1. Become a Dolphins fan.? :plain 777981 i'd rather root for the yankees than the dolphins 778083 I'd rather turn to soccer than root for the garbageman's team! :thumbdown
2. Good Article.. I hope we can get this stadium deal done, I dont know what I am going to do without the Marlins! 777776 Watch the Rays?.... :whistle
3. We are much further along than the Twins. The tax was already approved by voters and the state back in the 80's when they built the Miami Arena. It is a 2% Professional Sports Sales Tax. We also will see Dade County put in some money from the 1% Convention Development Tax. The City will pay its share using the profits from the proposed garages. The Marlins will use their rent payments to pay the county for their share. All that is missing is the $30 million that they state would fill by granting the $60 million tax rebate over 30 years at $2 million a year. 763583 Cape, you know something we don't? So far this week all news are negative.
4. This sucks...XM has the Braves telecast today......I hate Caray....
5. guys i just read this from the miami herald.... Posted on Wed, May. 04, 2005 ? FLORIDA SPORTS BUZZ Loria faces tough decision Unless the state Senate pulls a big surprise and approves the Marlins' stadium funding package by the end of the legislative session Friday, owner Jeffrey Loria faces the most difficult decision of his professional life. Does he move the team, likely to Las Vegas? Or does he change his mind and chip in the final $30 million in funding to keep the team here? If the state does not deliver by Friday, look for MLB to give the Marlins the go-ahead to speak with other cities. We have also learned that Las Vegas has emerged as baseball's top choice among markets seeking teams, with Monterrey, Mexico, and Charlotte, N.C., less likely options. Vegas needs a stadium, and MLB believes there would be adequate funding for one. MLB president Robert DuPuy and the Marlins declined to discuss relocation. DuPuy said loaning or giving the Marlins the final funding piece ``has not been suggested or considered.'' Four scenarios to save the $420 million project: ? The city or county increasing its contributions. Both say they won't. The county, whose $138 million contribution includes $78 million from hotel bed taxes, has had a good year in tourist revenue, but hasn't produced nearly enough above projections to cover the remaining $30 million. Is there a way to salvage the deal without state help? ''I'm not a quitter. I never give up,'' Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, lobbying for state money in Tallahassee this week, said Tuesday. ``I'm still convinced we can get state [help].'' ? Loria increasing his $192 million piece. President David Samson has said Loria's contribution, the fourth-highest in pro sports, is as far as he will go. Forget a rich businessman buying a piece of the team and covering the final $30 million -- none has emerged, and the Marlins aren't courting any. ? Eliminating the dome or the retractable element to save money. The Marlins won't consider either. ? Reducing the cost of the project from $420 million to $390 million by cutting corners. The team, which has vowed to cover cost over-runs, has said that's unrealistic. The Marlins, contractually bound to Dolphins Stadium through 2006, remain disinterested in forging a new long-term lease with Wayne Huizenga. its not looking good if we don't get that damn stadium deal done...... 762728 Let's see how the politicians try to explain how they lost an MLB franchise after all the effort that the State went through to get the franchise awarded back in the late 80's.
6. Yeah, the piece was meant to poke fun at Nascar. 762714 What about the part about the Marlins already receiving one tax break? What about the part that bashes the stadium location? 762715 Where does it say that? Show me where it says that and I'll believe you. 762717 Sorry, I accidentally deleted this part on my original post. If it is not hate, then tell me what it is. NASCAR, Marlins money married The problem is that the NASCAR money is tucked away inside an apparently doomed boondoggle aimed at helping the indigent Florida Marlins. The Marlins, who already get a paltry $60 million subsidy from the state, want another $60 million so the team can build a new baseball stadium farther from the majority of its fan base. The new ballpark will stimulate the economy, particularly in gasoline sales, and driveway parking fees collected by Little Havana residents. To make the Marlins' deal more palatable, lawmakers had to also hand out goodies to other sports operations across the state ?tossing out millions in tax breaks to the Orlando Magic basketball team, four baseball spring training sites, and NASCAR's would-be museum. The bill sailed through the state House last week, but has gotten bogged down in the Senate, where it may die from the collected heft of its largesse
7. Yeah, the piece was meant to poke fun at Nascar. 762714 What about the part about the Marlins already receiving one tax break? What about the part that bashes the stadium location? Yes, the article was written in a funny way, but it is also written in a very negative way towards the stadium.
8. Commentary: Don't let NASCAR museum out of Florida By Frank Cerabino Palm Beach Post Columnist Wednesday, May 04, 2005 It looks like the NASCAR museum is in trouble. I've got a suggestion. But first, let's all agree that whatever tax break is necessary to put a NASCAR museum in Florida is well worth it. At this point, we need a NASCAR museum just to make us look smarter, and to provide some relief from the state's other pressing business, which lately has been to prevent a 13-year-old state ward from getting the abortion she wants. Clearly, we need to get back on track. The state's already paying subsidies for fishing and golf museums, so it makes sense to add NASCAR ? unless, of course, bowling opens up. For just $1.2 million a year for a mere 25 years, we can claim the national hall of fame and museum for America's... um, loudest ... sport. Also, spending public money to promote for-profit stock car racing is a great companion piece of legislation to the national effort to gut public financing for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which airs the kind of high-brow, soft-spoken programming that does nothing but make people dangerously more educated. If Florida doesn't pay for a NASCAR museum and hall of fame in Daytona Beach, some other state will. Charlotte, N.C.; Richmond, Va.; Kansas City, Kan.; and Atlanta have all expressed interest in the racing museum. We need to get busy. NASCAR, Marlins money married The problem is that the NASCAR money is tucked away inside an apparently doomed boondoggle aimed at helping the indigent Florida Marlins. To make the Marlins' deal more palatable, lawmakers had to also hand out goodies to other sports operations across the state ?tossing out millions in tax breaks to the Orlando Magic basketball team, four baseball spring training sites, and NASCAR's would-be museum. The bill sailed through the state House last week, but has gotten bogged down in the Senate, where it may die from the collected heft of its largesse. NASCAR needs to break from the pack by highlighting its payback plan. Proponents of the museum claim that sales of a NASCAR specialty license plate in Florida would offset the subsidy. After all, who wouldn't want to extol the virtues of racing on their vehicle? License plate popularity is key At $25 a license plate, 48,000 Floridians would have to drive around with race car license plates in order to pay back the subsidy. Is this likely? That would mean the NASCAR license plate would be the eighth-most popular specialty license plate in the state ? behind the panther, wild dolphin, manatee, sea turtle, University of Florida, Florida State University and the Challenger. The NASCAR plate would have to be more popular than the Choose Life plate, which is on 41,795 vehicles in the state. Could be a problem, considering overlap. So to save the NASCAR museum, legislators may have to take the next step, and rent out their bodies for sponsorships, NASCAR-style. It's the only sure way to pay for the tax break. Like human race cars, the lawmakers' business suits could be covered with the logos of their campaign contributors. Yes, it would be a little tacky, but we've crossed that bridge long ago. :mad
9. I heard that things are going OK now at the state legislature. It was mentioned on the "Descarga Deportiva" radio show in spanish (670 AM @ 6pm weekdays). No details were given, but they are getting signature from fans at the stadium yesterday and today and they are going to Tallahasee to interview the local state rep and senators. They will take questions from the radio audience. 752331 I hope they're right about that. I have faith that the Marlins will be able to secure a stadium deal. On another note, I am getting sick and tired of South Florida constantly getting screwed over by those northern rednecks. They wield way too much power and we don't have enough representation up there. One would have thought that Jeb, being from South Florida, would provide a little bit more support for us in the southern part of the state. We should break away from Florida and become a new state. Call it South Florida. Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. It's an idea that should be thrown around more often. 752346 Yeah....I'm sure that the people from Palm Beach and Broward will jump right into it...... :whistle

What ever happend to freedom of speech?? :whistle ? :shifty 751053 When you go and pose sitting in an enemy anti-air battery, bash your contry, give the sign of victory to the enemy, and pose alongside American POW's it's no longer freedom of speech, it becomes treason. Maybe you should mention that to your communist teachers in school. 751071 Maybe I'll say this just for you.... I'M ON THE SIDE OF THE GUY WHO SPIT ON HER FACE. :mad My Dad is a Vietnam vet, so who's side do you think I'm going to be on?? 751080 Sorry man, just wanted to be sure you knew what she had actually done. You never know with some of the people who post here.... :thumbup

12. As I was reading it I kept getting this image in my head of the poor little girl holding on to that stuffed toy, just hoping for some miracle to happen. Really broke my heart. Made me hate that guy even more.
13. I don't know if this has been posted, but it really made me sick. This guy deserves the worst. Prosecutors: Lunsford Raped, Buried Alive Wednesday, April 20, 2005 TAMPA, Fla. ? A 9-year-old girl was raped, bound and buried alive, kneeling and clutching a purple stuffed dolphin, state prosecutors said in documents released Wednesday. Jessica Lunsford's (search) body was found March 19 buried about 150 yards from her house in Homosassa, about 60 miles north of Tampa. According to the documents, Jessica was found wearing shorts and a shirt ? different from the pink nightgown her family said she was wearing when they reported her missing Feb. 24, The Tampa Tribune said in its online edition late Wednesday. The body was wrapped in two plastic trash bags knotted at her head and feet in a grave covered by a mound of leaves, the state attorney's office said in the documents. Jessica died of asphyxiation, according to a coroner's report. A convicted sex offender,John Evander Couey (search), 46, is charged in her slaying. Officials said they believe Jessica may have been alive in Couey's home while police and volunteers searched for her. After she was killed, Couey fled to Georgia.
14. He was forced into the Nazi army. he deserted before the end of war. He says he never killed a Jew, hard to beleive, he was a Nazi. 749113 What do you really mean? Please pick one: A) ...hard to beleive, hewas a Nazi. B) ....hard to beleive he was a Nazi. Are you saying it is hard to beleive he never killed a Jew or are you saying it is hard to beleive he was a Nazi? That comma in the sentence is making it confusing.

16. Florida House passes Jessica bill, lifetime monitoring of some criminals The Associated Press Posted April 19 2005, 5:38 PM EDT TALLAHASSEE -- With the abduction and murder of yet another child fresh in their minds, members of the House unanimously passed a bill Tuesday to give certain sex criminals either life sentences or lifetime satellite tracking after they get out of prison. Named the Jessica Lunsford Act after a 9-year-old Homosassa girl who was abducted and killed -- allegedly by a sex offender-- the measure still needs approval from the Senate, which is considering similar legislation. House passed the bill two days after another sex offender was charged in the abduction and murder of 13-year-old Sarah Lunde of Ruskin. The bill (HB 1877) would set a mandatory sentence of 25 years to life in prison for people convicted of molesting children under 12 years old. If the person serves less than life, their prison time would be followed by monitoring by global positioning system for the rest of their life. Jessica Lunsford's father Mark, who also helped look for Sarah Lunde while she was missing, was at the Capitol as lawmakers took up the bill named for his daughter. He was pushing for that legislation and another bill that would get tough on probation violators. about f'n time!!!! :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy
17. apparently the germans don't even like him anymore. der spiegel did a poll that found that more germans opposed him being pope than supported him. 747862 That's interesting...did they say why? 747994 because he is a loon? 747995 Please explain why you think he is a loon. 748040 because of his views. and the fact that even his countrymen do not like him. 748115 The liberal Germans don't like a Conservative??? Are you serious? What do you mean "because of his views"? You do realize that the leader of the Church is not there to lower standards just to please people? 748419 its not about 'lowering standards' its about making modern sense. 748474 Like what? Accept abortion? Accept homosexuals? I'm pretty sure the new Pope will deal with the scandals. You don't change traditional values to please a minority.
18. BTW, I like the Health Savings Account. you pay a low monthly premium for High Deductable Insurance and put money in a tax-free Health Savings Account. Here is a great article from the Governor on this: http://www.myflorida.com/myflorida/documen...ush06-25-04.pdf We are seriously looking at doing this in our house. I was checking out that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida offers it now. Looking pretty good. http://www.bcbsfl.com/index.cfm?fuseaction...ngsAccount.home 748485 Those savings accounts are pretty good.
19. I know that about the Canadian system. I think that we should have a system of basic clinics that people can walk into and pay a small copay. If you have a cold, they can prescribe antibiotics. If you have to get some shots you can get them. What if the US Government started an insurance plan that everyone had access to, was basic, had basic copays of no more than $35, and was payed for by a .5 cent national sales tax? 748424 There already are public clinics that do all those things you do. I'm for some kind of public healthcare for children (not teens who chose to get pregnant) and the elderly that's it. Adults can take care of themselves. People should know that if they chose not to get an education, they will not find a job with benefits. I'm not willi to pay for healthcare for irresponsible smokers, women who think they are baby factories, etc. Now if you put universal healthcare, what about illegal immigrants? You willing to pay for their healthcare too? This is a capitalist country, and I don't want to sound like a jerk, but if you cannot take care of yourself, that is your problem. Do not take any of this personal Cape. I think you do a great job in this site. :thumbup

21. Another comment Cape. The damn thing does not works in Canada either. YOu know many CAnadians actually come to the US to get their medical treatment? Do you know that in Canada you have to wait months and sometimes years to get your procedures done?
22. btw cape, if youre between options 2 and 3, why did you vote for #4? 748155 I have not voted. Edit: Just voted for option #2 748160 No Way. I'm not willing to have 60 or 70% of my paycheck taxed to pay for this. Because you know, it is the people who work who will pay for this. Where do you think the government will get the money for it?
23. Ruh roh, BBC is hinting around that he was schooled under the Youth for Hitler thing. 748077 For what I have heard today, he was drafted to serve the German Army during the war but deserted because he did not beleived in Hitler's policies.
24. Good information. About Miggy in 3rd, youre only asking for a headache. He doesnt have the agility and speed to pick up where he left off so long ago. 747983 Yeah, I'm sure you are a very educated fan who's carefully studied his scouting reports and is very well informed of his physical agilities...... :whistle 748002 stfu with judging me if you dont even know me. Get the f*** outta here, its pretty obvious that Cabrera isnt capable of playing 3rd base. It has been mentioned thousands of times. 748021 And I see that you are also very capable of having a civilized conversation and presenting arguments... That some people express an opinion stating that they don't think that the guy is able to play a position does not mean in any way that it is a fact. There are also plenty of opinions going the other way.
