CapeFish
Gracesqui did not look impressive yesterday here in Fort Myers. Got neverous and loaded the bases, got out of it, but lost the game by giving up a run to the Twins.
CapeFish
When the cut date comes, the Marlins should be looking to pick up some arms.
farmer_fran
*UPDATE* Blaine Neal- 6 IP 6 hits 1 ER 6 K 0 BB Mike Neu- 5 IP 3 hits 0 ER 3 K 3 BB Tommy Phelps- 7 IP 8 hits 3 ER 6 K 1 BB Michael Tejera- 8 IP 6 hits 1 ER 3 K 1 BB Justin Wayne- 5 IP 3 hits 0 ER 3 K 1 BB Toby Borland- 4 IP 9 hits 4 ER 2 K 1 BB Matt Perisho- 8-2/3 IP 6 hits 1 ER 6 K 3 BB Scott Sanders- 4 IP 5 hits 2 ER 6 K 0 BB Perisho had another solid performance. I really didn't think he'd have a shot at the team, but if he keeps on pitching like he is, it's going to be hard for Jack to kep him off the team. CapeFish
Perisho was impressive here in Fort Myers. He pitched part of an inning I believe, but got out of the inning in a bind.

Bump did not look good though. Fox looked strong though.

Neu... :banghead How the hell do you give up 9 hits in 2 innings? Borland has been pretty terrible all spring.
PBMarlin
It was something to watch. Neu would get ahead of the hitter 0-2, and then throw a fast ball right down the middle of the plate...when he should have been wasting a pitch. I'm afraid he didn't help himself today. Jack commented that the bullpen will sort itself out......by having guys pitch themselves off the team. Both Neu and Borland did that today. While on the other hand, Wayne looked quite good....pitched out of a jam, a couple Ks...not bad.
Admin
The Wayne support is picking up around here finally.
Marlins2003
It was painful watching Neu immobilize himself today. I felt bad for the kid. Spring training is a trial by fire and today he got burned. Bigtime.
farmer_fran
The Wayne support is picking up around here finally. He's done well this spring. Phelps, Tejera and Wayne all have had pretty good springs. (I know Phelps had one bad game right at the beginning but has looked strong ever since.) The problem with these three guys though is they are all long relievers, and they aren't all going to make the team, I think there's a good chance that 2 of them makes the team, but not all 3, and I think from now on it's going to be these 3 guys battling it out for the long reliever role. Middle relief is not looking too good at this point though. Looks like Blaine Neal is going to get a real good opportunity at establishing himself as a major league reliever, and hopefully he will fare better than he did last year. jonnylons
I am glad to see Wayne resurrect his career. I am not happy about the Neu situation - because we dealt Redman for him. I think he will come around, but he may have to get it done down in AAA to start the season. Neal seems to be ready too. Our bullpen seems to be just as much of a question mark as it was at this point last year. And I didnt think that would be the case.

Good to see Benitez have an easy inning.

Das Texan
Neu has looked like crap from what I understand. So much for you Hurricane homers saying how great he was. Perisho has had the better spring than Tejera. Still this team needs another lefty in the pen. I dont think you should enter hte year wiht both Perisho and Tejera on teh roster. They are too similar, if I recall correctly. I would love for some power lefty to emerge. Wayne has made the team. Neal and/or Sanders might still make the team. That I think might be your bullpen. The Marlins need a couple people to step up. To sum it up.... Benetiz Fox Wayne Perisho/Tejera Neal/Sanders One more pitcher MUST step up or hte Marlins need to find antoher arm somewhere. Then you are left with figuring out who if Jack goes with 11 or 12 in the staff. Not sure what he has stated.
farmer_fran
*UPDATE* Blaine Neal- 8 IP 10 hits 3 ER 6 K 0 BB Mike Neu- 7 IP 12 hits 5 ER 6 K 3 BB Tommy Phelps- 11 IP 10 hits 4 ER 8 K 5 BB Michael Tejera- 10 IP 10 hits 3 ER 4 K 1 BB Justin Wayne- 9 IP 5 hits 0 ER 5 K 3 BB Matt Perisho- 10-2/3 IP 7 hits 1 ER 7 K 3 BB Scott Sanders- 5 IP 6 hits 2 ER 6 K 0 BB Nate Bump- 10 IP 12 hits 6 ER 7 K 2 BB Phelps helped his cause out I think today, I'd like to see that walk total down though. Perisho continues to impress. Blaine Neal had his worst outing of the spring but I still think he'll make the team. Things are getting very interesting. Stag5
Neals box score looks horrible but one single was a broken bat by Renteria and another was an infield hit. He threw strikes the only real hit was a ball over the 1B bag that (Derrek Lee made a great play on)ooops...Wil Cordero just missed. Neal has yet to walk a runner this spring. Phelps looked okay through three innings. He definitly did not have the stamina for four so I hate to over emphasize his 4 walks. Phelps didn't hurt his chances by any means. Perisho made it look easy. He has been great this spring. I keep looking at his lifetime stats and wonder of this is just a spring wonder that will explode mid-April. Borland has had a bad spring, walked the lead off runner in the 9th and he ended up scoring. Borland is GONE. Benitez - Closer Fox - Setup Tejera - LH Specialist - Has earned his spot. Neal - Solid Spring and out of options Perisho - Has beat out everyone else. Phelps/Wayne/Neu/SandersBump? Would Jack take three lefties? If Justin Wayne does not explode the rest of this spring will Jack trust him in the BP in April? Neu I think earned a spot in AAA and needs to throw strikes. Sanders has pitched well....but I can't see him leaping over Phelps or Wayne. Nate Bump has shown the same inconsistency he showed last season. I think Jack wants him challenged in AAA...get him hungry to return to Florida.
farmer_fran
I took Borland off the list and added Nate Bump because Bump is far from safe as far as making the team. I really thought he'd come in and do well enough to make the team, but he obviously needs to show more consistency and I think he could be in trouble. farmer_fran
*UPDATE* Blaine Neal- 8-1/3 IP 11 hits 4 ER 6 K 0 BB Tommy Phelps- 11 IP 10 hits 4 ER 8 K 5 BB Michael Tejera- 10-2/3 IP 13 hits 7 ER 4 K 2 BB Justin Wayne- 10 IP 5 hits 0 ER 5 K 3 BB Matt Perisho- 10-2/3 IP 8 hits 2 ER 7 K 3 BB Nate Bump- 11 IP 14 hits 6 ER 7 K 2 BB Well things are getting interesting now. we're down to 6 guys battling for 4 spots. Tejera may have just lost his spot on the team with today's performance. I think it's obvious we need some serious help in the bullpen. These are the 4 guys I think will make the team come opening day. Neal Phelps Wayne Perisho It's obvious that this will not be good enough and Beinfest better start dealing.
Stag5
Today's outing by Tejera will be chalked up as a freebie. Hey, he is not going to be our closer so I don't think we need to overreact. We know what Tejera is and that is probably good enough to be a middle/long reliever in MLB. Closer: Benitez Setup: Fox # 2 Setup: ??? LH Specialist: ??? Long Relief: Michael Tejera Long Relief: Justin Wayne Tejera and Wayne are worthy of a long relief position on this team. Our troubles will be someone to take the mound when Fox cannot and someone that can get the tough lefty out pre 8th inning. Nate Bump, Blaine Neal, Tommy Phelps, Matt Perisho...this is not the answer. Is Dave Veres - Past three seasons the batting average for left handed hitters against him has been .204 and last season .174. The past three seasons he has pitched 18.2 innings vs. the Braves and Phillies combined and given up just 2 earned runs. He was released and there for the taking. Mephisto
Then i think the marlins should sign Vares and send Tejera down. I rather have Phelps doing long relief.
Das Texan
what we know about tejera is that he is mediocore at best. veres could be interesting.... but there is a reason he was cut. he has lost A LOT in the last couple years.
Stag5
WHIP - Hits + Walks / Innings Pitched PAST 10 Games / Spring Season Fox 0.00 - 0.90 Benitez 0.46 - 1.07 Perisho 0.75 - 0.91 Wayne 0.83 - 0.81 These four guys have done well all spring and have been as good or better the previous ten games. Phelps 1.16 - 1.36 Phelps has improved and he had just one bad inning last game (inning # 4) so that may not count against him. His next outing or so will be huge. Neal 1.61 - 1.32 He has faded some. Bump 1.83 - 1.58 Tejera 3.00 - 1.40 Their spring has been bad and as you can see they are getting worse.
