Keep Abraham Nunez or Trade Him?

Featured Replies

With Juan Pierre playing everygame in the outfield...Nunez will probably not see too much action...

Their have been rumors about trading him for some help in the bullpen...

I personally would keep him...is always to have a good backup outfielder...

if lets say someone in the infield would get hurt, you can move Conine or Migue to the infield and make room for Nunez....This is just a thought...

What do you guys think...

Keep him or Trade him...

I say keep him...

Jack said (basically" "Nunez needs to play".

He will not play (enough) as a Marlin, so I see him being moved for a middle reliever.

Jack wants a vet as backup, not a rook.

It's hard to believe the Marlins are going to keep Banks and dump Nunez when they have no one in the system that could replace Pierre if needed, certainly not Gerald "this year, God willing, I'll hit over the Mendoza line" Williams.

I hate to say it but Banks has to be the odd man out. I hope the Fish can find him a new home for 2004.

If you trade Nunez, there are some alternatives for backup OF (mainly, a CF). There are guys in the farm system we could promote and a guy I think played CF we recently released - Armando Rios. Christenson too could be the guy. But I dont think the team will demote Nunez because he will be gone off the waiver wire. I would like to see us deal him if we arent going to play him.

I say trade him simply because he has to be on the 25 man roster. The roster spot simply would be better utilized with a pitcher. However, I'm not advocating giving him away, we need to get quality in return...

First choice would be to keep him and trade Harris or Banks.

I would only trade him if we can get a strong middle reliever. Abraham has done very well of late....so we should get a major league ready reliever for him.

We didn't even get a major-league ready reliever for Mark Redman, one of the more impressive pitchers last year. And you think we'll get one for a guy that has a .118 career ML average?

I agree, I think you wont get jack for trading Nunez, Jack. I dont think it makes sense to trade a guy just to trade a guy. Nunez has talent. If he plays, he could produce. That is what is tantalizing to some teams.

However, I dont think there is no hope of getting anything in return for Nunez. Certain things can be overvalued, and the power Nunez has shown could be greatly overvalued by some sucker team with a need (Dodgers?). I dont expect much, but who knows.

Top of the first, Monday's game against the Dodgers, 6th HR of the spring.

One things for sure, he will not go quietly...nothing like making it difficult for the FO.

Yea, he's tied with Castro for the TEAM lead in HR this Spring. The problem is that he would not be a starter on this team. Can he perform off the Bench? I just don't see how we have room for him here, I think the best we can hope for is that this spring raises his stock value and we can trade him for some much needed middle relif.

If Abe can't be traded...he should be kept.

There is no way Banks should make the team over Abe.

The thing is that Nunez has never really gotten a shot in the majors. We have no idea how he will do off the bench in the regular season against good pitching. While Banks may not be the greatest, at least WE KNOW what we are getting from hima nd maybe with last year under his belt he can perform better in his role off the bench.

A month ago I would have agreed with you, in fact a month ago I would have said "trade his lazy, streak-hitting butt outta here ASAP" but I admit it, he's won me over.

As for your comment that we don;t know what he can do off the bench, isnt that what he's doing in spring training? Plays one day, doesn't play for a few days, comes in late, doesn't play for a few days, starts another day, etc.? If this spring isn't a test of his "off the bench" skills I don't know what is.

I love Brian Banks and his contributions last season, but if the choice were mine (maybe I should stay home this afternoon and wait for Admin Beinfest to call) I have to say Abraham Nunez has made himself too valuable to trade.

Well ST is a completely diffrent animal, I would say it is nothing like playing off the bench during a regular season. For starters he probably wont get many starts for the entire season (assuming everyone stays healthy). Also when he does come in to pinch hit or as part of a double switch he will not be facing these same minor leagure scrubs. So he would he need to get used to coming in late against good pitching and still be able to perform. We just don't know, I am not a big Banks fan either but at least he has done it before. Now I am all for giving Nunez a shot, but my point was that if this Spring has rasied his value enough that we could possibly get a descent trade, then I would go for it.

"Well ST is a completely diffrent animal, I would say it is nothing like playing off the bench during a regular season...."

Nothing?

"Well ST is a completely diffrent animal, I would say it is nothing like playing off the bench during a regular season...."

Nothing? Well because of the atmosphere in ST, it's just totally diffrent from the regular season. I wouldn't use his ST performance as an indicator of how he will perform off the bench for us during the regular season. But I also know that is ALL we have to go on. The decision could go either way and I personally wouldn't care either way, but if he does make the team I wish him great success, since it will only help our team.

Just a thought...

Conine at first base, Nunez in right, Cabrera in left for the opener...

Choi looks like $hit thus far, and I don't think a two or three game tryout for Nunez to either showcase himself for other teams or play himself into the lineup is out of the realm of possibility, I mean he has been more consistent than some of our starters this spring...
