  1. Canes are getting dominated. Guess they won't be ranked next week. I'm watching Wisconsin-Illinois on ESPN. In the last cut scene, did they just show Illini fans doing a Riverdance?!
  2. I think the most likely upset this weekend is Purdue vs. Ohio State. (That's exclusive of South Carolina beating Kentucky.)
  3. This year's Mascot Open commercials suck. And next year they need to include Rocky and Knightro. Miami (4-1) is facing UNC (1-4). They can finally get into the polls with a good showing and a few upsets in the lower half of the Top 25. UCF (3-1) needs to make a statement against East Carolina (2-3). #6 USF (4-0) should not take FAU (3-2) lightly, or they'll find themselves off the polls quicker than they rose to the Top 10. I don't think it's a stretch to imagine, next week, seeing a top-5 USF team face a ranked UCF team.
  4. Awwww.......... (BTW: That's Matt Holliday and his son, Jackson, at Coors Field.)
  5. Alright guys, more pointing and laughing at the Mets, less calling mascots "gay". We should make a mascot thread in the MLB forum.
  6. I have a feeling he'll end up in the AL.
  7. So far, I give TBS an A. They handled the tossing of the Los Angeles-Boston game to TNT excellently and they make it so easy to follow the games. :thumbup They do make it easy to cover games on TNT when TBS games overrun.
  8. Google SeaQuest Marlins and see what comes up :thumbup If only they knew... Doesn't say which episode mentions it though.
  9. That ball might not land for a week, good God. Just Manny being Manny, and I'm sure the networks are THRILLED that all four series are 2-0. Does Anyone know if it will be the first ever time there were 4 sweeps in the 1st round of playoffs? (Should it happen of course) Yup. The closest we've ever come is 1996 and 2006, when we had two sweeps and two 4-game series each, for a total of two games over the minimum. 1996: The NLDS had two sweeps (Atlanta over Dodgers, St. Louis over San Diego) and the ALDS had two 4-game series (Baltimore over Cleveland, Yankees over Texas). 2006: The NLDS had a sweep (Mets over Dodgers) and a 4-game (St. Louis over San Diego) and the ALDS had a sweep (Oakland over Minnesota) and a 4-game (Detroit over the Yankees). This isn't the first time all four series have gone up 2-0 at the same time though. It happened in 1995. That year ended with the Mariners coming back from 0-2 to win in 5 over the Yankees, the Indians sweeping the Red Sox, the Reds sweeping the Dodgers, and the Braves dropping Game 3 to the Rockies before slamming the door in 4. That's three over the minimum. EDIT: Actually I just looked and 1981's special Divisional Playoffs all went 2-0, but three of the series went to 5 games (Dodgers over Houston, Montreal over Philly, Yankees over Milwaukee) while the other was a sweep (Oakland over Kansas City). Bring the Brooms out? Altogether possible. The Sox have already bested the Angels' best starters. Then again, would the Angels bring in Lackey on three days' rest?
  10. Rockies named Mark Redman the starter for game 4 if there is one. He's actually done well since going to the Rox this year. Hopefully he'll repeat his two winning performances. He pitched 5 shutout innings of relief with 2 hits, 4 K/0 BB on Sept. 12, and on Sept. 29 he gave up just an unearned run on 7 hits with 6 K/1 BB in 5 IP. It's only 5 games and 19 2/3 IP, but he has a 3.20 ERA with the Rockies. If he can repeat it, and go 5 IP with little or no damage, the bullpen will carry it the rest of the way. Of course, that assumes they even need a Game 4.
  11. Actually in 1997 the Marlins were one of the early season favorites for the WS. Oh yeah, forgot, best team money could buy. Eh. Isnt the point of any team to spend money on players and win championships? If you are getting the best possible return with that money, job well done, no? What was the Marlins payroll in 97, $55-60 mil? But you just became a Marlins fan last month after the Red Sox and DRays. 1) I've been here for several months, and have always cheered the Marlins in the NL from the start. I went to two of the 2003 playoff games, and travel down from Orlando at least once a year for a game. 2) I don't see you berating all the Yankee fans on the board. 3) It certainly didn't feel like a good return on the money when H. Wayne Huizenga then sold off virtually the entire roster and we went 54-108 the next year, now did it?.
  12. Why did you pick the only mascot, to my knowledge, that has a wife to call gay? Mr. Met is as straight as they come. He is stupid though. Ace used to have a girlfriend, Diamond (not in photo). I dunno if she flew the coop, or just got pregnant and retired from the mascot business to take care of the eggs. (Hey, it's possible. Mr. Met and Lady Met have three kids.) But enough digression from the Mets' sucktitude.
  13. I haven't been this excited about a playoff game since the 2003 NLDS, Game 4.
  14. man....... i just read that sh*t, its simply amazing, these guys are awosome...... i dunno even know what to say about this, like we really need another reason to root for them..... i mean this team is destned they remind of the 03 fish, u cant f*** with destney...... Redsox vs Rocs in the WS? Rox over Red Sox in 4. Okay, maybe more like 5 or 6.
  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3050020 Padres outfielder Milton Bradley has escaped punishment for his argument with umpire Mike Winters on September 23. MLB VP of On-field Operations, Bob Watson, determined that, since Bradley did not "make physical contact" with Winters, there is no need to punish him as it was already determined that he was provoked. Winters was suspended for the last week of the season and rendered ineligible to participate in this year's playoff umpire crews. Unfortunately, since he sustained an ACL tear while being restrained by his manager, Bradley may miss time next year anyway.

  17. With every game that goes by, the Rox look like a better pick to win it all. I don't see them beating anyone from the AL. Did anybody think the Cardinals would beat anybody from the AL? Did anybody think the Marlins would even make the World Series in '97 or '03? Anything can happen.
  18. Its awesome.. but they should give her a little more than the playoff share.. Well, they probably gave her anything outstanding in his contract as well, which would probably be a few hundred G's. And that really makes me wonder if team employees are vested into life insurance policies...
  19. No... the "gay"est mascot is Screech.
  20. Indians in 4. Yankee pitching is the worst kept secret in baseball. EDIT: They drew Chip Caray, Bob Brenly and Tony Gwynn Ban bet? If Indians win in 3 or 4, Im banned from the site for a week. If the Yankees win 3 or 4, your banned for a week. Nice try. Not a betting man. 1-1 tie. Did anybody else notice that Tony Gwynn sounds a little like Gary Coleman?
  21. And it's over. 10-5 Rox, 2-0 series lead.
  22. There are quite a few empty seats in Philly. 1 down. EDIT: 2 down. Jimmy "MVP" Rollins goes down quickly.
  23. Indians in 4. Yankee pitching is the worst kept secret in baseball. EDIT: They drew Chip Caray, Bob Brenly and Tony Gwynn
  24. More desparation from the Phillies.
  25. http://colorado.rockies.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=col The Colorado Rockies have voted to give the family of Mike Coolbaugh, the Texas Drillers first base coach that was killed by a line drive back in July, a full playoff share. For some perspective on what that might entail, a full share for the Cardinals last year was worth $362,173. Coolbaugh's widow, Amanda Coolbaugh, is expecting their third child this month.
