Lowell needs to b here for the long run....
Lowell is in many ways the defacto captain of this team. That occured when he changed numbers to #19. I'm not sure I follow you. At the risk of sounding foolish - what is the significance of wearing #19? :mischief2

Lowell needs to b here for the long run....
Minus, I couldn't agree with you more - I had similar thoughts last evening. To me - Lowell truly epitomizes what a Marlin player should be - he is a model citizen who gives his all on every play. I think the Marlins should do everything in their power to sign him to a long term deal. He should remain a cornerstone for the franchise for years to come. I would go as far as naming him "Captain" of the team. If Lowell leaves it will be a sad day for Marlin fans everywhere.

Carl Pavano
Excellent point Ross - if we can just keep our heads above water for the next few weeks - this team can be primed to make a legitimate move in the standings. Another bright spot has been the performance of the bullpen - guys like Borland, Levrault, and Phelps have all been given opportunities and have pitched reasonable well. Their development will be highly beneficial as the season progresses. If we can find another bat for the bench and Pudge & company heat up - things could get very interesting.

Be on the "look out" for Radio pigskin guy
Bravo - I heard this jerkoff yesterday as well. His comments are so un-informed. He should just stick to football - I call him Mel Kiper, Jr. Jr - draftnik wannbe - he doesn't know squat when it comes to baseball. He just wants the team to wave a magic wand and make a deal. Well how often do major league teams make trades in May? Not very often. He keeps harping on how Loria can't afford a team and how we need an owner with deep pockets. Oh yeah - guys like Wayne Huizenga and John Henry - right?

Torborg = No Emotion, No Fire
Johnny - Good to see you posting here. I've seen your posts on the ESPN board and you seem to be a reasonable, well-informed fan. I look forward to seeing more of your insights.

Gerald Williams is going to AAA

Torborg = No Emotion, No Fire
While watching the clips on last night's SportCenter of Tony LaRussa & Lloyd McClendon getting ejected - I got to wondering if Torborg has ever been while managing the Marlins? Ross do you have any idea??? I love when a manager shows some life and will stand up for his team. Fiery managers like Piniella, Bowa and LaRussa bring a passion to their squad. It's seems to me that Torborg and the Marlins lack passion. Who motivates this team? I wish Pudge or Lowell would step up and call a players only meeting to get the team focused and fired up. It seems like Dontrelle brought some emotion to the mound last night. I hope it carrries over this evening. :hat

Gerald Williams is going to AAA
Lee's consecutive game streak is hurting the Marlins. Does Torborg have the balls to sit him? Banks should start a couple of games at first now and then. Torborg would have to make sure Lee entered the game as a pinch hitter or defensive replacement in order to keep the streak intact.

Gerald Williams is going to AAA
Nah, I wouldn't be too concerned. Fox could play the outfield in a pinch. We need the depth in the pen right now. Hopefully, this move will lead to Banks getting more AB's. He had another solid at-bat last night. I'd like to see him platoon with Hollandsworth in left.

Mike Berardino interview....
I heard Bernardino yesterday as well. I too respect him and enjoy his work immensely. My question is in regards to the reliability of the source. Who is to say this isn't someone who has an axe to grind with Sampson or Loria. Or is looking to save face? I am very skeptical of Arnsberg and others. Perhaps someone is trying to deflect criticism by pointing blame in another direction. Weren't there rumors of Samson trying to fire Arnsberg in Spring Training? It baffles me as to why the Marlins would hide the info. Why in the world would they pitch him in September? Why didn't anything show up when Burnett visited Andrews in Alabama on multiple occassions? There is definately more to this story - it just doesn't make sense the way it is laid out right now. I hope Bernardino ultimately gets to the bottom of it all. In the meantime, I am giving the Marlins management the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Mark Redman
Somebody needs to tell Sea Bass that when you "tweak" your hand you need to play. There is a difference between being injured and playing with some pain. I guarantee that the great SS's - Nomar, Jeter, Ripken, etc. would be playing!

Breaking News!
Excellent point. And what pitcher and what type of agent wouldn't have all the details following each and every examination? It seemed like Brad Penny knew all about his exams. He was defending himself (along with the front office) when those bogus allegations surfaced last year. Again, I can't believe this story. I don't want to believe either. Conspiracy theory - Torborg & Arnie are trying to pass the buck.

Breaking News!
I guess from that standpoint I would have to agree with you Das. If Loria, Sampson & Beinfest knew AJ was injured, and they didn't tell AJ, Torborg & Arnsberg and kept sending him out to pitch there would have to be serious ramifications. The other thing that doesn't make sense is that AJ wasn't checked out by some doctor in Hialeah - he visted the world's most reknowned pitching/arm specialist in Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham, AL. For Andrews not to disclose an injury or misdiagnose is preposterous.
-
Breaking News!
I think you guys are over reacting. How would not disclosing the injury benefit the Marlins? If anything, it would have been beneficial to reveal the injury in regards to the arbitration case. It also could have been used to justify them not offering a long term deal when they were taking so much heat. I think it's a ploy by Torborg & Arnsberg to deflect criticism and salvage their careers.

MARLINS PLEASE LISTEN THIS TIME!
It's good to see the Marlins are at least considering some options. I'd rather not give up any top prospects for a short term fix. Hopefully Sampson & Loria are in it for the long haul. I wonder if there is any interest in Sterling Hitchcock? He looked pretty good in some limited action on Sunday.

I say "NO" on Willis call-up
Disagree. DW is a special talent. His time is now. The great one's often jump directly from AA to the majors...ala Josh. Bochtler is a journeyman. Bump is a mid-level prospect. Dontrelle will also add excitement. If his stuff is together...he is a joy to watch. Kind of like a Carmelo Anthony on the mound...big smile, full of energy. He is the type of pitcher you would make a special trip to the stadium to watch pitch. :arms

Marlins vs Giants
Tuesday:Jason Schmidt(3-0, 1.77era) vs Carl Pavano(2-4, 4.66era) now on paper, Tuesday's game looks to be heavy in favor of the Giants...... but......Jason Schmidt will make his first start since his mother died(brain tumor) so his head may not be into the game......*note: im not saying its a good advantage, but it may mess Schmidt up* it wouldnt let me put 0 wins....so if thats what you think...just post it Shmidt pitched a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts the other night - it was his first game back after his mother's death.

Banks
I'm not saying Brian Banks is the next Mickey Mantle...but why the heck hasn't :jackass given him at least an AB in the last two games??? The last time Banks came to the plate I seem to remember him hitting a clutch HR to beat Arizona. Also, every time I see Gerald Williams at the plate I want to puke. Torborg = :guillotine
