The Marlins new banner
The Devil Rays one confuses me. Rebuilding the dream? Have they ever lived the dream as a franchise? They were never any good. They've been rebuilding since 1998.

Gathright update
I wouldn't expect Gathright to get dealt until Damon signs.

Mets and Marlins in "very serious" talks regarding LoDuca
If this trade does happen, it will be for Anderson Hernandez. Hernandez is not highly thought of by the Mets at all. They traded Vance Wilson for him last year, and Hernandez had a big year for them in AA and AAA. He's a speed guy, but he hasn't seen a pitch he doesn't like. Not a real top of the order type hitter. Can play SS and 2B. The thought is up here in NY is though, the Mets are leaking this trade rumor just like they leaked the Benson trade rumor to Baltimore. They want Molina or Hernandez to sign there contract offer of $8mil per year over 3 years.

Mets and Marlins in "very serious" talks regarding LoDuca
Rumor is up here in NY that the Mets are just floating this rumor out there to get Molina or Hernandez to take the offer the Mets made to them. Mets want one of those guys and are willing to settle for either one, but they've been reluctant to sign so far. Omar floated out the Benson for Julio deal to the NY Post two days ago and then all of a sudden he had phone calls from other teams telling him they'd offer more if he'd just wait a little longer. I still think LoDuca ends up in Arizona.

Mets and Marlins in "very serious" talks regarding LoDuca
Mets Are Said to Be in Talks for Marlins Catcher The Mets have extended offers to the top two free-agent catchers, but it is becoming increasingly likely that they will fill their catching void by trading for Paul Lo Duca. They are involved in "very serious" discussions with the Florida Marlins about acquiring Lo Duca, according to a baseball official who was granted anonymity because he did not want to jeopardize the negotiations. The official said he did not know whom the Marlins would receive, but at this point they may not be picky. In cutting payroll, they are searching for young, cheap talent, along the lines of the two midlevel prospects they acquired from Minnesota on Friday in exchange for second baseman Luis Castillo. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/04/sports/b...all/04mets.html

Marlins said no to Lastings Milledge....
I pose a question, if the Mets would have asked the Marlins to pay 15 mil instead of 7 would you still make the deal if Lastings Milledge replaced Mike Jacobs? Delgado 15 Mil Milledge Petit Psamos ?? The Mets aren't desperate to have anyone take on money. Even with Delgado, the Mets are only at a $81mil payroll. Mets will prob spend up to about a $120mil payroll. The Marlins passed on Milledge, but the reason they did was because it would not have been Milledge and Jacobs, it would have been just Milledge and Psomas. The Marlins liked Jacobs alot, so they went with that deal. These were the two deals: Milledge, Psomas for Delgado or Petit, Psomas and Jacobs for Delgado. Marlins figured, they should take the one with the two good prospects instead of the one with the big prospect. That's what they are reporting up here.

Problem with Beckett deal?
Has anyone heard anything about this deal yet? The Sox fans think that the deal isn't going through. http://mb3.scout.com/fbostonredsoxfrm1.sho...rt=301&stop=306

RUMOR PIERRE NEXT
I'd be all for Cano.. 1B: Mike Jacobs 2B: Robinson Cano SS: Hanley Ramirez 3B: Miguel Cabrera :thumbup How good could he be if nobody can spell his name . The Yankees are way too high on him. He can't play defense and doesn't run well. Just keep Castillo. Did you watch him at all this year? He's right on the money with everything he said. He's about as good as Soriano defensively and is not a guy that beats out hits either. He is a guy who's swing is absolutely perfect for Yankee stadium. Would be a 20 HR hitter in Yankee stadium eventually. Put him in the stadium in Florida and he gets killed. He won't be legging out any triples like Pierre or Castillo either.

Are we done?
I think we could be close to done with the "firesale." Or perhaps if we do trade any of our starters or relievers it will be for young but established and relatively cheap major league players (Toby Hall, Joey Gaithrait (sp?)). According to the Sentinel, the Marlins have shed over $25 million from last year's payroll, meaning we're at about $40 million for next season. Looks like the "market correction" is complete. Unless we want to get to about $30 million. With Pierre, Lo Duca, Luis, Miggy, and Hermida coming back, the team isn't terrible. It's still pretty good. You replace Lo Duca with Toby Hall and Pierre with Gaithrait and the team still looks good. The starting rotation isn't very strong, but what the hell. The team will still be exciting to watch. According to http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/, the Pierre to Cubs deal is complete.
