  1. If Abe can't be traded...he should be kept. There is no way Banks should make the team over Abe.
  2. One thing that concerned me was the Sox made plenty of contact, even if it was mostly fouls... Is this a legit concern of yours? Penny gave up too many foul balls? Are you serious? This would get my award for most ridiculous post of the year if true... :mischief2
  3. I wouldn't beat up the Marlins too much for that trade. They got two arms that may still develop into useful major league pitchers in exchange for a pitcher, Redman, that we may have non-tendered anyway. The real problem was the overreaction by some of the fans who thought Neu was going to be the next big thing for no other reason than he was now a Marlin. Excellent post. Very well said. :notworthy
  4. I guess all you nay-sayers are forgetten the player-to-be-named later in the Redman deal. I believe he is a young lefty reliever - Billy Murphy (?) who is currently one of the Marlins top prospects. I think it is way to premature to evaluate the Redman deal - who by the way has sucked this spring for Oakland. Can someone help me out with some info on Murphy? Ramp? Thanks. :thumbdown
  5. If any of you think our current bullpen corps is up to the job I suggest you read the last few pages of today's game thread (thanks Admin). Pathetic, disgusting, absolutely a waste of an afternoon effort by the rest of the team. If I were Jack I'd be up one side of these guys...oh nevermind you'll get the idea when you read the thread. Beinfest better be planning something because Carl Pavano's incredible outing today was completely wasted when our bullpen pitched like a bunch of little leaguers. No insult meant to little leaguers, they could have done a better job than our guys today. How the heck did we not get Juan Cruz when the Braves gave up so little to get him? Why are other teams dealing for bullpen help and we're sitting on our hands? Is this what we have to look forward to in 2004? Grrrrrrrrrrr Relax...I think you are over-reacting a bit. Remember in a regular season game you would have seen Fox and Benetiz. Granted the other four in the bullpen definately need some work. I'm sure Beinfest and Hill are monitoring roster cut-downs and other teams' needs. If a deal can be made...I sure the will make it. BTW - why is Juan Cruz all of sudden the second coming of Goose Gossage? Last time I checked he sucked for the Cubs and they just dealt him for marginal players to a team that already has Antonia Alfonseca and Armando Almanza in their bullpen. I don't necessarily think Cruz is the answer. :hat :hat :hat
  6. What about an IPO? Could Loria take the team public and raise money through selling shares? Something similiar to the Celtics. Just a suggestion...not sure how realistic this could be. :mischief2
  7. Sounds like good news. Cape, how does this impact the financial equation? :notworthy
  8. :smlove
  9. I agree...doesn't sound like an injury at all.
  10. If he is having arm troubles that shows you the danger of signing pitchers straight out of High School. Yeah, I wish we would could have chosen Josh Hamilton over that "high school" kid we drafted out of Texas. What was his name? :mischief2
  11. Where are all his fan club members? Don't you have any answers?
  12. I was listening to the game but then I somehow lost reception. out of curiousity did Nunez start in CF today? Thanks. man, Marlins2003 you are really fixated with Nunez. :mischief2 Just so you know, I polled five beat reporters on Nunez, three responded. Each said McKeon was asked yesterday after the game why Nunez didn't play and McKeon's answer was "Williams played today" and he wouldn't say when Nunez would play again when queried. While none of them said they knew for a fact Nunez was in McKeon's doghouse, all said they were surprised he wasn't at least being showcased (and two said they expect he's being traded) to enhance his value. Maybe I spent too many years in newspapers but I think there's a story there and so I'm interested. It's not an obsession with Nunez as much as it's whether there's a story there or not. It could be any player in a similar situation. What we get, unless you ask questions is this homogenized coverage that is almost by definition incomplete. Just giving you a hard time... I respect your opinions and appreciate the insight you bring to this board. Thanks...

Guys, My on-line draft is taking place this week. Can anyone recommend some sleeper or rookie picks for me? Any thoughts on Bobby Crosby? Thanks! :notworthy
  20. Malman, good facts, but you posted Office Depot and we are talking about Home Depot (orange logo, homer is the mascot, plywood, tools, etc.) Your right - damn, I need to lay off the wacky tobaccy. :hat
  21. Home Depot bought the naming rights to the MLS LA Galaxy's new soccer stadium, could baseball be next? Home Depot is based out of Atlanta, and does big business in SoFla esp. around hurricane season. Cape, I believe Office Depot corporate is up in Delray Beach (see below). I know the owner of the Falcons - Arthur Blank is/was the President/CEO. In any case, their proximity to South Florida could make this more of a reality. Hopefully it can result in a more centrally located site. :notworthy About Office Depot With annual sales of more than $12 billion, no one sells more office supplies to more customers in more countries than Office Depot. Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Delray Beach, FL, the company conducts business in 23 countries and employs nearly 50,000 people worldwide. Office Depot is a leader in every distribution channel ? from retail stores and contract delivery to catalogs and e-commerce. The company is the world?s number two online retailer ? generating $2.6B in sales for FY?03. In North America, Office Depot has 900 retail stores in addition to a national business-to-business delivery network supported by 22 delivery centers, more than 60 local sales offices and 13 regional call centers.
  22. Fish Fillet Field at the Home Depot Dome!!! I love it!
  23. 5-4 Twins - bottom 6th I'm pretty sure Beckett was the scheduled starter.
  24. I didn't realize Randy Myers had made a comeback and is starting for the Phillies. HA!
