*Sean Bergman (9IP, 7H, 2ER, 2BB ,3K) pitched a complete game 7-hitter to get the Topes their 6th victory in 7 games...they are now 3.5 in back of first. Bergman's not exactly a prospect at 32, hes jsut there to eat some innings.

*RF Stratton went 2-4 and hit his 29th homer...he leads all baseball leagues in HR.

*C Matt Treanor went 2-3 with 2 homers and a walk....he now has 24BB/26K and 7 homers in only 180 AB's. Hes 27 so its possible if Pudge and Redmond are gone next season we will see him on the big club. Willingham is our catcher of the future unless they move him to OF or corner IF.

*SS Wathan got a triple a 2 walks...switch hitter whos also 27...might see some time as a utility player next season.

*CF Abe Nunez is H-O-T. Went 3-4 which puts his OBP at .429

*Seems our AAA affiliate is playing much better overall coming into the ASB.

*Justin Wayne starts tonight after an awesome 10K performance last outing...his value in trade talks with the Mets could solidify with another nice outing.

*We picked up a NDFA named Hawkeye! :lol

*RHP Phil Akens went 7IP allowing 1ER for the win and has pitched well since joining the Hammerheads...(14IP, 9H, 2ER, 2BB, 9K)

*OF Eric Reed continued his hot streak with 2 hits in 4AB's

*Struggling SS Rex Rundgren broke out a slump by going 3-4

*Stokes went 1-5 with no K's

*OF Jeremy Hermida!!! Went 1-1 with 3 walks :thumbup And is showing great plate discipline with 54 walks/60K's. I think this kid has more upside then Cabrera once he gains the power to frive his pitch. Right now those are mostly doubles, but he is seeing the ball well.

*1B Tom Merkle added 2 more hits to raise his average to .316

*RHP Manny Esquivia (7IP, 2H, 2ER, 2BB, 4K, 1HR) pitched near perfect until the one homer. His season stats are solid as well....3.21ERA, 71IP, 59H, 24BB, 60K

alright guys, tell me about startton, ive heard a lot of people say he wont be any good in the bigs, then ive heard a lot of people say he will be a GREAT player, i can never tell who is being sarcastic.....i dont think those kind of power numbers can be over looked.....can this guy make it in the bigs???if so........can he be in teal next year.......can i get some of your opinions on him??

he could hit 30hr with 285k and a .220ba

not being sarcastic

thanks ramp, i feel like somone should be working with him to harness that power..someone should be teaching him to make contact more, so that maybe he can be a .260 .270 hitter, he could be really valuable then..

I had the chance to see him either last year or the year before when he with the Binghamton Mets. He had recently been suspended for causing a brawl against another opponent. Although his power is seemingly impressive, remember AAA has become sort of the "homer haven" of baseball.

Hes still relatively young, and I'm not sure if any amount of work can help his strike zone judgement. If he just keeps swinging as hard as he can at every pitch hes bound to keep nailing homers and striking out 2 times a game. But if Treanor can help him out and he starts to develop some more patience and maintain those numbers....he could be useful :lol

Said at least four times in past five weeks (herein) that we should be investing more time in developing prospects, notably Stratton. Challenged on our "Chat" a forum member, Alburqueque area resident, to take a "Squad" of hitting insructors and a first base coach to Isotopes to work with Stratton. Probably spending more each week sending scouts out to prospect other teams' discards. (Incidentally, forum member said he'd do it!) Stratton has a big-time K problem. "Swinging for the fences." I think Stratton is a potential at first-base.

I wonder if there is a stat somewhere that shows how much teams spend on scouting and developing players...

Also from ***Carolina our AA affiliate***

*Denny Bautista with another great start went 5IP, 2ER, 0HR, 3BB, 5K...Ed do you think its too early for him to get the call in September???

*Left handed side armer Sean Fesh got the save in 2IP 0ER 4K

*SS Josh Wilson walked twice and got a single

*3B Drew Niles and 1B Adrian Gonzalez both stayed hot with each player going 2-4 with a 2B and a BB.

*Padgett coming off his great AS performance got 2 more hits and a walk.

AA is looking very good...might have some solid players coming from there soon.

i saw projections if he was a major leaguer....

his best year:

.217 44hr 285k

how ridiculous is that?

Where did you see those "projections?" And 44 HR makes him "ridiculous?"

a prospect site....

no the 285 strikeouts and the .217avg is ridiculous

Yea...

285 K's is just a little more than I can handle, seeing that Pierre will K about 30-40 times a year...

i dont understand why strattons not gettin help...he can be the next McGwire...anybody projected to hit 44HR's as a rookie has potential that is out of this world, he just need to get his K's down, and its a worthy investment (like you all have been saying) get the kid some help.

Great update. Good to hear about Hermidia. Sounds like the entire organization is doing well - all levels.

I don't consider Stratton a legitimate prospect at this time. Needs a lot more discipline at the plate.

As for Hawkeye, I seem to recall him being Justin Wayne's brother!

how do you know he isnt getting help?

and 44hr as his best year, not as a rookie...

meaning his best k year would be 285..... it could be even higher as a rookie

Everyone knows the kid has enough power to hit the ball about 500 FT., but that's all he swing for. When he starts to learn what's a ball and what's a strike, he'll be one of the best hitters in MLB. I think he's got unlimited potential power wise. If he learned the strike zone, not only would his average go up and the K's go down, but he'd eventually hit more HR's as well.

If its true that he swings for the fences every time, then he needs to cut down his swing more often because the more you try to hit homers the less your going to hit them.

He just tries to force HR's. The ball will be low and away and he'll try to pull it. He needs to learn to go with the ball. If it's outside, hit it the other way. If it's inside, pull it. He just doesn't do that.
