hopefully 25 years from now. I love baseball, played some college ball and now I just follow it on the internet. I'm a facebook whore So, yes that is all

Delmon Young to the Twins
This trade is essentially equal it seems, but I'd have to side with the twins on this one. Pitchers are usually riskier than hitters in getting injured (arm problems) and panning out (walks, whip). Delmon Young was a #1 pick and is going to be a great hitter for many years (hes going to be consistant). Garza, while having tremendous stuff as well, is a little further back in developing in the big league level than Young is. Garza is also a pitcher (more of an injury risk), while Young is a hitter, and Young is a better prospect. I'd give Young a great edge here. As for the SS: Harris had less errors, is a year younger and can play multiple positions. He just doesnt have experience under his belt and consistancy as Bartlett does. Bartlett had a horrendous 26 errors compared to Harris' 11. Bartlett is mediocre as a starting shortstop and thats been proved the past 3 years. Hes a bench player and so is Harris. I'd give the upperhand to Harris since he'd be more useful as a bench player, (power, avg, multipositional, decent defense, spot starter) Although Garza has a chance to be great, Minnesotta robbed Tampa here. Depending if Garza can stay healthy (arm wise), lower his whip and which SS can remain consistant in the future, time will tell who got the better hand.

Robb Nen
His tenure with the Marlins was essentially the same length it was with the Giants. Maybe a tad shorter in Florida but pretty negligible. I'd say a Giant because all three of his All Star Game appearances were with them. He got the ring in Florida but I imagine that would be overlooked. Great point, the 1997 team will forever carry the stigma of the firesale around with them. Time has not been friendly to the 97 Marlins. Robb still had a couple great seasons including one great season with the Marlins. He helped secure the 97 win and that itself holds more than a couple AS appearances. If he goes in (which will be almost impossible), it will be with the Fish. It would be interesting where Robb stands in career saves compared to other great closers, (since the closer position is something relatively new). Closers usually have short careers it seems, so depending where he stands on the career saves list, he might have a better chance than we think. *edit* 1. Trevor Hoffman (39) 524 R 2. Lee Smith 478 R 3. Mariano Rivera (37) 443 R 4. John Franco* 424 L 5. Dennis Eckersley+ 390 R 6. Jeff Reardon 367 R 7. Billy Wagner* (35) 358 L 8. Randy Myers* 347 L 9. Rollie Fingers+ 341 R 10. John Wetteland 330 R 11. Roberto Hernandez (42) 326 R 12. Troy Percival (37) 324 R 13. Jose Mesa (41) 321 R 14. Rick Aguilera 318 R 15. Robb Nen 314 Robb stands 15 all time, with the closest HOF'er in Rollie Fingers at #9. Rollie had a career ERA of 2.90 and Robb 2.98 John Wettleland is the only other respectable closer past #9 (Randy Myers has a high ERA) to have a good ERA (2.93) and be on the top 15. If he makes it, then Robb should. Robb also has 2 WS appearances and 11 post season saves. After looking all this up, I believe he makes it eventually

Reds want Penny
The reds need pitching but they cost too uch but they have in mind some cheap names and one of them is Penny. Esteban Loaiza of the White Sox, Brad Penny of the Florida Marlins, and Sidney Ponson of Baltimore. Penny is attractive because he's only 25 and makes $1.85 million. He is 5-5 with a 4.07 ERA. Ponson makes $4.3 million and is a free agent after the season. He is 9-4 with a 3.93 ERA. To get a Penny or a Ponson, the Reds would likely have to give up top minor league talent. "A lot of people around baseball really like our minor league guys," said Johnny Almaraz, a special assistant to Bowden. Brad Penny, Marlins 2003: 5-5, 4.07 ERA Career: 31-29, 4.23 ERA Fast fact: Has finished over .500 in each of his three major league seasons. Salary: $1.8 million Link penny will not go to the red unless they give something big. We have cabs in LF and he seems to be the real deal. Id like to see penny only go over there in a deal for dunn. say no to guillen, and smitheran is untouchable. BTW this is no secret.. reds have wanted penny for a while. and about 2 months ago i proposed to reds fans something with penny for dunn and they said we dont want penny hes going to be another injured dempster lol.. reds fans have no prob aquiring him now though... at least it seems

One Big Question, No Answer ... Yet
JPierre, Castillo will most likely finish like he always does. When eh goes into a slump, it ain't for long. He is one of if not our most consistant bat. He'll have his . 310 average, career high 4 HR's, 30+ SB's, 80 runs scored, 180 hits, ect... He'll get $6 Mill a year from someone... ARE YOU CRAZY!!!??? :w00t Castillo cant RUN. Take a stop watch !!!!!!! he runs slower than pierre, lee, encarnacion FOR SURE. He and Pudge are back to back on times to first. I forgot the exact time but I remember it was more than a 4. his hip is not the only thing hurting him , its his weight as well. Id be surprised if he stole 5 more bases. His avg is going down the toilet. take a look at what hes done against the mediorcre rays and mets.. and even before that. you are dreaming WC.. hes not the same as he was before.. not even close. He did have added wieght last year and he was 175 the year before. but it didnt effect him as much as now. he wont steal 30 and he'll hover around .300 if lucky.. he cant beat out the IF grouders anymore. last year he had close to 30 of those and if he cant beat them out he would have batted no where near what he did last year.

Front Office Deserves Credit
JPierre75sbs it look like you have no clue what your talkin about in all due respect Floyd deal as of right now is one -sided break it down Pavano/ Levinski for Floyd is a good trade Mordecai for Wilton G. was also good trade Vargas for Wayne flat out blows "Vargas was a mediocre minor leaguer and is playing above his head right now." *WHAT? he was our top pitching prospect once Beckett jumped to the show. This kid is putting it all together right now. A plus 95mph fastball, good change-up, and nice lookin curve. The kid was a steal for the Spos, that shouldn't have been included in this deal. "MILLAR TRADE - without that trade no redman, no hollandsworth... even though I could do without TH. Millar is also playing in Boston and DHing. his numbers would be alot less with the fish. costing us games at LF too. EVEN TRADE" *Don't agree if the Marlins had a little better vision they would have dump V.Nunez and keep Millar.Hollandsworth should have never been signed and Banks/Millar rotation in LF would have been Ok by me and once Lee was trade in mid-season they would have just pug Millar at 1B. "TRADE HAMPTON TO ATL IS THE BEST THING WE COULD DO. without that we would be in dead last and firesale would be sure to happen. " Agree BUT the Marlins showed there hand too early and it cost them. When Hampton flat out told them he wasn't coming and they were put on the clock to make a deal. The braves raped them a Spoon for Hampton deal with the Marlins taken his salary for two years.... Su@ks The Marlins with a little more time could have gotten a better deal from the Braves or somewhere else. JMO..... *Don't agree if the Marlins had a little better vision they would have dump V.Nunez and keep Millar.Hollandsworth should have never been signed and Banks/Millar rotation in LF would have been Ok by me and once Lee was trade in mid-season they would have just pug Millar at 1B. thing is, nothings perfect.. theres always a few guys that bust and play for more than theyre worth.. its a good thing TH and vladimir are not encarnacion and looper or someting. Agon is picking up the slack for both TH and vladimir together. Nobody envisioned him doing what he is doing as well. and for 1.7 mil.

One Big Question, No Answer ... Yet
If Lowell goes or doesn't go, Castillo is still gone. It would be a pretty inexperienced team of future talent... The pitching would carry the team to . 500 all season... BTW, castillos avg has been dropping.. hes not going to get anywhere near 7 mil in free agency. look what happened to floyd when he went out there. if luis is hitting .295 with 18 sbs by the time the season finishes.. hes not getting more than 5 mil. The only reason why he wont getmore than 3 mil if he gets those stats when season ends, is because the reds need a leadoff.

Jpierre, enough with insulting other users. Its enough already, and its not funny. If you want to do that, go back to the mlb board, where they like that kind of stuff. why dont you tell them to stop with the retarded posts. they just want their # if posts to go high because they think its some kind of contest. They deserve to be called idiots and morons.

One Big Question, No Answer ... Yet
I agree that he wont get signed for more than 3 years....but I dont want to end up in the same position we are now. Yah, what if this year is somewhat of a fluke....but the question is...what if he is really getting progressively better. I mean last year he was an All Star. He was even leading the voting for a little bit. This year he's turned doubles into HRs. it might be a fluke, but he always had what it takes to hit 30 homers. the point is , hes a possible 30 hr guy when healthy. point is out of like 5 years in the majors his career high was 24. now he has 23 its not even half way through. its good to seem him leading the league but this is the last year he ever will. if you think hes a 40-50 guy you are dead wrong. especially with the fish.
-
One Big Question, No Answer ... Yet
it might be best to sign him for one deal. Wow. So wrong... Its better for 1 year if possible because then we can see if hes worth the big money since i never thought Lowell would ever hit more than 35 homers in a year.. hes leading the leaugue in homers and i dont think he will in his career ever again.. hes not taht type of hitter.. things are just going his way right now. It isn't what you though that matters. Lowell has always had huge signs of huge power potential. 44 doubles last year is an example. This year he could have 40 HR's 40 doubles. But no, all those doubles he hit last year off the wall or the scoreboard are just going a little higher, turning into HR's. Just like what will eventually happen to Cabs. He will be worth every penny of the long-term deal he signs, dispite who he signs it with.it is best to sign him 1 year. but thats impossible. hes a 30 HR guy at average and below average hes a 25 homer guy. if youre expecting lowell to be a 40 homer guy for years to come you are a bit naive. it all depends on next season. Id like to see them sign him for 2-3 years on a fair deal. as in fair.. thats no more than 7 mill a year. hes worth NO more than that, especially with all these con artists going around the league. (everybody in the mets)

One Big Question, No Answer ... Yet
it might be best to sign him for one deal. that is if you say after the arbitration.. i doubt anybody would sign a 1 year deal as a FA such as Lowell. hes going to go with th e longest biggest contract available.. maybe take a discount at home.. but not much.. just pennies. Its better for 1 year if possible because then we can see if hes worth the big money since i never thought Lowell would ever hit more than 35 homers in a year.. hes leading the leaugue in homers and i dont think he will in his career ever again.. hes not taht type of hitter.. things are just going his way right now. i dont think the fish would sign him for more than 3 years though.. at most. and thats because of the mets

I believe Scott Sanders (who is 34) lasted a few years as a starter for the Padres. How hard is it for someone who has been a starter his entire career to move to the bullpen? Put me in the category that believes losing Borland was not a "huge" blow. I believe he had more BB's than K's, and I don't think he had pitched many innings to that point. wow i didn t think sanders was that old.. thats why marlins are hesitant to bring him up .. hes another borland at best

Hey JPierre... First off, go buy a dictionary...... I never said that Almanza was horrible, just streaky.... You need to get off Bobby V.'s jock with all that "Almanza is the best lefty out of the pen in the league" crap. He's above average when he's on, and a train wreck when he's off. And right now, he's a train wreck about 60 percent of the time. Or maybe you are impressed with his world-beater stats.... 4-4 with a 4.93 ERA. And he's given up more hits than IP. Sorry, not impressed. he is the best lefty in the pen.. any lefty hitter would be sh*t scared to face him since lefty hitters are used to either facing hard rightys or soft throwing leftys. EVERY TEAM WOULD LIKE ALMANZA IN THEIR PEN. you have to live and die with almanza. what other lefty do you use? levrault? BTW levrault is playing above his head right now. this guy is going to blow up sooner or later and if almanza is gone then all you got is soft throwing leftys with phelps and levrault.. and that works against the team. you have to have a mixture of different types of pitchers. i bet you were the same guy B*tching about alf and clement last year but are PRAISINT WILLIS THIS YEAR.. go back to the expos board from wher e you came from.

Grilli serves one purpose.... Sweeten the pot as a throw in on a possible trade. TRUE.. HES GOING TO BE THE NEXT VARGAS, OZUNA ON THE NEXT TRADE.

Another arm that could help later in the season?
Ryan Leaf was drafted 1st... What's your point? MY POINT IS HE NEEDS MORE TIME YOU MORON. DUUUUHHHHH WTF ELSE COULD BE MY POINT BTW HE HAS A 12-6 CURVEBALL. NICE . HIS FASTBALL IS 88 MPH BUT HE NEEDS TO LEARN TO LOCATE IT LIKE PAVANO IN ORDER TO BECOME GOOD. HE NEEDS TIME THATS WHAT THE f888KK IS MY POINT.

i say trade almanza and tejera, so they do good, and you people can eat yourself for being ignorant, and not knowing what your losing. It seems like the common answer offered on the board is to trade an underperforming player. Trade Almanza, trade Tejera, trade H-Worth, trade Lee, etc... The problem is no one will give the Marlins anything for them. Trading is not a blanket answer to all the problems on the roster. MARK MY WORDS: IF ALMANZA WAS LIMITED TO MORE LEFTHANDED HITTERS HE WOULD BE ONE OF THE BEST RELIEVERS IN THE LEAGUE Yeah, and if I was limited to facing blind 80 year old women I would be one of the best in the league, too. What percentage of MLB sticks are lefties? 10 percent, maybe? The fact is, we have to make due with what we have. Face it, it could be alot worse. Just accept that Almanza (and the rest of the pen, for that matter) is feast or famine. Sure, they'll blow up every now and again, but there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. :banghead :banghead HEY BONEHEAD you know nothing about how valuable a quality lefty can be in the majors. EVERY TEAM, YES EVERY TEAM, EVEN THE CUBS. WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ALMANZA IN THEIR BULLPEN P.S. did i mention youre an idiot?

Denny Bautista make the the Future Games
No the door is not open for lowell to move just because of cabrera. I REPeAT THE MARLINs WILL NOT TRADE LOWELL JUST BEcAUSE CABRERA PLAYS 3rd. Smitheran is virtually untouchable. They say hes going to be better than dunn. hes like 6-7 265 or something.. HUGE.. bigger than dunn

Wayne might be good if he gets his stuff togther... from what i saw his stuff sucks but still he was drated 5th overall

Bring up Scott Sanders who has a 1.79 ERA in Tripple A send down ethier Almanza or Tejera..... For one, they're right. Almanza and Tejera ain't goin' nowhere. Second, how old is this Sanders kid? There must be a reason he hasn't gotten the call... sanders has been with cubs and indians if i recall correctly.. he aint no kid. maybe in his later 20s .. hes had like 1 good year with the cubs but was a huge bust after that. He might be MLB worthy right now though.. Beinfest is probably thinking hes playing above his head and MLB hitters will bash him.
