  1. I think Juan could be had here...after all, both he and Pudge fired their agents - the same guy! And I think Pudge has been trying to get Juan to come here...something may be up. But who knows...at least we are 'gazing' in that direction. The article said they should gaze in other directions. It all but rules out Juan - as he is wanting to stay in the American League. Doesn't sound like there is any chance of him coming here. Weathers would be a nice addition. I'd take AA but he would have to come very cheap.
  2. I don't think Stratton can play the infield!
  3. In 100 ABs off the bench, Stratton would probably have 20 hits 15 of which would be homers... He'd also have 75 K's.
  4. Albuquerque Isotopes outfielder Robert Stratton hit 10 home runs in the final round to defeat Louisville?s Brandon Larson 10-5 and win the Old Navy Home Run Derby this afternoon in Memphis. Stratton advanced to the finals by finishing in the top two of the first round. The Isotope hit seven long balls in round one, finishing ahead of Edmonton?s Terrmel Sledge (4) and Rochester?s Michael Restovich (3). Larson hit nine in the first round to also advance. In the final round, Stratton, who leads all of Minor League Baseball and the Old Navy Home Run Race with 29 HR, went first and hit ten, including a 470 footer for his eighth homer. Larson was not able to match, finishing with five. Stratton takes home the title, along with $1,000 in cash and $500 in Old Navy gift certificates. He will compete in tomorrow?s Triple-A All-Star game, serving as the Pacific Coast League?s designated hitter.
  5. Looking forward to seeing Hermidia & Merkle in Jupiter soon.
  6. Marlins en Miami is pretty good, just wait. I know it hurts, but they are full of stuff, only place other than Pro Player to go for Marlins stuff. MLB.com and the Florida Marlins.com store are good, but believe it or not, I buy some Marlins stuff at Wal-Mart, since they are the biggest store in Fort Myers open whenever I want to go. I love the concept of the Marlins en Miami - but I am "sure as hell" not driving down there from my home. Has there been any thought of adding a Marlins in Broward or Palm Beach? It would be nice to have representation in all three counties.
  7. :lol Its gonna be a surprise :lol How about Robert Stratton of the Albuquerque Isotopes?!?! He can hit 'em a ton. :w00t

  9. They will still have a number of excellent prospects. Why wouldn't the Marlins sign Allison?
  10. Another young arm at Carolina is Donnie Bridges. I believe he is currently 7-1 for the Mudcats. When the Fish sign Jeff Allison they will have a nice stable of young arms throughout the organization. Bautista, Hutch, Levinski, Bridges, and Wayne just to name a few.
  11. Correct, he was recently promoted to Carolina along with Trevor Hutchinson - another top prospect. Both had been tearing up the FSL with Jupiter. look for continued progress from both.
  12. Did anyone catch Denny Bautista's showing in the Futures Games? He had two strikeouts in one inning of work. The kid has nasty, nasty stuff and and a funky delivery. He looks to be a right-handed version of Dontrelle - difficult to pick up the ball upon his release. Tony Gwynn sang his praises and Peter Gammons talked about his off-season workouts with Pedro and the rest of the Martinez family. It's no wonder the Marlins refused to include him in any deals. He looks to be an awesome prospect!!! :thumbup
  13. Dmitri Young.
  14. Hes up for arbitration next season so I hope we offer him something or else we just lost 3 prospects for zilch...if we can get a 1yr deal with him this offseason and then let him go or trade him we'll get the 2 first rounders. The worst that can happen is that we will get a first round draft pick, correct? If so we wouldn't have traded three prospects for zilch.
  15. "invest in the team to win now" at the cost of Ted Lilly and Brad Fullmer - superior players all around. HA!!!!!! :w00t
  16. Come out and support the team on the next homestand!
  17. Exactly. We traded from a position of strength.
  18. That's like saying that there are no differences between two school teachers. A good student will do good with any teacher. However, a good student will EXCEL with an excellent teacher. Great analogy. You should call that moron Ed Kaplan!
  19. I doubt there will be. We overpayed for Urbina and he will tell all of Florida that. You're crazy - we traded an underperforming first round pick, a throw in from the Dumpster trade and a marginal double A prospect. We have plenty of talent to replace all three.
  20. Any predictions as to the reaction of the SoFla media? I'm sure Bernadino will have something negative to say. :thumbdown
  21. Uh oh! Wouldn't want to tick you off! Get a clue. The righty is going down. Dude do you think Levrault is a scrub or something? I am sure most Marlin fans would want to see Tejera or Almanza leave before Levrault. He's a journeyman. Send him back to the Boston Beer Leagues.
  22. The only reason for Levrault being sent down is that he is not a left hander. It has to be because his numbers are far better than the 2 scrubs Tejera and Almanza. If they send down Levrault that will just really tick me off. Uh oh! Wouldn't want to tick you off! Get a clue. The righty is going down.
  23. Levy. He's a righty and hasn't pitched in weeks.
  24. Great update. Good to hear about Hermidia. Sounds like the entire organization is doing well - all levels. I don't consider Stratton a legitimate prospect at this time. Needs a lot more discipline at the plate. As for Hawkeye, I seem to recall him being Justin Wayne's brother!
  25. 2. Kevin Youkilis - 3B/1B - DOB: 3/15/79 - ETA: 2004 Notes: 2002 was very, very good for Mr. Youkilis. He hit .344 with a .462 OBP and a .500 SLG in AA-Trenton and instantly shot up the depth charts with the takeover of the new statistically-oriented regime. Ten years ago Bill James would have written about how a prospect like Youkilis with unbelievable plate discipline deserves a shot. Now, James may play a part in giving him a chance. Youkilis won't give you much in the way of power or defense (may see more time at first base or DH than third), but he'll hit for solid average and be a permanent fixture on base. If Hillenbrand is traded, Youkilis may see a shot at the starting job before the 2003 season is over. he is a sabermetrics dream, ie Billy Beane would love him Beane is obsessed with Kevin Youkilis. In "Moneyball" Beane is willing to do almost anything to get Youkilis. As Ramp said he is a Sabremetrics dream. My comments regarding Tejada & Zito were "tongue in cheek." However, if Theo was willing to give Youkilis up would could parlay him into something of greater value due to Beane's fascination with him. I don't think Theo would trade him to Oakland directly!
