Barry Bonds breaks All-Time Home Run Record
I'm not liking what we are seeing from Bud. Why even be there. You are the comissioner of the game, and no matter what you feel about him, it's not that hard to swallow your pride and applaud. It makes the game look bad. It's so hard being the commissioner. He obviously feels guilty that he all but endorsed steroid use in the late 90's and is now reaping what he sowed.

Barry Bonds breaks All-Time Home Run Record
so f***ing awesome what a blast that was Seriously. Did you see the bat speed on that one?!?! That's why he is the greatest of all time. Bonds greatest of all time? No way. Top ten yeah probably, but hell I'll take a healthy Griffey over Bonds any day. Lol. Bonds hit for more power, walked more, had more speed, played better defense (he's arguably the greatest defensive left fielder ever, something you can't say for Griffey in CF, great as he was), hit for a better average, grounded into less double plays, was hit by more pitches and has better numbers in just about every other concievable category. It's not even close. Griffey was always more popular, but he's not even playing the same game as Bonds.

Orange Bowl
I am an Alumni of FIU and I love my Alma mater but that study is total utiopic BS...4 parking garages by the OB? A Metrorail station next to the OB? I have no idea how they expect to pull it off ? The surrounding areas are strictly resedential. What the hell you do with these people and if the Metro-rail is gonna run east-west the OB would not be the point where it would turn We get it, the Orange Bowl is the worst site, only hialeah is a good site, etc.

The Marlins are Unrecognizeable.
:banghead I've been saying this for months on this board, yet I am called a conspiracy theorist. :banghead No, you've been saying Jeff and Bud have been systematically raping and pillaging the south florida market so they can kill it and ruin baseball forever here. I'm guessing Spring training is going to be banned in the state soon, huh? How many teams have already left, and the Dodgers will be the next one after this next ST. That will leave us with the smallest number of teams in Florida for ST since before expansion in 1962. And yes they have conspired to ruin it. If not why didn't Loria go to Washington with the Montreal franchise ???? Selig knew he would help ruin this market. He didn't go to Washington with the Montreal franchise because he wasn't the owner when they moved. They needed him to take over the Marlins so that John Henry could buy the Red Sox. Wouldn't it have been easier for Selig to ruin the market by leaving us without an owner like he did to Montreal?

Stairway To Heaven
Many songs get "played out" in my mind. But I NEVER get sick of Stairway To Heaven. The thing is, Im not even into "that genre". Im a house/electro/new wave kinda guy. But I freakin love Stairway. Additionally, Im not really a guitar solo guy but the solo makes me get goosebumps on my forearms. Jimmy Page > Skynard By the way, has anyone ever heard the track, "Hairway To Steven"? Butthole Surfers, right? The solo for Stairway is pretty awesome, but there are literally hundreds that move me more than that one (check out "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" for a goosebumps inducing guitar break). Jimmy Page is a pretty awesome guitarist, and I'd say he's better than anyone in Skynyrd, but even the worst guitarists in the world can be momentarily inspired to greatness, and the guys in Skynyrd are far from the worst guitarists in the world. The "Freebird" solo > "Stairway" solo, even if "Freebird"'s solo is a bit overdone. It still kicks ass.

Oh, and to be fair, if you're going just by the stats, the best defensive NL SS this year is Troy Tulowitzki, by a pretty wide margin. Baseball prospectus also rates him as an above average defensive player. They rate Reyes as a slightly above average shortstop, but still almost a full win's worth of runs behind Tulowitzki. I mean, no one defensive metric has it completely right yet, but they can't all be wrong. If they all agree, I think it's definitely a usable stat. That entire infield is ridiculous. Rockies? Yeah. Yeah, defensively they are pretty awesome.

So that you'll get banned and we won't have to deal with your crap anymore. This post makes me smile. I really get under your skin don't I ? :lol Dumb people generally do. :lol Evidently I am smart enough :lol To string words together in a vaguely coherent sense? Fine, I'll give you that. But smart enough to do just about anything else? Doubtful.

Reminds me of the South Park with Stan's dad on Wheel of Fortune: The category is, "People who annoy you" The letters up on the board: "N_ggers" Stan's Dad: Uh, I think I know the answer, but I'm not sure if I should say it... "Oh, NAggers."

Back to Luis. Reyes is not a difference maker on defense at short. He is good, but terribly overrated. He doesn't "steal" outs the way an Ozzie Smith or Omar Vizquel does. Hell, I don't even think he's as good as Alex Gonzalez 2000-2004 with the glove. Yeah his arm is FANTASTIC, but if the footwork is so so and the range is aided basically only by speed and not instinct (yeah, I hate that expression, but it's the only way to get it across) he's not stealing any outs or creating any double plays above and beyond that of an average or slightly above average short-stop. Second base is an overrated position for turning the DP, anyway, it's basically catch and throw except in extremely rare circumstances...and if those rare events turn into 6 more DP's over the course of a season, that's not winning a division. ur nuts, Reyes is wicked defensively, you can argue him for being top 3 defensive SS in the NL this year behind Jack Wilson and Omar. No, you can't. Middle of the pack fielding percentage, middle of the pack put outs. Second worst range factor of any qualified NL short-stop (ahead of only JJ Hardy). Then again, he is the "most overrated exciting player in baseball" ? I mean, most fielding metrics are flawed, but if every single one agrees that a player is not all that good, then something's gotta give. And most fielding metrics show Reyes to be very average. That's my point entirely. I hate the notion of quantifying defense, but if most accepted evaluators say he's nothing overly unique, it's probably the case. But hey, he is the next Rickey Henderson.

NL East Standings
We won't finish behind the Nationals. It took an 8 game losing streak by us for the Nats to get this close. Eventually the Marlins will start losing again and any hope the Nats have of not being last will disappear. I disagree. They will finish behind.....it will take a miracle to win 75 games now. Do a ban bet with someone. Give me a reason to do it ? So that you'll get banned and we won't have to deal with your crap anymore.

BK Kim gone?
If you are smart about it, you don't have to spend money to be competitve. The A's have won like a million games in the past 7 years and have spent like $.37 and a pack of gum to do so. They get rid of their star players, and they don't bat an eye. Just to chime in, you do have to be smart spending the money, which the A's are and we aren't. Just because the payroll's low doesn't mean that it's not going to balloon out of control in 2009 if we keep doing the year to year pay for performance plan. The A's basically illustrate the values of buying out arbitration. We've been relatively competitive (top half of the league) every year but this one since 2002. I think that shows that we've been fairly smart about spending our money. I do agree with need to buy out the arbitration years, but I don't think they are going to do that, so it's not worth complaining about it. But at the very least, this team has shown they'll put out the money if they feel we can compete. There's no use spending money if you aren't going to make a run at it, and thats what I feel motivated the Kim move. Though he we didn't at least get another player just blows my mind...

Stairway To Heaven
So, this was, for some reason, brought up in a thread about Luis Castillo, and the question is, what do you think of "Stairway to Heaven"? I, for one, think that like everything else off of their 4th LP, "Stairway To Heaven" is massively, and grossly overrated. The first 3 minutes are boring as hell, the lyrics make no sense, and if it wasn't for the ripping guitar solo near the end, I would almost have nothing good to say about it. I know it's sacrilegous to say this, but I'd take "Freebird" over "Stairway", because at least "Freebird" isn't trying to be anything more than a big dumb rock song with a sweet guitar solo. There are dozens of better Led Zeppelin songs, and the fact that this is the most famous is kind of bothersome to me. What says you, Marlinsbaseball.com?
