Marlins make more cuts...

Featured Replies

I'm really worried about our bullpen.

And there was a LOT of talent available at good prices on Free agency. Now we will need to give up good talent to get anything decent in return :thumbdown

Redman ST ERA > 9

And he ran outta gas late last year.

Let's not glorify the guy - he's just a lefty soft-tosser.

Oliver > Redman

thats a stretch. A big stretch. Redman may be struggling in spring training but he will have a solid season like he always does. Redman was our best pitcher for most of the season last year, how soon people forget.

I guess all you nay-sayers are forgetten the player-to-be-named later in the Redman deal. I believe he is a young lefty reliever - Billy Murphy (?) who is currently one of the Marlins top prospects.

I think it is way to premature to evaluate the Redman deal - who by the way has sucked this spring for Oakland.

Can someone help me out with some info on Murphy? Ramp? Thanks.

redman may not have "broke the bank" to keep him

but the team feels that they can get similiar production out of Oliver who will make $700,000 this year as opposed to Redman who will make $3.5 million

another thing about Neu, rosenthal has been working extensively with Neu on overhauling his mechanics

last week, I was watching wayne and neu working after the game and Neu was bouncing pitches 10 feet in front of the plate

short term, the guy is going to have issues but in the long term it will make him a better pitcher

give it time, he will be a very effective middle reliever

as for Bill Murphy, he was actually the real target of the deal with the A's.

the only thing that bothers me about Murphy right now is that he seems to have become buddies with Randall Messenger who might not be the best person for him to hang out with.

Wow....surprising the " the next big thing" the former hurricane Mike Neu is not on the roster.

We gave this guy so much hype saying that this guy was gonna make the team and make awesome stats and everything....he is with Alberquerque now.

So we pretty much gave up redman for nothing.

We should have gotten a better reliever....more with the experience.

great trade by the marlins :confused

I wouldn't beat up the Marlins too much for that trade. They got two arms that may still develop into useful major league pitchers in exchange for a pitcher, Redman, that we may have non-tendered anyway.

The real problem was the overreaction by some of the fans who thought Neu was going to be the next big thing for no other reason than he was now a Marlin.

Excellent post. Very well said.

When the Marlins decided they couldnt afford going to arbitration with 14 game winner Mark Redman, they traded him to the A;s for Murphy and righty Mike Neu. While Neu has the best changeup in the system and could help Fla sooner, it's Murphy who's the prize of the deal. He went to Cal State Northridge as an OF/P before moving to the mound full-time as a sophomore. He quickly established himseld as one of Oakland's top pitching prospects, tossing a no hitter in low Class A and reaching Double A 89-91 mph fastball and his deceptive delivery. He also throws a curveball, which can be a plus pitch at times, and a changeup. Murphy came down with a dead arm in 2002 and wore down again at the end of last season. In addition to building up arm strength, he also must improve his command and pitch sequencing. If he can do that, he projects as a No 3 starter in the majors. Murphy needs another half season at Double A and could be ready for the big leagues in 2005

Im telling you guys, Rosenthal is working to overhaul Neu's mechanics

he has to go down to the minors to get used to the change

the kid is what, 25 years old, he will be back in a few months and he'll be huge
