Needs: 3B, C
I think from the Marlins' perspective, they've already found their catcher. second that they only seem to be looking for a guy to start at third and players to offer minor league deals to

Florida Marlins or Miami Marlins
Besides the Twins, Diamondbacks, and Rangers.....isn't every other team named after the city rather than the state? This team should have been the Miami Marlins from the start, except I guess 'ol Wayne didn't want that. new york doesnt specify a city so thats 5, the angels were at one point the cali angels. its just a ploy to draw in the entire state as a fanbase and when the team came into the league the drays didnt exist

Florida Marlins or Miami Marlins
where are the options like the florida marlins of miami? That would be awful. it was a joke Admin i know its an awful name. what are the angels thinking?

Florida Marlins or Miami Marlins
And with the name change, all our "Florida Marlins" logo merchandise, especially the World Series memorabilia, goes up in price/value... for that to happen you need some demand as for the name miami marlins distances fanbase from outside of miami

Just For Fun

Justin Miller, Marlins agree to terms
why does girardi have anything to do with mitre. girardi left the cubs after 2002 at that time mitre was still pitching in A-ball. dont expect mitre to be out of the rotation until he is traded. he pitches much better starting over relieving and hes putting it together.

Just For Fun

Who Is Our Club Leader?
Definitely Olsen without a doubt +1
-
Yay or Nay: Johnny Estrada
non-tendered in this sense means he was not offered a contract through arbitration and is due no money meaning he will want to get paid and the marlins would certainly not do that

Brian Moehler
we can afford 600k but why overpay for a guy like moehler
-
Brian Moehler
nic ungs > jeff fulchino > brian moehler why grab something worse than what weve had sitting in the minors
-
Brian Moehler
a vet may be nice but not good old moe. if we sign a vet he needs to be cable of throwing 175+ innings and moehler hasnt done that since 2000

Players we should trade
No one is angry that he is "doing well" more angry that he is being mislabeled. The defensive awards are hiding the large amount of errors he committed last season (errors aren't the definitive judgment, but they are certainly a large component). And he has not had two good seasons in a row. In 2006, he posted a .250 AVG and sub-.700 OPS. Under no circumstances would I call that a good offensive season in the hitter friendly PCL. On top of that, Andino's offensive numbers were dwarfed by virtually everyone else on the Isotopes roster this past season (from the journeymen like Seabol to the young failures like Abercrombie). Even everyone's favorite Eric Reed wasn't far below Andino's SLG figures, despite being a singles hitter. I fail to see how anything Andino did in 2007 can be labeled as an accomplishment, other than saying he didn't play as badly as he did in 2006. Guys like Jeter and Edgar Renteria have many many errors every year, does that mean they are bad defensively? No it just means they go after balls not every shortstop attempts to go after! Andino has always beent he man defensively, as a matter of fact some have named him the next Alex Gonzalez defensively, although that may be a bit too high, it still doesn't take any away from the kid, he is great with the glove and is showing flashes of brilliance at the plate for the past two years he has done nothing but improve! people named him the new alex gonzalez like 3 years ago.

Needs: 3B, C
IMO we need a pitcher starter, a reliever and a 3B. I would like a lofton signing to groom maybin but tthat seems not possible. Opinions on our needs and who could be our next signing target ? thanks and GO MARLINS GO ! we do not need a reliever we do not need a starter we could use a 3b ramp i do believe we could use some vet we can abuse and he can rack up the innings to save the young guys arms but we could always just bring up those triple-a pitchers. the bullpen will be fine and third base could use some help

Maybin+Miller Wallpapers
I think with all the pressure that they have to outperform because thye are the main parts from the package for Cabrera/Willis, that they will breakdown and choke. i think you should go get started on ruining the yankees young pitchers careers

Phillies reject Helms trade with Marlins
De Aza went into Winter Ball to work on hitting the off speed crap. Any word on how he is doing? The kid dosen't have the supposed power of Maybin but he sure does cover alot of territory in our huge CF and he makes defenses think about him when he gets on base. IMO, nothing wrong with a fast, base stealing contact hitter leading off. I like what you getting at Bob, I could not agree more he needs to be able to hit first to fit into that equation

Players we should trade
this thread is done. somebody close it. Honestly, what is wrong with you? He's new. Give him some time... havent you seen his member number as for andino i want to see this defense first hand he should get a shot next year

Phillies reject Helms trade with Marlins
Besides I'm optimistic that either on their own or with a nudge from MLB, payroll will be in the $25 mil range, give or take, by opening day. Give it all to Hanley and Hermida up front in 5 year deals so we pay less money in future years. We can hope right? yep we can hope but remember on the organizations stances on paying for performance, more like trading after performance :thumbdown

Needs: 3B, C
I realize that people keep talking about this because it was mentioned more officially, but does anyone here that Uggla would be a better 3B than Hanley? My vote would be to move Hanley to 3B and split time w/ Amezaga & Andino at SS. I suggest it mainly because we do already have those two, who are primarily SS as opposed to needing to acquire/develop another 3B or 2B (or convert someone from another position). The only conversion involved here (Hanley to 3B) would be smoother than any of the others IMO. Plus I think the chances of us signing anyone with decent experience to fill the spot is close to zero, for the same reason we need to even have this discussion. heres the breakdown of games played at third according to thebaseballcube.com hanley 3 games amezaga 56 games andino 0 games uggla 228 uggla has spent the most time there in his career and if you shift him amezaga has spent more than enough time at second. if andino is starting i would like to see him at short all ive heard is his defense has been MLB caliber since hes been drafted Uggla also has 3342 Career ABs vs Hanley's 2810. I don't think that is enough to suggest he is a better hitter than Hanley, and I do think there is a reason, with Uggla having played 3B so long, why his career went nowhere at that time. Again, without looking at numbers mostly accumulated more than 3 years ago and actually making a judgement on how they played when last you saw them, do you think Uggla would be a better defensive 3B than Hanley? those numbers were just to show who had in game experience at third as a professional but i would rather have hanley at third over uggla. as much as i love uggla, i want him off the team before 2009 season. i think whatever received in a trade and a plus defender at second would help this team more than uggla at second with his bat. when this team is ready to compete i believe there will be enough bats throughout the lineup to upgrade defense at 2nd. plus coughlan could be ready for 2009 and i believe at least 2 of uggla, hammer and jacobs will be traded before they hit arbitration it just depends when you believe you can maximize there value
