  1. Actually 3 years in the league. Actually 4 plus years in the league. Drew played in 104 games in 1999. 2003 is his 5th year, and will be a FA after the 2004 season.
  2. yes By the way, apparently there is a freaky 4 team deal with STL-Boston-Oakland and I forget the fourth one in the works for Drew, but it seems to be collapsing. Is the 4th team Toronto? There's been a lot of talk about a 3 way between Oaklan/Toronto/St. Louis concerning Drew and Escobar.
  3. i got my info from Fox..... one of the guys had spoken with someone important earlier today Thanks! I was wondering, because I hadn't heard anything about the Cards pulling Drew from the table. I've heard just the opposite, and it sounds like several teams are very interested in him.
  4. the Cards reportedly pulled the DL Drew deal back because of Edmonds questionable health Ramp, Where did you hear this? Edmonds is hurt, but Drew can't really fill in for him because he can't play everyday. There is a poster on the Cards forum that seems to have sources within the Cards FO. He said that there's a good possibility that the Cards will trade for Suppan, but there other deals on the table as well.
  5. And in Florida, I bet you Drew plays in 150+ games consistently. La Russa oversubs this guy and for some reason doesnt let him play enough. This is a good risk...and frankly, if the Marlins make this happen they will have pulled off one of the most unbelievable make-overs any team in HISTORY has undergone. And they only did it in one season... Drew? 150 games? :lol :lol In a span of 3 years maybe.
  6. I know he's been on the DL a lot but I forget what he was on for. Can anybody refresh me on Drews injuries, anything chronic? Drew suffered the same type of knee injury that eneded McGwire's career. The Cards were optomistic though becuase Drew is much younger than McGwire was.
  7. He was rushed up IMO because hes Loria's pet project. Another full season in the minors and he will be a very solid #4 starter. Unfortunately Larussa would probably do the same thing. Dan Haren was rushed to the Majors out of desperation as well, but is doing well so far.
  8. It's possible the Marlins will have to find a way to funnel a second big-league arm to St. Louis to balance the deal. This is what intrigues me. Would the Marlins trade another "big league arm" or would this turn into some kind of 4 way deal.
  9. Could we include Hollandsworth in the deal? We could ship his lefty bat and remaining contract on to St. Louis. He might actually be a good fit coming off the bench in St. Louis. I'm probably dreaming, but... I hope you're just dreaming
  10. "That's the red flag for me," one personnel man said. "If they're going to trade him, they obviously know something about the knee we don't know." JD's knee and his entire body is made of glass. The boy is very fragile.
  11. There was a time... doesn't sound too promising. :unsure :
  12. Sources said the Cardinals also have interest in Marlins Triple-A right-hander Justin Wayne, a former first-round pick who has struggled in limited exposure to the majors. Wild, Thanks for the story, I hadn't seen that one yet. I'll have to post that over at our forum (not that we need another Drew trade article). What do you guys know about Wayne? Is he any good?
  13. Like I said, we would probably end up sending a few prospects to the Pirates and 1 or 2 to St. Louis as well... Wild, That could make the deal go through. I just can't see the deal working without the Cards getting something more than Suppan. Whether it be a Major League OF or prospects.
  14. i think suppan would demand less talent than drew I agree, and that's why this trade won't happen. Drew has more trade value than just Suppan alone.
  15. Geee... I need to check this board more often... this is quite a long thread on my boy JD. Anyway, I'm not sure how serious the "Drew to Florida" rumor is. The whole idea was basically laughed off here in St. Louis. I can't imagine Jocketty trading Drew for Suppan. Jocketty isn't known for making stupid trades like that. I'm not sure if Drew will be traded (I seriously doubt he will), but it will take more than JUST Suppan to get him. Nothing against Suppan, but it will take more to get Drew.
  16. my hunch: JD Drew will be in a Cards uni for the rest of the year I agree... the Cards GM has already stated that he wouldn't trade Drew unless he was blown away with an offer. None of the names mentioned would blow anybody away.
  17. also this is about freddy garcia and jd drew he is not/nor will he ever be 100% healthy That's true, but if Drew was healthy then he wouldn't even be on the trading block.
  18. What if we got Drew and tried to trade him for Sidney Ponson? :mischief2 I think the Cards would make that deal if it was an option.
  19. He meant offensively. Although Bo still is a slight downgrade from Castillo defensively as well... Oh... I know he meant offensively. I just thought that I would add that Bo is a much better defensive player than most people think. I don't see Castillo that often so I an't compare their defensive abilities. However, a lot of Cardinal fans are of the opinion that Hart is as good defensively as Vina. I'm not sure that I agree with that, but it is a valid observation. I'm not trying to argue that Bo is as good as Castillo, but I also don't think he would be a bad replacement. For the record... I don't want Bo to leave the Cards.
  20. He'd probably bat 6-7... Everyone in the Marlinsline-up but Lowell/Gonzalez have speed, so that's no biggy. Unless Castillo is in the trade, nobody is knocking him from the 2 hole. Drew would be a good fit for the Marlins. Larussa doesn't give him much of a chance to use his speed.
  21. Bo Hart is a significant downgrade from Castillo.... Bo has shown that he can play some great defense.
  22. Plus, I don't believe that we need two speed players at the top of the lineup. In addition, Castillo has not been himself that much lately, with his speed numbers down, and his average below his norm. I say we do that trade. Drew is a speed player, but I don't know where he would bat in the Marlins line-up. The Cards like him as their #2 hitter when healthy.
  23. Thye Mariners would never trade, NEVER trade Garcia AND Winn just for Drew. That's crazy talk. Ponson is headed for Atlanta if anywhere, Garcia could be gone, but check his stats and you might not want him anymore. Escobar is probably staying in Toronto. Really, I think your best and most likely answer is Suppan. I know what Garcia's stats look like, but Garcia has done very well in the past, and won't be a FA for another year. He is a gamble, and his contract scares me a little.
  24. As long as he's back and 100% as of now, why wouldn't he be? Drew is not 100% right now.
  25. but will he be healthy enough when it really matters? Don't count on it. I like Drew a lot. He's possibly the fastest player on our team, and could be one of the best hitters on the team. I'm just starting to doubt that he will be able to stay healthy.
