Stratton Takes AAA Home Run Derby

Featured Replies

Albuquerque Isotopes outfielder Robert Stratton hit 10 home runs in the final round to defeat Louisville?s Brandon Larson 10-5 and win the Old Navy Home Run Derby this afternoon in Memphis.

Stratton advanced to the finals by finishing in the top two of the first round. The Isotope hit seven long balls in round one, finishing ahead of Edmonton?s Terrmel Sledge (4) and Rochester?s Michael Restovich (3). Larson hit nine in the first round to also advance.

In the final round, Stratton, who leads all of Minor League Baseball and the Old Navy Home Run Race with 29 HR, went first and hit ten, including a 470 footer for his eighth homer. Larson was not able to match, finishing with five.

Stratton takes home the title, along with $1,000 in cash and $500 in Old Navy gift certificates. He will compete in tomorrow?s Triple-A All-Star game, serving as the Pacific Coast League?s designated hitter.

In 100 ABs off the bench, Stratton would probably have 20 hits 15 of which would be homers...

I'd rather see STratton on the bench than Mike (Mr. K) Mordecai...even if Stratton hits .200 but puts the ball in play it is worth it over Mordy

He'd also have 75 K's.

Amazing how you people jusge players game to game.

ummm..Mordecai has sucked as a PH all season.....Need some new blood in there

Amazing how you judge ppl for judging players

Well unless you suggest someone with the versatility of Mordy your stuck with him...his role is not to hit HR's, but to cover all the IF spots (minus 1B) in a pinch. Sorry, but Stratton cant manage anything but 1B. And even that would be scary. So whats your point?

the only time Stratton puts the ball in play, it leaves the yard, otherwise he is a K machine

Congrats to Rob Stratton. Man, he deserves it :thumbup

I don't think he ever becomes more than he is now, we might see him for a couple of Sept callups, but not much more. He's got to start hitting for average if he ever expects to see the bigs. He's gonna hit fifty before the season's done. Pretty impressive I say, whether its in AAA or anywhere else.

Bring up Stratton, he will strike out a hell of a lot, but his power from the left side could help things a little. The only problem is, who do you send down?

why not send down Castro? So he could get some at bats? Then Stratton could platoon with Cabrera at LF.

Castro is out of options

Does anyone know if Strattons getting any kind of outside hitting instruction?

if he does, and raises his avg. considerably, he could be the next Mark McGwire...

if they buckled down and got him serious 1 on 1 instruction i could see this guy for the Marlins hitting 40 HR's as a rookie...

by the way...he's showing some hope, his average is up to .239 :w00t :confused

The marlins should really put all their efforts in helping this kid at least hit .270. They have to hire a good hitting instructor to help him out.

Fox is much more valuable then Stratton because of his versatility. He doesnt have near Stratton's power, but you guys dont understand. Stratton would have to start to give us any significant power....his avg would be sub .200 If he pinch hit I dont see him even making contact in the AB's he would get. Our bench is fine.

Our bench could be better

Everything could be better, but its not a pressing need...like an OF bat...Id give Cabs another week. Maybe hell figure something out over the break. Cyggy you cant take guys who can play every IF position and replace him with a one-dimensional player. You need two of those types and we have them. We have our two power bats and one contact bat off the bench...whats so bad about it? Im failing to see.
