  1. I really enjoyed the book. It seems like Beane takes his theories a bit to the extreme. I like his thought process regarding college players, however I can not fault the Marlins pick of Allison in the first round. It seems like Beane's theories will begin to spread throughout the league - his success and the success of his followers (JP & Theo) will breed a new way of scouting and drafting. I love the part about John Mabry. Great stuff. Also based upon the book, there is virtually no chance Beane will keep Tejada next year. :hat
  2. The Jeremy Brown story was amazing. I was checking his stats at AA and he is doing well. I loved the whole Swisher story as well. You know he was mocking the Marlins for drafting Hermidia with Swisher staring them right in the face.
  3. i think Billy Beane is full of it. He's doing something right. I especially liked the chapters on Scott Hatteberg & Chad Bradford. The chapter on the 2002 Draft strongly suggests Beane was laughing his a** off when the Marlins selected Hermidia with Nick Swisher still available. Beane had Swisher as his #1 prospect. Beane was ecstatic when the Mets passed on Swisher and selected Edcanes favortie...Scott Kazmir. Beane is vehemently against the drafting of high school pitchers. I strongly recommend Moneyball to any true baseball fan. Also, it would behoove the many dolts who post on this board to pick up a copy and learn something for a change. It's a must read for Das Texan, Fish Fillet and the other Marlin "realists." :thumbup

  5. Ifthe Marlins don't have enough sense to help him now, some other team will. God, we are stupid and short-sighted. Umm, it's seems as if that is exactly what we are doing. Stratton could have been picked up by any team as he was a free agent. The marlins took a chance and are hoping to catch lightening in a bottle. Wasn't it your Mets who gave up on Stratton?
  6. For all you amateur reporters & rocket scientists I seem to recall Luis getting hit by a pitch on the shin Thursday night. It was a pretty hard pitch and Luis took a while to shake it off. He stayed in the game, but I'm sure that is why he had the night off yesterday. Why don't you put that in your pipe and smoke it. :w00t
  7. i dunno but i wouldnt mind Kris Benson on the team a former Cane,,,, YO - me thinkz Benson wen ta Clemson - Me no thinkz he wuz a Canez Boy!!! :w00t
  8. how the heck did you guys get Wilson Valdez into your org? minor league free agent? C'mon Ranchod - you should know better. Fred Ferriera that's how.
  9. Can anyone confirm the Nunez deal as per xdannyx25? xdannyx25 posted that Nunez had been traded for Mike Fontenot. The only Fontenot I know of - is a fine 2B prospect in the Orioles system. Anyone?
  10. Can anyone confirm the Fontenot deal? He could be a future replacement for Castillo. I believe he was highly regarded coming out of college (LSU?). Moving "Always Injured Abe" for a solid 2B prospect would be another feather in Beinfest's cap.
  11. Kudos to Beinfest and staff for giving Cabrera a chance. They could have easily stayed with Banks/Hollandsworth and waited for a return on their investment. They were willing to admit a mistake and have hopefully found a way to rectify it. I for one, can't wait to see Cabs this weekend. Let's hope DW has found some competition for Rookie of the Year!
  12. Welcome back. Looking forward to some of your insightful comments.
  13. Might make sense for them to have interest in Holly...he had a great series in SD, he's from Cali and his bro-in-law Herges is on the Padres. Go Beinfest. Get this deal done.
  14. Wow, if true - this is exciting news. A solid bat in left along with the return of Beckett would go a long way to a wild card run. Great info Edcanes. Hope it happens!
  15. Gary Sheffield - hands down. KB was the best pitcher ever to wear the Teal.
  16. Alou wasn't classy about not getting MVP, Livan deserved it, he came from Minors not long before and pitched gems in post season like he was a 10 year vet. Alou didn't do anything THAT big. Check the stats pal - Livan deserved the MVP for the LCS but not the WS - He had two wins but posted a 5.27 ERA with 10 walks in 13 innings. Moises batted .321 with 3 hr's, 9 rbi's and .714 slugging %. Alouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!
  17. (Alou=classless bully) (Alou=Marlin great) - should have been World Series MVP.
  18. unless Fred Ferreira is with the Fish(is he? I have no clue what happened to FF) then this statement is not accurate. He drafted/signed most of the Spos talented players back in the 90's...Loria and co really did not bring in anyone aside from Tatis :banghead ..the only real good move they made that is showing now was signing Vidro to a LTC... This statement is indeed accuarte. Fred Ferreira is most definately with the Marlins. Judging by the most recent draft - Fred hasn't missed a beat!
  19. I don't think he gets called-up during this season at all. Whether it's as a 3B or a LF. At the very least he will be a September call-up. If Hollandsworth continues to falter and Banks doesn't get the job done - look for him to get the call around the All-Star break.
  20. Who's planning on attending the game tonight? I'm thinking of heading down. Any idea of the weather forecast? :mischief2
  21. Wait what happened to doublesworth? He's been spending too much time around Pat Burrell.
