March 26, 200422 yr Per USAtoday.com, OF Armando Rios has been released, P Mike Neu sent to AAA, and P's Scott Sanders and Toby Borland, IF Jason Wood and C Ryan Jorgensen sent to minor league camp.
March 26, 200422 yr Nothing shocking there. I expected Neu to make the club initially, but it looks like he has some fine tuning to do. I hope he gets it together.
March 26, 200422 yr would've been nice if we could at least have gotten a major-league-ready reliever in return for Mark Redman. i mean i realize dumping the salary was the whole point, but you're still making a trade... oh well... I have a feeling we'll see almost all of these relievers at some time during the season.

March 26, 200422 yr We should have gotten more in return for Redmond and Encarncion. Neu doesn't impress me. Maybe this opens the door for Wayne.
March 26, 200422 yr Yeah, We should've gotten something more than Neu who was drafted as a Rule 5 pick by the A's. Redman wasnt breaking the bank either with what he was making. I think we couldve had Redman start till AJ got better which looks like its going to be half a season and then trade him when we can fetch the most for him - at the MLB trading deadline.
March 26, 200422 yr Guys, the FO and most of the people here found Neu to be major league ready. The stuff is there, but the control isn't, which you can also tell from his WHIP and walk/k ratio from last season. This most likely opens the door for Blaine Neal, because it was thought that Neu would set up, and Neal is, in fact, a set up pitcher. Wayne will probably make the team as well, and the way he's performed this ST it's with good reason.
March 26, 200422 yr I never had much faith in Neu to begin with. I really thought we should have tried to sign another reliever. We never did.
March 26, 200422 yr so much for all you hurricane homers who said neu was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
March 26, 200422 yr so much for all you hurricane homers who said neu was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Yeah how many times did Wade Boggs fail to make a club before he hit the show again?
March 26, 200422 yr When we first traded for Neu I had alot of expectations for him because of the way all the media and here were talking about him so its very intresting to see him not make the club.

March 26, 200422 yr so much for all you hurricane homers who said neu was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Yeah how many times did Wade Boggs fail to make a club before he hit the show again? stop comparing apples to oranges. neu isnt as good as he was hyped. fact.
March 26, 200422 yr How about you give him a chance? How many regular season pitches has the kid thrown as a Marlin? Question

March 26, 200422 yr How about you give him a chance? How many regular season pitches has the kid thrown as a Marlin? Question Not even good enough to make it through spring training.Face it people hype him because he was former Cane.I remember making comment that Fish should gotten more but some people were in love with Neu because what he did while in UM.
March 26, 200422 yr How about you give him a chance? How many regular season pitches has the kid thrown as a Marlin? Question none. and it wont be any for the forseeable future.
March 26, 200422 yr i didn't see where Neu was ever hyped in the first place, outside of this board. sure there was an article or two about him, that's to be expected of a kid who went to college here. the point is he's nothing to hype in the first place. if he surprises this year, fantastic. but for a 14 game winner, we could and should have gotten at least someone who has been a decent MAJOR LEAGUE RELIEVER. Not someone we HOPE can be. Beinfest has made many wise moves in the past. This one wasn't one of them.
March 26, 200422 yr Redman ST ERA > 9 And he ran outta gas late last year. Let's not glorify the guy - he's just a lefty soft-tosser. Oliver > Redman

In 48 hours he was getting nothing for him. Beinfest essentially used the money he saved to acquire Oliver and Cordero, a deal I'd do any day. Neu was window-dressing. I thought from his first game (against UM) he looked like crap so this comes as no surprise.
