March 6, 200422 yr Well we all know that the bullpen is a big question mark coming into this season, and we really don't know what the bullpen will look like come opening day. The only guys pretty much guaranteed to be in the bullpen on opening day: Benitez and Fox. and I think Nate Bump will be there unless he really has a terrible spring. So that leaves 3 spots up for grabs. (I'm assuming that Jack uses a 6-man bullpen like last year.) Here I'll list the guys fighting for these spots, and post there stats so far. Franklyn Gracesqui- 1 IP 0 hits 0 ER 0 K 0 BB Blaine Neal- Mike Neu- Tommy Phelps- 1 IP 4 hits 2 ER 1 K 0 BB Michael Tejera- 2 IP 3 hits 1 ER 2K 0 BB Justin Wayne- Toby Borland- Matt Perisho- 2-1/3 IP 2 hits 0 ER 0 K 0 BB Mike Nannini- 2 IP 1 hit 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Scott Sanders- 2 IP 2 hits 0 ER 3 K 0 BB Here we can talk about each of these guys performances and I'll update the thread after every game.
March 6, 200422 yr Phelps is a guy we need to show up. Tejera is probably going to be our resident 'lefty', but McKeon does not necessarily (and rightly, in my opinion) subscribe to the theory that you have to have a lefty to get out lefty hitters. This and the bench are definetly the places where the auditions are happening.
March 6, 200422 yr Nannini was very impressive today against the Cardinals. Struck Pujols out looking with a breaking ball that just caught the corner. Very nice break and an exploding fast ball to go with it. :thumbup Tejera just about blew the game by allowing three hard hit singles in a row. :thumbdown Sanders looked pretty good to close out the game.
March 6, 200422 yr Tomorrow Neu, Borland and Perisho will pitch after Pavano. very nice.....should be a good one! :cheers
March 7, 200422 yr One of the players we should keep is Scott Sanders. We need another lefty in the bullpen with Almanza gone and he has done very good on all the spring training seasons he has been to with us.

March 7, 200422 yr Joe Frisaro / MLB.com Benitez's first appearance: Closer Armando Benitez will appear in an exhibition game for the first time this spring on Monday, when the Marlins face the Expos in Jupiter. Josh Beckett will start the game. Benitez, signed a free agent, has been easing back into condition. Unlike a number of Marlins who had an active off-season, Benitez didn't throw much the past few months. He has been going through his regular bullpen sessions. The reason Benitez hasn't pitched yet is because, unlike the rest of the team, he showed up to Spring Training out of shape. I watched him today in a bullpen session pitching next to Beckett. He looked very heavy, i.e overweight. He had a very quick delivery and had good velocity on his fastball. His session didn't last very long.

March 7, 200422 yr well if Nannini can do what he did in the minors for the Fish it would be awesome. He had 154 innings and 158 ks last season wit a 3.62 era. Hopefully he can keep it up for the fish
March 8, 200422 yr Author *Update* Franklyn Gracesqui- 1 IP 0 hits 0 ER 0 K 0 BB Blaine Neal- Mike Neu- 1 IP 0 hits 0 ER 0 K 1 BB Tommy Phelps- 1 IP 4 hits 2 ER 1 K 0 BB Michael Tejera- 2 IP 3 hits 1 ER 2K 0 BB Justin Wayne- Toby Borland- 1 IP 2 hits 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Matt Perisho- 3-1/3 IP 4 hits 1 ER 1 K 0 BB Mike Nannini- 2 IP 1 hit 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Scott Sanders- 2 IP 2 hits 0 ER 2 K 0 BB Good job by Neu in his inning today Perisho gave up a run. I'm not saying this because he gave up a run, but I'm not sure if he is the answer for the lefty in the bullpen. I wanna see more of this Gracesqui guy though, a good spring from him and we could see him on the opening day roster. Tommy Phelps, Franklyn Gracesqui, and Blaine Neal will pitch tomorrow. Neal will be making his first appearance. Hopefully Phelps can bounce back from a rough start to his spring. I think he will, he was a savior for us last year when we had injury problems and I'm rooting for him to make the team. Also, I'm hoping Gracesqui will continue to impress. Of course we'll get our first look at Armando Benitez also. A lot of stuff to watch for, in tomorrow's game.
March 8, 200422 yr if what you are saying about benitez being out of shape is true, that really bothersme. we went out on a limb for this guy and he comes to spring training out of shape? your an athlete. i dont care if your a pitcher, you have a simple job to do in the offseason.... STAY ATHLETIC, this guys shown hes got a lot of ability, but now i just hope he has the initiative to go along with it.
March 8, 200422 yr I was disappointed to see that he didn't show up in shape. I mean look at all the work just about everyone else on the team did in the offseason....while he sat on his fat ...ss. Good thing that Urbina still hasn't signed. We might just need him come May 1.
March 8, 200422 yr Author *Update* Franklyn Gracesqui- 2 IP 0 hits 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Blaine Neal- 1 IP 0 hits 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Mike Neu- 1 IP 0 hits 0 ER 0 K 1 BB Tommy Phelps- 2 IP 5 hits 2 ER 1 K 0 BB Michael Tejera- 2 IP 3 hits 1 ER 2K 0 BB Justin Wayne- Toby Borland- 1 IP 2 hits 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Matt Perisho- 3-1/3 IP 4 hits 1 ER 1 K 0 BB Mike Nannini- 2 IP 1 hit 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Scott Sanders- 2 IP 2 hits 0 ER 2 K 0 BB Gracesqui had another solid inning, I'm pulling for this guy. Phelps rebounded nicely, and Neal made a strong debut. All very good to see we're going to need these guys to step up.
March 8, 200422 yr Neu is overrated and walks too many guys. I think it will be, Bump, Benitez, Gracequi, Phelps, Tejera, and Neal (who is out of options).
March 8, 200422 yr Nannini seems like he would be a decent #5 starter if we ever traded someone. Nannini and Allison are the future.
March 9, 200422 yr Nannini seems like he would be a decent #5 starter if we ever traded someone. Nannini and Allison are the future. damn right don't forget Scott Olsen, though
March 9, 200422 yr Author *Update* Franklyn Gracesqui- 2 IP 0 hits 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Blaine Neal- 1 IP 0 hits 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Mike Neu- 1 IP 0 hits 0 ER 0 K 1 BB Tommy Phelps- 2 IP 5 hits 2 ER 1 K 0 BB Michael Tejera- 3 IP 3 hits 1 ER 2K 1 BB Justin Wayne- 1 IP 0 hits 0 ER 0 K 0 BB Toby Borland- 1 IP 2 hits 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Matt Perisho- 4-1/3 IP 4 hits 1 ER 3 K 0 BB Mike Nannini- 2 IP 1 hit 0 ER 1 K 0 BB Scott Sanders- 2 IP 2 hits 0 ER 2 K 0 BB Solid performance by Perisho, Wayne, and Tejera. I've been pleasantly surprised by the players on this list, it looks like Jack's gonna have a tough decision come opening day. Bump's performance today worries me a couple more outings like that and his job might be in jeopardy. Hopefully he'll come back strong though.
March 10, 200422 yr Phelps has gotten hit alot Thats good to see Tejerable doing good. We need a left arm/long reliever down in the pen. Justin Wayne also is doing awesome, i guess working on his mechanics helped him out.
