Found this link though MLB trade rumors

Florida Marlins: There might not be an owner in baseball who adores Bonds more than Jeffrey Loria. He even flew Bonds to New York last year on his private plane, drawing a fine from the commissioner's office. Certainly, Bonds would sell plenty of tickets. But can they convince Bonds that Florida will be a contender?

Chicago and Florida.

Bonds, meanwhile, just may be the apple of Jeffrey Loria's eye. The Florida Marlins owner was fined by the commissioners office last year for flying Bonds to New York in his personal jet. But if the Fish deal Dontrelle Willis in the offseason, it'd be hard to convince Bonds that they're a serious contender.

I would love to see Barry in our uni next year. Yes he has the steroid controversy, but he will but people in the seats. Also, what a great combonation to open the 2008 season. A new stadium, AND Barry Bonds. Those are just my thoughts.

I have a feeling he'll end up in the AL.

I'll believe it when I see it. He's got DH written all over him.

our defense is bad enough. and, we are pretty solid in our corner outfield positions. i think hes going to the angels.

Barry Bonds keep the f*** away from S. Florida . He is such an a**hole

If we don't get Bonds, which we probably won't so it's a moot point, it certainly won't be because our defense is 'bad enough' and we are solid enough in the corner OF positions not to take a top 10 hitter in all of baseball.

We never were fined.

im just saying why i dont want him... i just dont see from even a baseball sense that it would help the team. if we can afford bonds we can afford a cf and a catcher.

Nothing short of Joe DiMaggio and Yogi Berra but put as many fans in the seats as Bonds would.

It will always help any team to have one of the best hitters in baseball in your lineup. A guy with .1045 OPS helps just a little bit, don't you think?

no, i dont think a .1045 OPS helps at all :lol

Yea, for that kind of money we could actually fill our real holes.

Pass.

Of course it would help the team. He would essentially replace Jake and Willy would go to first. Having that OBP infront of Cabs would be scarry. And Cody is the perfect type of player to back up Bonds on his off days.

That being said, he's a jackass, so stay away.

Hypothetically speaking, Bonds could help this team be an offense for the ages. His presense demonstrates to other veterans that the Marlins intend to contend, making some signings easier.

Who cares if he is a jackass? If Hanley was a jackass in public to some people, would you be leading the rally to trade? This isn't the Miss America pageant, you don't get points by your personality/

Seconded.

I would also be really angry to see a cheater like that playing for a team like ours.

Hanley is a cheater of epic proportions.

Hanley isnt hated throughout baseball.

Hanley isnt hated by most of America.

Hanley being on the team wont put second thoughts in Bud Selig's head about helping with a stadium.

I completely disagree with all of the character comments. He may have had a spat with Jeff Kent, but most players have said Bonds is a good guy.

I also have to believe that there is no hitter in the league I'd rather have influencing out young batters. Who better to learn from and/or mimmick offensively than Barry freakin' Bonds? I think he'd be an awesome addition, and like someone said, we have the perfect platoon partner for him in Cody Ross... BUT, I'd rather have the money spent elsewhere.

I could EASILY see Jeffrey Loria pulling a third rabbit out of his hat with a move like this, though.

We never were fined.

a) it wasnt our money as a team, it was lorias money

b) is it possible something happended that nobody on the forum caught or saw?

Hanley is a cheater of epic proportions.

No, he's not.

This isn't a popularity contest. Who cares if people do or don't hate Hanley?

Hanley isnt hated by most of America.

Most of America has no clue who Hanley Ramirez is.

Hanley being on the team wont put second thoughts in Bud Selig's head about helping with a stadium.

Bud Selig is not going to give us a loan and really has very little influence in the scheme of things with us getting a Stadium.

If there was a top 10 hitter or very good starting pitcher who would take a one year contract like Bonds presumably would out there that we could spend the money on then I would agree.

But starting naming some names that can help as much as a Bonds instead of saying something cliche like "we need to fill needs."

The hypocrisy this board will be filled with if/when we sign Bonds will be laughable.

Bonds is public enemy #1 to the commissioners office. Selig has some influence. If Loria, who always cries poor, signs Bonds to a contract in excess of everyone on the team, no only will he look like more of a douche than he usually does, but it will probably completely take MLB's help out of the equation. And its possible the MLB mediators are the only ones really keeping the stadium issue afloat.

And I meant to type Hanley ISNT a cheater of epic proportions.

Bonds is public enemy #1 to the commissioners office.

Bonds was one of the players who helped single handedly save baseball, he is not a the public enemy #1 to the commissioners office despite what you want to believe.

Any publicity is good publicity, and Bonds is more publicity for baseball than any other player.
