  1. None of our Minor league prospects are sexy like an Andrew Miller. That's not a good thing. yea but it's not like Miller isn't a top 10 or so pitching prospect dont get what youre trying to say He's saying HOW many teams can say they have an Andrew Miller in their system? Next to none. But out of all the pitchers we drafted in the first round the past couple of years, our highest prospect is a #39. and the next one after that is a wide margin from 39. That's not good. injuries and busts happen if sean west was healthy last season it wouldnt be suprising to see him up with volstad That's what happens when you draft so many pitchers in early rounds.... another thing is that some of those early round picks were picked because they are going to develop into something but dont have the high ceiling some scouts love the thing is there is a difference between stuff and being able to pitch. look at RVH he has the stuff to dominate the majors but he still has yet to learn how to pitch effectively. these picks were deamed as safer picks because they were easier to project right and a guy with high ceilings are harder to project and the pitchers the marlins have taken that are high ceiling guys are not developing like the marlins hoped when they drafted them but it doesnt mean they are hopeless some players take longer to develop
  2. just based off projections, scouts, etc, would he basically rate as the pitcher with the highest ceiling right now in our entire organization? By a long shot. He was a top 10 prospect in all of baseball I believe none of our prospects (yes out of all our pitching prospects) rank that high. Which is shamful, given we draft so many pitchers and none of them are standing out in the minors right now. stop putting so much into rankings. its not like every star was ranked high by baseballamerica I understand, but it's a starting point. Point is: none of our young pitchers are can't miss guys, or guys that blow you away. That's my point. also alot of our pitchers were still in single-A last year meaning they are years away from the majors and the good thing is with the guys that are higher up can be use as stopgaps and traded off when the younger guys are developed
  3. FACT: Miguel Olivo hit 2 more homeruns than Inge and batted .236 compared to Inge's .239. FACT: Mike Lowell hit .236 in 2005 for the Florida Marlins and won a Gold Glove that year. FACT: Mike Lowell is a douche and cost us the 2005 season. If you love Olivo and Lowell in 2005 (which Lowell himself cost us the playoffs), then you would love Inge. On top of that Inge will cost $$. Submediocrity at its finest. Is this the Chewbacca defense? chance inge goes back behind the plate? i don't see him as an option for the marlins. if we wanted him he would have been included in the trade This. I just rejoined this board? Maybe Chewy got this from me way back when... should be the JPierre75sbs defense :thumbup afterall my Member No is older than his. Member Number > Post Number member number means you joined earlier than the other person. it does not mean you were the first person to use the defense

  5. Ensberg would be worth a shot. High upside, low risk. The ESPN blog mentioned an option could be Uggla to 3B and Fredo to 2B. I think it was just the writer speculating and not based on anything he got from the team. That would be terrible. I wouldn't want to see Fredo out there everyday although he's good with the glove. He'd be terrible offensively given a whole year IMO. play the hot bat with him and andino could be an option. show off andino hope he gets some trade value before coughlan is ready. theres so many options not even including the possibility of trades and signings. spring training will sort everything out. i for one want to see andino start games in spring to reduce inflation of stats against single-A pitchers that end up pitching late in games

  7. cabrera dominated double-A pitching for half a season and spent 3 and a half years in the minors before being called up maybin dominated double-A pitching for 26 plate appearences and struck out 6 times in and spent less then 2 years in the minors before being called up ya theres a similarity they were 20 when called up thats it
  8. young guys are not made for the bench. Especially a guy like Andino who has been a starter all his life and thinks hes a badass. It takes a different ballplayer to be a good bench guy. It's a different ballgame being in the dugout. You are not getting anything for Andino. He has more value to the Marlins to hopefully replace Amezaga next year. Secondly, I understand you want a 3B but why do you want to start a young 3Bs arbitration clock in a non contending year by trading off all undervalued pieces. i.e. You want to move Nolasco when he's shown nothing for a year. Selling low is a terrible idea. The best move for the Marlins is to wait and field the cheapest possible team. They should stopgap 3B for 2008 and then reassess the organizations pitching strength after the year. See how the MLB guys are doing. See how the MiLB guys are doing. See who looks like they are going to make it and who not. Then make a decision to bring someone in who can grow with the team along the same projection path as Hanley/Hermida/Maybin and all the pitchers. i.e. get an incredibly price affordable 3B for the 2010-2012 seasons. Setting off an arbitration clock now while trading your pitching is pretty pointless. This is also why Maybin should start in AA this season and at earliest be called up in July. Don't worry. You'll get your trades. I expect the Marlins to move sometime in the next year Gregg/Uggla/Olsen/Mitre/Amezaga, maybe Cody, maybe one of Jacobs/Willingham, and if possible (if they somehow keep it up) Miller and Gardner. None of that is going to effect our longterm outlook and it will easily net all the remaining pieces this club needs. Just right now is a bad idea. How is trading Miller and Gardner a bad idea right now? And since when do you start a players arbitration clock when the team is competitive? There are no certainties that Maybin will excel right away. That's why this year is a rebuilding year. Let players suck now as opposed to later. maybin doesnt have as many proffessional at bats where you would want him to make the jump to the majors. its like drafting someone out of high school and saying were going to start you today against josh beckett. you don't want to put the guy in a situation where if he fails horribly he could regress as a ballplayer and take years to make it back to where he was. i didnt notice it but i'm sure someone will mention the tools-stats issue that a guy with tools has the ability to succeed in the majors like hanley did but you cant look at that without looking at the 100s of abercrombies for each hanley and unlike maybin hanley had gotten some abs in the minors as for miller and gardner sell high as in right now
  9. For guys on the 40 man roster that should be traded for more space and possibly some decent talent return, Starting with aging pitchers that pitched above their heads last season: Lee Gardner yes Justin Miller yes Kevin Gregg yes Pitchers that are mediocre Sergio Mitre yes if we sign a vet starter Ricky Nolasco no why in the world would we do that Nestor and hell, even Logan Kensing if possible um logan not in the future pass whatever your smoking over here Position players that are not in our future plans Robert Andino he has no value anyway so why trade him Mike Jacobs yes Alfredo Amenzaga yes if something of value is returned andino can take his spot De Aza lets see trade value = 0 yep lets ship him out Cody Ross no and yes, Uggla if the right deal comes along. yes i would have uggla listed as a priority to be traded over half this list The bullpen pitchers we have are our strong points, as they pitched well above their heads last season and everybody needs a relief pitcher. As for the positional guys... we have no use for them, as we are rebuilding and they're taking up space. Some new faces in exchange would be refreshing.
  10. well the idea of having inge is because we can start him in the outfield, third base, and catcher and i am sure he would be able to pick up first base too if need be can olivo offer you that. inge can also hold on to the ball when hes behind the plate unlike olivo. but none of that matters because he wasnt included in the cabrera-willis megatrade so hes not coming here unless he is released by the tigers
  11. He reeks of the Miguel Olivo disease but he can catch a baseball
  12. chance inge goes back behind the plate? i don't see him as an option for the marlins. if we wanted him he would have been included in the trade

How'd you get to talk to him, Ramp? just curious Him and I go to the same shoe shiner Ramp, Speaking of torn labrums, do you have any idea if we will we ever see Travis Bowyer again? Absolutely no idea how about nate bump? did he retire? I'd love to see Bump donning an Isotopes uniform for old times sake. As far as Bowyer goes, it would be a shame if he really was completely done. come on he would be the opening day starter this season
  14. So I guess this means Uggla will not be traded this offseason. Im thinking they dont base their trades on the flamarlins.com banner. i think they just want to get peoples hopes up thinking uggla and hanley will be here when the season starts and then trade uggla right before spring training, this way they will have time to get a picture of miller to replace him
  15. hanley himself didnt think he was ready to start in 06.............if im not mistaken lets see him play before we count him out in 08!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ya but hanley was also told he would be starting in 2015 for the red sox while maybin timeline is 2009
  16. If he knows ho the future gm of the Marlins feels he might need to think about things. lol selig wants to keep loria as owner until a new stadium is built in miami or the team is moved to another city

  18. lets see biggest porn convention is in las vegas but porn is not comparable to the city
  19. I really dont see Loria selling the team anytime soon. Atleast until they get the stadium. team value doubles at least day the stadium deal is finalized
  20. dont you mean without a premier bat behind him and ya wasnt one of those records most strikeouts Yes, I meant behind him. And it isn't unusual for a team to score a lot of runs/hit a lot of homers to K alot. DS is not built for team that relies on homers to score But our TEAM is. Unusual for the former small-ball Marlins, I know. and jacobs and uggla being traded is impossible? keep hermida, hammer, hanley (hey its triple-H) and maybin as a core and build from there. you never know And who do you suggest we trade them for? unfortunately i have no idea who would be interested in them but you can never have to many pitching prospects :lol i was just saying if put on the block they could bring back a piece that would make more sense for the club

  22. If rich teams can get penalized for spending too much, teams with less financial ability should be penalized for spending too little (being serious). Every team should be wealthy enough to remain competitive. spending money does not equal being competitive example cubs pick a season
  23. is there anything official that says the org. is considering moving uggla to 3rd or does this mean uggla will be moved too
  24. Marlins fans aren't strong enough to strike! but they are strong enough to live with the team being torn apart year in year out
