  1. Bringing in someone to compete with Uggla???? Are you out of your mind?????? The only way we can bring in somebody that can even hold Uggla's jockstrap is if we give the guy 9 mil a year. Or maybe Luis will take a hometown discount. The last thing we need is to pay for somebody to compete with Uggla. I think you should be banned for even proposing the idea. Uggla > Luis In this case you have takin the "defense means nothing" mentality a little too far. Im not saying we should go out and get Luis but.......Luis > Uggla Or has Luis just been really really lucky in his career? :mischief Luis highest WARP3 in 2 seasons (2003 and 2005): 13.5 (5.2 of those wins coming from defense) Dan Uggla WARP3 in his first 2 years: 19.2 (6 of those wins coming from defense) Baseball prospectus finds Uggla to be a tremendously underrated fielder at an important defensive position, so that's where the gap in value comes from. But since I know most people will object to Uggla being a higher rated defender than Luis, even if Uggla was of neutral defensive value, his bat alone is worth as much as Luis' bat and glove were in his two best seasons. Granted it is entirely possible that being his 26 and 27 YO seasons, it's entirely possible he's peaked, but he's still tremendously valuable, moreso than Luis in any year with the Marllins.
  2. Miguel is the best player in the national league not named Albert Pujols. This is not up for debate, and anyone who wants to debate this will be swiftly shot down.
  3. Uggla > Luis No frickin' way, especially as a #2 hitter. Apparently the Marlins still think Uggla is Luis, which is the only conceivable reason Uggla is hitting second. Luis had really nice On base skills. He also couldn't hit for any type of power. I agree he was more suited for the 2 spot than Uggla, but Uggla is still a more valuable player anywhere in the lineup.

guy is freaking ridiculous. "100 million for ichiro?!?!?!?" (pretend i just screamed that in the girliest voice you've ever heard and i pronounced ichiro wrong). take that samson you retard loser idiot. It's still too much money for a slap singles hitter.
  5. omg a hermierda thread with real stats and analysis. This thread is going to disapear soon. The board can't take it. It's going to reject it like a virus.

When they have no place to play in 2010 and all "home" games will be played in San Juan, Albequerque or Jupiter, MLB will say enough is enough and contract them. Its not set in stone you have to have 162 game seasons....it can be accomodated for. This team already is looking at playing at least 2010 season as all away games....Huizenga said we have to be out after 2009. As much of a snake Wayne is, I believe he has stated numerous times that the team will be able to play at DS through 2010. Probably be exorbitant cost wise, but still. Selig needs to use the "good of the game" clause or whatever it is and force Loria to sell to someone in south Florida that has $$ and ties.

Then stop f***ing rooting for them and for the love of god stop posting on their fan site. As for the outlook being bleak, Hermida's going to post an OPS > .850 next year, I guarantee it. Our offense is going to be amazing if we can get even average production from CF or C. If our pitching can put it together next year and stay healthy, we'll be able to make a real run at it. And if you expected more from Willingham then you must have really unrealistic expectations. The only problem has been lefties, and by next year I fully expect him to be able to hit both righties and lefties and he'll be a complete player. Why should I stop ? I LOVE the Marlins, but I LOATHE the owner, and what he has done to them. Hermida hasn't shown us squat, except that he is a below average fielder & a strikout king. They are my team, and you have no idea how it hurts to post the way I do, but someone, somewhere needs to get the people on this board to wake up and smell the coffee and stop drinking the kool-aid. Loria was sent here to ruin baseball for good down here, and Selig right now is rubbing his hands together with glee. Notice he chose to not attend any of the games that the Marlins are involved in against Bonds ? If he is in LA for the Giants @ Dodgers it only adds to my argument. He didn't attend the games because there was no real threat of him breaking the record. If he had hit one tonight I would bet you anything Selig would've been there tomorrow. Selig loathes the Marlins so much he can't even stomache watching a game of theirs? Thats far fetched. This team will have a real shot to make a run at it next year, if the pitching stays healthy and learn how to play defense. If all that happens we'll be in good shape Dude, don't you see this ain't gonna happen ? Under Fredi at least...because he's afraid of telling his pouty little boys that they need to play better. Yes, because what is holding this team back is Fredi not telling them to play better. Fredi: Alright, Alfredo, enough is enough, man. You've got to play better. We need to win some games. Fredo: Oh sh*t, you are right. I've been half assing this season because I didn't think you'd notice. I'm so sorry. I'll play better now. Of all of the dumbass posters on this board, you are by far the dumbest. Good god, man...

Is there any chance we can fire Jeffrey Loria? So you mean some people are starting to agree with me that he is a terrible owner ? OMFG ! :o Umm...youd be hard pressed to find a handful of people that DONT agree with you. I guess you and I read the posts a different way. I've called out Loria before and people have bashed me about it. People bash Loria all of the time. You are the only one who says he hates South Florida and wants to move the team to Montreal and all that bulls***.

you know... everyone is saying to sell but besides maybe dtrain what do we have to sell??? no way were gonna let miguel go and aaron boone is hurt...who would you sell? That's the fallacy of this ownership's philosophy. You can't have all bargain basement players. Now we have to rely on draft picks to start producing in the minor leagues. We have some arms down there, but its a bleak place when it comes to position players. The outlook for the franchise is pretty bleak right now. You can't win with these guys......plain and simple, they are what they are...mediocre at best. Hermida is a HUGE disappointment, and frankly I expected more out of Willingham. Ugglas was a pleasant surprise, but can you really get much even if you traded any of these guys ? If you trade away the arms on the farm, then what do you have in a couple of years ? Beinfest has proven not to be the swiftest at draft day, but better at picking up trades after seeing what guys can do as professionals. Not many of our guys were drafted by the Marlins. Everyone thinks Beinfest is a genius, but maybe he has just gotten lucky a number of times and now the tables have turned. The only way to climb out of this hole, will be for Loria to spend some money, and we know that isn't going to happen. Bleak, bleak, bleak days ahead for this franchise before it is contracted. Then stop f***ing rooting for them and for the love of god stop posting on their fan site. As for the outlook being bleak, Hermida's going to post an OPS > .850 next year, I guarantee it. Gregg isn't as good a pitcher as he appeared during the first few months of the season. Regression to the mean.
  11. There's gotta be a better way to post those numbers. Can a mod please clean that up?
  12. They've discussed moving there, but nothing more than "hey, wouldn't that be something" talks, as far as I know.
  13. Was it "chalked"? those are pretty easy to spot...
  14. I like them...

  16. I guess we all should have seen the draft of Ginn coming when we traded Welker What a job by the phins, getting a 2nd and a 7th for somebody nobody wanted! And then in turn wasting the number 9 pick in the draft on (for at least the first few years) the same exact player.
  17. If Fredi had the same team (i.e. a starting 5 of a healthy Anibal, Ricky, Josh, Trelle, and Scotty) I think the record would've been extremely similar. Similar to this year, or similar to the second-half of last season??? Similar to the entirety of last year. It's nice to point at what the record was after 42 games or whatever, but the fact of the matter is the team did lose those games. the 11-31 still happened, despite what their record was after that fact.
  18. If Fredi had the same team (i.e. a starting 5 of a healthy Anibal, Ricky, Josh, Trelle, and Scotty) I think the record would've been extremely similar.
  19. Yeah, he has picked up in some areas, but 2B is growing as a much stronger position than most will give it credit for. Uggla is definitely adequate, but not the All Star some claim him to be. While his power numbers have increased, he leads the league for second basemen in SO's by a looong way (over 30 SO's from the next guy), and his OBP is suffering, which worries me for his future. Uggla has a higher WARP3 than any player on our team. He is an above average defender and is an absolute beast on offense. The only other 2B with a higher WARP3 than Uggla is Utley. Uggla may be the most underappreciated player on our team. He's got an average OBP despite his "horrendous" batting average, and he's got a lot of power. Uggla is not only an all star (or more accurately, he should be), he's one of the 2 best 2nd basemen in the league. Stats aside, I don't hold him in as high regard as you do but I do consider him adequate with a glove. Above average even. I do like the nonstatistical things he brings to the table. Attitude, workmanship, etc... He also is a fan favorite, which dosen't mean all that much with the exception of how he earned that regard. All in all I wouldn't object to seeing someone brought in during the off season to give him a run for the position. Unless we are bringing in Brandon Phillips or Chase Utley then there is no reason to have competetition for a power hitting 2nd baseman who is good with the glove who is just entering his prime. What we need to do with Danny is keep him until he's a free agent and take the compensation. He's going to be a free agent at the age of 32 or something, we don't want to be anywhere near him when he hits free agency. Take the draft picks and thank him for the 6 years of being a top 5 second baseman in the league.

I'm assuming the defense is much stronger in AA?
  21. oh man, you don't remember? awesome. that's so cool. it's real easy to be real tough hiding behind your internet connection and computer. and then you can just forget about it. sick. and each and every time you misquote me, you look more and more like an ignorant prick. Drop it, please. I'm sorry. Now answer the winning attitude thing. "Girardi spent one year as Bench coach for the Yankees. He spent four years with them as a player. Why does he have a "winning attitude" from spending like 20% of his career there and not a "losing attitude" from spending about half of his career witht he cubs and Rockies?" How do you know Torre rubbed off on Girardi anymore than Cox did on Fredi? You know what I think has shaped both managers year's? Girardi's pitchers were all healthy, and they all pitches great. Fredi has like one good starter and some good relievers. I think this has had more to do with their success than anything else.
  22. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « The chaper where Harry buries Dobby was probably the most well written part of the entire series. That was an amazing scene.
  23. apparently fredi is unaware of that little 11-31 learning curve we went through in which i'm sure we made errors at a much greater pace than we did while we went 67-53. but in fredi's mind, it's perfectly fine that under his leadership they have regressed back to the shoddy defense they played in the early part of 2006. i know you can't really blame fredi for the defense because of the loss of such a great coach as perry hill, but it's fredi's loser mentality about everything that i can't stand. girardi is much more of a winner. and there's no learning curve from year 1 to year 2? how is Girardi more of a winner than Fredi?... that's utter BS (one way or the other) come on. you know it is not. how many world series did girardi win with the yankees? how many years was he a part of a winning organization with a winning attitude? how long did he study what to do in specific situations? there is absolutely no doubt girardi is more cerebral than fredi. i think swift said before how girardi went by the book and fredi goes by misguided guts; very good characterizations. from what has transpired thus far, it's safe to say that bobby cox didn't rub off on fredi too much. and i'm not saying joe girardi is the ultimate winning manager. i'm saying in his one season he proved that he is better than loser fredi gonzalez has shown. and polo's comment: "I think it has a lot to do with guys who are not gifted defensive players playing for a manager who hides his head in the sand when the poor play occurs" could not agree more with that that wasn't my point; the braves didn't rub off on fredi as much as the yankees did on girardi. Girardi spent one year as Bench coach for the Yankees. He spent four years with them as a player. Why does he have a "winning attitude" from spending like 20% of his career there and not a "losing attitude" from spending about half of his career witht he cubs and Rockies? And boy you really are harping on that "arrogant prick" thing, huh? Did I say that to you? I honestly don't remember... Either way, everytime you say something completely ridiculous like "Fredi has a losing attitude because Bobby Cox didn't rub off on him enough" you look more and more like one.
  24. what does being a terrific or an awful player have to do with being a winning manager? Apparently, everything. "come on. you know it is not. how many world series did girardi win with the yankees? how many years was he a part of a winning organization with a winning attitude?" The answer to all these questions are 3 and 4. He won 3 world series and was part of a winnning organization with a winning attitude for 4 years. What the hell does that have to do with being a good manager? You brought it up, man. And learn to use the edit button, please.
